Minor Trade Waste Policy Scope All businesses or institutions that discharge Trade Waste to sewer will be liable for assessment against the conditions of this policy, to determine if they are Minor Trade Waste or Normal Trade Waste. All businesses or institutions that are classified as Minor Trade Waste must comply with the conditions contained in this policy. South East Water may add or remove businesses or institutions from the Schedule of Minor Trade Waste in light of further operational experience. South East Water may inspect premises to confirm that the actual business is Minor Trade Waste. All business or institutions other than those assessed as being Minor Trade Waste will be required to enter into a Trade Waste Agreement with South East Water. Definitions Minor Trade Waste is waste discharged to sewer from those Businesses or Institutions detailed in Schedule 1, and does not require a Trade Waste Agreement / Consent. Hobby Cases in domestic premises and not for commercial gain are considered as Domestic Waste, not Trade Waste. The sizing criteria for Minor Trade Waste cases is shown in Schedule 2 Exemption criteria for food businesses A common misconception is that trade waste is only generated from businesses that cook food on site however trade waste is generated from the washing of utensils, trays, cutlery, containers, etc associated with the handling, preparation, manufacture and/or serving of food. An exemption will only be considered upon written request. Schedule 1 Definition of Minor Trade Waste Cases Type of Premises (a) Food businesses classified under the Food Act 1984 as Class 1, 2, or 3. (b) Food businesses classified under the Food Act 1984 as Class 4. (c) Milk bar, cafe and the like. Permitted fixtures Up to six seats. One hand basin. One double bowl wash sink. Treatment Requirements Trade Waste Agreement/Consent and a Food and Oil Interceptor and / or appropriate treatment as required. Where it can be demonstrated that all of the conditions listed in the left hand column can be satisfied the customer will be deemed as minor trade waste and treatment required. Non pre packaged/sealed cakes, buns, biscuits, muffins, scones, croissants, doughnuts, and cookies, and not cooked on site (these are all individual items). One container of assorted cakes. Hot dogs. Steamed dim sims. Toasted sandwiches. Soup not cooked on site. Basic cold sandwiches. Heating only of pies, pasties and sausage rolls. Ice cream served from tubs etc. Food not permitted Egg and / or bacon sandwiches. Hot roasts or roast of the day sandwiches. Schnitzel (cooked on site) sandwiches. Soup (cooked on site). Focaccia sandwiches. Multiple containers of assorted cakes Burgers. Fried & grilled food eg dim sims, chips, fish etc Chickens. Hot potatoes. Pizza. Asian food. Activity not permitted Cooking on site. Bain-marie. Activity permitted Microwave heating. Pie warmer. If any of the fixtures that are not permitted are installed a Trade Waste Consent and a Food and Oil Interceptor may be required. More than 3 items; Trade Waste Consent and a Food and Oil If cooking is conducted on site a Trade Waste Consent and a Food and Oil Interceptor (Schedule 2) will be required.
