Examples of use Example Creating an SMS-based alarm with confirmation A project file must first be created using the A-Editor software. This project file is then stored in the alarm modem. The alarm modem is thus configured and functional. Measuring instrument: Contact Alarm goes to SMS Alarm: Alarm text Data logger 77 T (temperature) with internal sensor (channel ) with an external sensor (channel ) A-Editor software, Professional AK0 version (not for version AK) Technician 0-7 (mobile no. of technician) An alarm is to be sent when the external sensor reaches > C. Only the internal alarm from the logger is to be forwarded by the alarm modem, i.e. the logger is not to be permanently monitored by the alarm modem. Advantage: The logger battery is preserved. If the alarm is not confirmed within minutes, the same alarm is sent again. The technician confirms the alarm: he responds to the SMS received by sending the original text (containing the confirmation code) back to the alarm modem word for word. Alarm! Channel : "channel reading" > C. "Confirmation Code". "Date + Time" A) Requirements - The data logger must be programmed so that: - Alarm on logger is not set to on, i.e. red LED flashing - The upper alarm threshold of channel is set to C - All other alarm thresholds are well out of range - The required measuring cycle is set. - The A-Editor software is installed on the PC. B) Cabling The logger is linked to the alarm modem (COM) by means of the serial interface cable. For programming the alarm modem (COM), this is connected to the PC by means of the serial interface, but only while the project file is being created and saved. (See Chapter. Setting up alarm modem) C) Programming the alarm modem using the A-Editor: Start A-Editor software and access the project file containing the configuration of the alarm modem by doing one of the following: a) Load from the alarm modem; b) Load from PC; c) Create from new (refer to example in "Commissioning"). For this, the modules in the software must be processed as follows: Page

. Project module The project file contains all of the configuration data for operation and the requisite functions of the alarm modem. The options for creating the project file are as follows: - Use existing project file from the alarm modem as a template and modify accordingly: -> "Read Project" (see options bar on the left-hand side) For this, the alarm modem must be connected to the PC. Only then is the function shown. For activating the connection, refer to next chapter, "Connection module". - Use existing project file from the PC memory as a template and modify accordingly: -> "Load..." (options bar on left-hand side) I - Create a completely new project file: -> Select "New Project from Template" II Note: To set up a new project file, which requires considerably more information to be input than can be explained here, please refer to example in "Commissioning" or the Instruction manual. I II Page

. Connection module Create connection to alarm modem in A-Editor, i.e. select first, then connect: Imperative: The alarm modem must by this point be connected to the PC by means of the serial interface cable. In the first window, select "New" in the options bar on the left hand side, whereupon the new window will appear: 7 Connection Name Enter name for the connection. Location Enter location. No relevance to the messages. Type Select type of connection required. In the example, the project file is to be saved from the PC to the alarm modem, locally by means of a cable. Advanced Opens the details for "Local Modem". Find modems Click on here. The connected modem is identified, provided that the correct cabling is installed. Authentication A password can be stored in the project file as a means of access protection (in Alarm Modem Module). If a project file with this kind of access protection is used, e.g. is already saved in the alarm modem, the password must be given at this point to gain access to the alarm modem. This is not the password for remote switching which has to be given in the SMS text. Connect 7 Click on here and create the connection. Page

. Alarm Modem module The basic data about the SIM card and providers are stored here. If an existing project has been loaded, no changes are required at this point in order to carry out the "Alarm" function described in this example. The above data only have to be entered when creating a completely new project file. However, this is discussed in a separate section; please refer to the example given in one of the following: Commissioning or the Instruction manual. Page

. Variables module Variables Autodetect The A-Editor identifies all variables with the units which are available for the measuring instrument connected. Apart from this, the current values/readings are read in.the variables also include the readings for the individual channels, including the unit. In the example: ch# C (channel ) ch# C (channel ) Read Variables The values of the individual variables are read out of the alarm modem, i.e. they are not the measurement values from the measuring instrument itself, but the values which were read out from the measuring instrument into the alarm modem during the last Autodetect. For the purposes of further programming, it is advisable, or even necessary, that all variables available from the measuring instrument have been detected. To this end the variables must be scanned with "Autodetect"! This assumes that the instruments have been wired correctly and a connection has been activated in the "Connection" module. The command "Read Variables" will only provide correct values/units if the project has previously been sent to the alarm modem with the correctly scanned variables. How to send the project is described later under point 8. Page

. Address Book module 7 Address Book module In the first window: On the left-hand side in the Options menu: click on "New Contact". Name Name of contact E-mail Not necessary, as the alarm message should only be transmitted via SMS. Express E-mail To be left empty, function not activated SMS number Enter the mobile number of the contact address Pager number To be left empty, function not activated Fax Number Not necessary, as the alarm message should only be transmitted via SMS. OK 7 Finish and save the new contact. Page

. Messages module Messages module In the first window: On the left-hand side in the Options menu: Click on "New Message" or modify existing message by double-clicking on it. Name of Message Title for the message Message Type Choose appropriate message type, "SMS" in this case. Message Text Enter the message text: The variables - "ch# C" (current reading for channel ) A randomly generated code is sent to the recipient of the alarm in the alarm SMS. This code must be sent back to the alarm modem via SMS within the confirmation timeframe (definable), otherwise another alarm will be sent. - "Confirmation Code" - "Date + Time" are selected with the help of the Contact menu. Do this by rightclicking on the appropriate part of the text and selecting the relevant variable via the menu structure; in the case of the channel reading for example: -> testo 7/77 ->Inputs -> ch# C Append Location Text If the location text (as shown in the preview) is to be attached to the SMS, please activate the box. Remaining Characters Displays the remaining number of characters for the SMS. No further information can be sent by SMS. OK Finish and save the message. Page 7

7. Alarms module 7 8 9 0 Example alarms have already been created in the list of alarms and are activated. Those alarms which you yourself are not using or modifying should be deactivated. Do this by going into each individual alarm and declicking the "Activated" box. As the internal alarm of the data logger is used as a trigger, the following must be observed: When programming the data logger, the following settings must be made in the ComSoft -> Instrument control -> Settings: Ativate Alarm Switch Output. Alarms module In the first window: On the left-hand side in the Options menu: Click on "New Alarm" or modify existing alarm by double-clicking on it. Name Name of alarm Event "Threshold Overshooting" must be selected in order to forward the internal alarm of the data logger. This option is recommended for data loggers, because the alarm modem does not wake the measuring instruments according to the rhythm of the querying rate, but only reacts to their alarm output. The querying rate can thus be h (factory setting). This considerably increases the battery life of Page 8

the data logger. However, when the internal alarm in the data logger switches to on, and the corresponding variable assumes the value accordingly, the querying rate automatically changes to 0 sec. The.original querying rate switches back to the original condition only when the alarm in the data logger is reset to 0 (via SMS switch command, with the Alarm Editor or by reprogramming the data logger). Variable The internal alarm of the data logger must be chosen here as the variable: "testo 7/77-Alarm" Trigger To access the alarm condition (data logger alarm from 0 to, corresponding to reading > C), "Low to High" must be chosen. Activated Activate alarm Contact Choose "Technician" and the message type: "SMS" Message 7 Select "Example Alarm" Following Alarm 8 Select "(Retry)". The same alarm text is thus sent again to the same destination. "Create New Alarm is also an option. The content and destination can both be reset in the new alarm. Confirmation 9 Activate Confirmation Timeframe 0 Set to " Minutes". OK Save alarm with "OK". Test Alarm In the options bar on the left-hand side of the screen. The alarm is triggered for testing using this switch. This checks that the alarm has been transmitted correctly, including with the requisite content. Testing the alarm this way is recommended before putting the system into service. Page 9

8. Project module Project module Save As... It is a good idea to save the project file to the PC under a name first before loading it into the alarm modem. Send Project Load the project file into the alarm modem. The alarm modem is now fully configured or programmed. The cabling between the alarm modem and PC can be disconnected and the system (consisting of the alarm modem and measuring instrument) can be left to operate. Exit the A-Editor. Page 0
