AMPLIFIERS MHSAMP-06-WALL MHSAMP-06-CUBE MHSAMP-01 5.1 Channel Integrated Amplifier 5.1 Channel Integrated Amplifier Zone 2 Amplifier General Information Models MHSAMP-06-WALL and MHSAMP-06-CUBE are identical except for the equalization circuitry within the amplifier. This operating manual pertains to both amplifiers and they are referred to as Amplifier in this operating manual. This manual also covers MHSAMP-01, referred to as Zone 2 Amplifier in this manual. The Amplifier is designed to enhance audio performance from audio / video components without requiring significant manual adjustments. The Amplifier utilizes QSound Lab s sound processor, QSurround TM, to create dynamic surround sound from any stereo matrix encoded signal. The Amplifier incorporates internal switching mechanisms and sensors to automatically distribute sound to and from the appropriate location and source. Music can be distributed from the Amplifier to additional rooms through a connection to an optional Zone 2 Amplifier. The Zone 2 Amplifier can be connected to an additional Zone 2 Amplifier to distribute music to several additional rooms. The Amplifier includes equalization circuitry that is designed to optimize the output for specific speakers utilized in the system. Speakers MHSAMP-06-WALL 2 6 ½ Wall Speaker (SPW65M-01) 3 4 X 6 Speaker (SP4X6M-01) 2 6 X 9 Speaker (SP6X9M-01) MHSAMP-06-CUBE 5 Cube Speaker (SPCBMH-01) 2 6 X 9 Speaker (SP6X9M-01) The performance of the amplifier may vary if alternative speakers are utilized in the system. Features The Amplifier has the following main features: Seven speaker output, including dual subwoofer output. Defined equalization circuitry to optimize speaker output. QSurround TM processor provides 5.1 channel surround sound from stereo and stereo matrix encoded signals. Multi-source / Multi-room capability allows two sources to play simultaneously in two different rooms. Automatic switching circuitry eliminates manual adjustments. Line level or speaker level input for stereo source Line level input for television audio output connection. Surround and subwoofer speaker volume adjustments provide optimal acoustics relative to listening area. Auto power on / off. The Zone 2 Amplifier has the following main features: Amplified stereo sound from stereo input connected to Amplifier. Line level input for connection to Amplifier. Line level input for television audio output connection. Line level output for connection to an additional Zone 2 Amplifier. Auto power on / off.
Operating Instructions Before operating system, please read this manual thoroughly and retain for future reference. Parts Description Amplifier 1 AC power plug 2 Power indicator light 3 Seven speaker connection output 4 Zone 2 amplifier connection output 5 Speaker level input for audio component 6 Line level RCA input for audio component 7 Line level RCA input for television 8 Surround speakers volume adjustment 9 Subwoofer volume adjustment Zone 2 Amplifier 1 AC power plug 2 Line level RCA input for television 3 Main Amplifier input connection 4 Additional Zone 2 amplifier output 5 Speaker output to volume control Connections Amplifier The Amplifier provides connections to audio / video components as illustrated below. The rear panel of the audio / video component connected to the Amplifier requires an audio out feature (speaker or line level). This audio signal must have variable output, this feature is usually found within the televisions audio menu. If the system is connected to a fixed output signal, the volume +/- cannot be controlled by the television. Hookups Television Stereo (speaker level) Stereo (line level) Note: The Amplifier provides two types of connections from a stereo source: speaker level or line level. Only one of the two connections will be played through the Amplifier. The most common connection from a stereo source is speaker level. See diagrams above for connections.
Audio Component CD Player Connection Component may be connected through certain stereo components or directly through the television. If connection is made through the television, the audio out from the CD player should be connected to the audio in of a video input on the television. Set television to video input and control volume through the television (television screen will be blank when operating under this connection). See illustration below: Video Component Audio outputs from video components should be connected through the television. The audio signal is passed through the television to the Amplifier. See illustration below: Zone 2 Amplifier Hookups Audio Component The Zone 2 Amplifier connects directly to the Amplifier and will play music from the audio component connected to the Amplifier. See illustration below: Video Component A television can be connected to the Zone 2 Amplifier through an audio cable. See illustration below: Customizing Sound Fields
If you feel the volume of the surround or subwoofer speakers are inadequate, perform the following: Located on the top panel of the Amplifier are volume adjustments for the surround and subwoofer speakers. Use a flat head screwdriver to adjust until the appropriate sound level is determined. Note: optimal position varies based on proximity of listening area relative to speakers. As all audio / video components have different audio output signals, a volume adjustment may be required: The Amplifier may have a volume adjustment for the television on the top panel or may be supplied with a separate in-line volume control (part # MHSLLA-01). The in-line volume control connects to the television input of the Amplifier. To set the television volume adjustment, perform the following: With the television connected to the Amplifier, set television volume to the middle of the volume bar. Using a flat head screwdriver, turn the volume adjustment on the Amplifier or in-line volume control until the desired listening volume is obtained. Operating Situations / Tips Television and Stereo on at same time: Television has priority and will play through speakers in main listening area. Once television is turned off, there is a 15 second delay before stereo plays in the main listening area. In multi-room system, stereo will play in additional zones simultaneous to television in the main listening area. Mute Television: Allows you to listen to stereo source while watching television. If television is muted, stereo will play after a 15 second delay. Volume Control: Main listening area volume is controlled through audio / video component connected to the Amplifier.
Additional Rooms: The signal from the audio component connected to the Amplifier will pass though to a Zone 2 Amplifier connected to the Amplifier. Volume in the additional room can be controlled through an in-wall volume control located in the additional room. A television signal connected to the Zone 2 Amplifier will override the signal received from the Amplifier. Once the television signal is terminated, the audio signal from the Amplifier will play after a 15 second delay.

Placement of Speakers In-Wall Speaker Placement Cube Speaker Placement IN-WALL SYSTEM Center Speaker (4 x 6 Center) 1. Center the speaker as close as possible to the top of the television monitor. The speaker is magnetically shielded to prevent interference with the television monitor. Front Left and Right (6 ½ In-Wall) 2. The left and right speaker should be placed an equal distance from the center of the television monitor. The speakers should be a least 6 feet, or as much as 15 feet apart from each other. A reference is to place the speakers so that they form a 45 degree angle to the listening area. 3. The speakers should be in line with the television monitor or just above the television monitor.
4. The speaker is not magnetically shielded and needs to be at least two feet away from the television monitor. Surrounds (4 x 6 Surrounds or 6 ½ Ceiling) Wall Application 1. Placement on the wall directly behind the listening area or on the walls to the side of the listening area. For best results, place speakers on rear walls. 2. Placement should be approximately 2 to 3 feet above the listening area. Subwoofer Ceiling Application 1. Placement should be just beyond the listening area. 2. For best results, place speakers close to intersecting walls corner or wall and floor. 3. The speaker is not magnetically shielded and needs to be a least two feet away from the television monitor. 4. We recommend placing speakers at same end of room as the television monitor. An alternative method is to place speakers at opposite ends of the room. CUBE SYSTEM The cube speakers are identical and are used as the Center, Front Left and Right, Surround Left and Right. Follow same placement recommendations for In-Wall speakers. The Subwoofer placement is identical to the In-Wall speakers.
