Horticulture and Floristry Writtle College is one of the largest and best-known providers of horticultural education in the United Kingdom. Writtle has a wealth of outdoor and indoor resources which are used for teaching and learning including extensive college gardens, a 220 hectare estate managed for crop production and conservation, sports fields, tropical and temperate glasshouses. The Floristry Department has exclusive use of four workshops located in its own purpose-built unit where students learn practical skills which lead to jobs in retail, interior landscaping and freelance business opportunities. Improving your English skills at Writtle Free English classes English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classes are offered throughout the year in addition to other language services. In-sessional English courses are free and help with skills such as assignment writing and general English language and culture. Individual tutorial support is also available as required. Pre-Sessional English Language courses Pre-sessional English Courses at Writtle College offer you tuition in all English language skills in preparation for academic studies in UK Higher Education. You will receive an introduction to styles of teaching in the UK, academic teaching staff and departments as well as an orientation to living in England and British culture. There are three pre-sessional courses starting in April, June and August depending on your level of English and the requirements of your course. The pre-sessional courses also have a strong social programme included and within your studies you will be visiting famous local landmarks and tourist sites as well as visits to London, Windsor and Canterbury. 10 International Prospectus

Accommodation and Recreation Accommodation Our Accommodation Offi ce manages our thirteen halls of residence on campus. Halls comprise comfortable single study bedrooms with over half having en-suite facilities. A basic meals starter allowance for ten meals per week is included in hall fees and is taken at our campus restaurant, the Writz. We can also help you with off-campus accommodation in the local area if you prefer to live in a shared house or lodgings. Recreation Centre Recreation Centre facilities include a sports hall, squash courts and a fully equipped fitness room. The College bar complex has a big screen TV, juke box and pool table. Next door is the Writtle Chef, a fast food outlet serving hot snacks to eat in or take away. Students Union The College has an active Students Union, which organises special events throughout the year and a weekly entertainment programme. The highlight of the social calendar at Writtle College is the Summer Ball, held in the College grounds and with a number of attractions including live bands to real fairground rides. Sports and Clubs There are numerous organised student clubs at the College, including the photography club, mountaineering club and the ski club and regular social activities range from discos to barbecues to quiz nights and comedy nights. Team sports are also very popular especially rugby, football, hockey and netball. 12 International Prospectus

International Student Support International Student Support The Learning Services team has developed a strong international student support system offering counselling and friendly help with issues such as visas, employment and academic issues. International Students Social Club The Club meets regularly and organises activities such as quiz evenings, day trips, ethnic theme parties, presentations by student groups on their home country and trips to the local ice rink and bowling alley, as well as celebration meals for special occasions.
