Regarding: 33 Arden Park Drainage July 9/1 3 ('" 5S~ Rf::CEiVED JUL 1 12013 Dear Joan Thomson CITY CLERK'S OFFICE I am writing this letter for 1would like to have an opportunity to discuss the drainage issues at 33 Arden Park and the adjoining homes. I have been in contact with Martin Ritsma who suggested that I send this letter to arrange a meeting with the Public Works Sub Committee. This property has a big issue when it comes to water drainage or lack of. Any water from rain or snow melt stays in our back yard and the neighbor's back yards. The lots are lower at the back than at the front with no place for the water 10 get away. I have talked 10 all adjoining neighbors and have discovered that all ofthem have approached the City with little response or willingness to deal with this issue. The last person who talked to the City was who is next door to the west. She was sent to George but she found the meeting none productive. QuId not tell me what George's last name was. I IX who is west of 3.S is in #25 and has also contacted the City but with little success. Evetyone that I have talked to on our side ofarden Park is furious with the City. Our home is at 33 Arden Park and it has an existing catch basin in the back yard. At one time according to the neighbors it went to a catch basin in the old Kohler Parking lot and then cut across where the Town Houses were built to the west of Is(29) &. Jx(25). It was a working catch basin but as soon as they built the town houses that is when the problems started. The drain was disconnected at the time of building the townhouses and that is when the flooding started. These townhouses were approved by the City with drainage approvals etc. The City gained tax revenue from nine town houses that were built and what we got is flooding. Both { have had their basements flooded. I have had discussions with Steve krueter and there is a logical option to correct our water problem. There is a storm catch basin in front of and what we are proposing is to run a drain from the catch basin in our back yard to the catch basin at the road. I have a quote for 54500.00 to run the drain to my back yard which does not include permits and taxes. The problem I have is that Steve krueter told me that I would need to cut an additional cheque to the City for 55000.00 to run the drain to the propelty line. To add to this he could not guarantee that this would be enough money to cover the work. Although all will benefit from this drain the main cost will be incurred by me and this bill from the City is not fair and will prevent the drain from going in. At present the neighbors are using pumps to get the water out oftheir back yard. The existing catch basin in our back yard worked perfectly until disconnected. I did not create this mess and do feel that the City should be assuming their p0l1ion oftile cost to correct the problem. These townhouses when, built, were passed and I assume that goes for the drainage also. There is something wrong when new construction no matter how long ago, causes flooding to the adjoining neighbors. Please review and allow this to be part octhe Subcommittee's agenda.
