INTRODUCTION TO INDUCTION COOKING Your SALTER induction hob is made from smooth, easy to clean microcrystal glass. The heat for cooking comes from a magnetic induction coil which directly heats the base of the pan with great speed and efficiency. Using this system, temperature adjustments can be made very rapidly, giving you precise control over your cooking. To be suitable for induction cooking, pans need to be made from a ferrous metal such as cast iron or steel. Pure copper or pure aluminium pans will not be suitable unless they have a bonded ferrous base. An easy test is to hold a magnet to the base of the pan. If the magnet sticks to the pan, the pan will be suitable for induction cooking. For efficient heat transfer, the base of the pan must also be flat and needs to have a diameter of at least 12cm (24cm max). See table below: SUITABLE COOKWARE Base diameter between 12cm and 24cm Flat bottom Steel or cast iron (with magnetic base) Stainless Steel (with magnetic base) UNSUITABLE Base diameter less than 12cm or greater than 24cm Rounded or uneven bottom Aluminium or copper (non-magnetic base) Ceramic, terracotta or glass (eg pyrex) PREPARATION FOR USE Remove all packaging Position the hob on a firm, flat and level work surface, keeping a clear space all around it for ventilation. Do not place directly below overhanging shelves, curtains or cupboards. Plug into a suitable wall socket ensuring that the mains cord will be kept safely out of the way. The unit will beep and all LEDs will flash once and then enter standby mode, where the display is blank. QUICK START GUIDE Having prepared the product for use (as described above): Place a suitable pan, with its contents, onto the hob surface. Press the power button. The display will show 0. Press the MANUAL (POWER) button once. The program will start to heat the pan. Press the or buttons at any time to increase or decrease the power level as required between 200W and 2200W. Press the power button to switch off the induction at any time. Including when in CHILD LOCK mode. Notes It is normal for the fan to keep running for a few minutes after the induction is turned off. Allow the fan to come to a stop before switching the unit off at the mains. The device will enter standby mode if not operated within 2 minutes. If the pan you have placed on the hob is unsuitable for induction cooking (see table) then the unit will beep repeatedly and will switch to E1 display. Use a suitable pan to continue.

USING THE PROGRAM FUNCTIONS Your SALTER induction hob has 6 built-in program functions, as described in the table below. These programs are designed to make the everyday cooking quicker and easier at the touch of a button. Select the required program by pressing the SYMBOL button until the LED lights up above the SYMBOL. NOTE: To override the programmed power setting at any time; simply use the / buttons to raise or lower the power as required. When child lock is activated the control buttons will not work, preventing any accidental operation. The exception is the power button which, for safety, can still be used to power off. To remove the child lock, press again for another 3 secs. SAFETY ADVICE Induction hobs will only heat metal objects of a certain size and type (eg saucepans!) Therefore if you were to place just your hand on the cold hob and then switch it on, there would be no heat transfer. Even a metal ring on your finger will not become hot as it is too small in size. However, please note carefully the following safety advice: During normal use in cooking with a pan, some areas of the glass hob surface will become hot due to heat being transferred to the glass from the base of the pan. Allow the surface to cool completely before touching, cleaning or storing the appliance. Never place other objects (such as metal cooking utensils) on the hob surface with the pan as they will heat up also. If a pan boils over, always switch off the power immediately, remove the plug from the mains supply and allow everything to cool completely before cleaning up the spill. ERROR CODES E1 E2 E3 E4 E5 E6 Pan not suitable; Use a suitable induction pan (see suitable cookware in introduction to cooking section, pg 3.) Overheat Protection; Switch off at the mains and allow to cool before re-use Mains voltage too high Mains voltage too low Temperature sensor error; switch off at the mains. Contact HoMedics Service if error persists Boil dry protection; switch off and check the pan has something in before restarting CLEANING AND CARE Before any cleaning operation always switch off and disconnect the appliance from the mains power supply and allow to cool completely. To keep your appliance in the best condition; clean after every use and before storing. The hob must not be immersed in water. Never hold under running water. Wipe the external surfaces with a clean, damp cloth as required. Do not use harsh abrasive cleaning products or solvents. To avoid scratching the glass, please avoid dragging pans across the hob surface, particularly uncoated cast iron pans which can have a rough finish. Never attempt to disassemble any part of the product for cleaning or any other purpose. Periodically, we recommended using a vacuum cleaner to remove any build up of dust from the fan housing on the underside of the product and the cooling vent at the rear of the product. No disassembly is required for this procedure.
