The facility provides both primary and secondary treatment for approximately 280 million gallons of wastewater per day (mgd), and has a total permitted capacity of 400 mgd. For a detailed description of the wastewater inlet and plant discharge characteristics, see the website, www.lacsd.org/wastewater/wwfacilities/ jwpcp. The tour will focus primarily on the Total Energy Facility (TEF) which is the onsite cogeneration plant. We will have an overview presentation of the operational parameters of the facility in their main office over dinner, followed by a walking tour of the TEF Control Room, Gas Turbine Building, the HRSG s, the Steam Turbine Building, and the Fuel Gas Compression Building. Solids collected in Primary Treatment and Secondary Treatment are processed in anaerobic digestion tanks where bacteria break down organic material and produce methane gas. After digestion, the solids are dewatered at Solids Processing and hauled off-site to composting, land application, and landfill disposal. Methane gas generated in the anaerobic digestion process is used to produce power and digester heating steam in a Total Energy Facility that utilizes gas turbines and waste-heat recovery steam generators. The on-site generation of electricity permits the JWPCP to produce most of its electricity. Meeting Details Date: Wednesday, May 13, 2015 Time: 5:30 p.m. Overview Presentation Over Dinner followed by Plant Tour Location: JWPCP Facility, 24501 S. Figueroa St, Carson, CA 90745 RSVP: Joan Akleh 714-628-6512 Joan.Akleh@emerson.com Hurry!! This is a rare opportunity to see the JWPCP and the tour is limited to the first 30 people who respond. Please follow the link for more details: https:// www.isa.org/membership/membership-options/senior-member-grade-application/ I realized that many of us do not have too much extra time to spend volunteering, but I would appreciate your feedback and ideas regarding any of the ISAOC section events. Please send us an email and we will address each and every comment. At the same time we are inviting all subject matter experts or end users with interesting applications in the automation/instrumentation fields to share some of their expertise and step up to make a presentation during one of our monthly meetings. Please let us know your interest and we will promptly respond. Our annual plant tour is coming up on May 13, 2015. This year we are touring one of the largest waste water treatment plants in the world, Joint Water Pollution Control Plant (JWPCP- LA County Sanitation District). I invite you to joins us and see this fully automated operation which is just in our back yard.
