Congratulations on the purchase of your new Breville Ikon Kettle and Toaster

Breville recommends safety first We, at Breville are very safety conscious. We design and manufacture consumer products with the safety of you, our valued customer, foremost in mind. In addition, we ask that you exercise a degree of care when using any electrical appliance and adhere to the following instructions: IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS FOR YOUR BREVILLE IKON TOASTER KETTLE COMBO Carefully read all instructions before operation and save for future reference. Remove any packaging material and promotional stickers before using the toaster and/or kettle for the first time. This appliance has been designed specifically for the purpose of toasting bread products and/or boiling drinking quality water only. Do not place the appliance near the edge of a bench or table during operation. Ensure the surface is level, clean and free of water. Do not let the cord hang over the edge of a bench top, counter or table, touch hot surfaces or become knotted. Fully unwind the cord before use. Keep appliance clear of walls and other heat sensitive materials. Minimum 200mm distance. Never cover the appliance whilst it is plugged into the power outlet or while hot. Do not place on or near a hot gas burner, electric element or in or near a heated oven. To protect against electric shock, do not immerse the power supply cord, plug or any part of the appliance in water or any other form of liquid. Do not touch hot surfaces. Use the handle for lifting and carrying the kettle and use side areas for lifting and carrying the appliance. Ensure the toaster is cool before handling. Always turn the power off at the power outlet and then remove the plug from the power outlet before attempting to move the appliance, when the appliance is not in use and before cleaning or storing. Keep the appliance clean. Refer to care and cleaning (page 10). Bread may burn, therefore the toaster must not be used near or below curtains or other combustible material and it must be supervised at all times when in use. The appliance should not be left unattended during toasting. Ensure that bread to be toasted is the correct size for the toaster and does not protrude above the bread slice opening and is not too thick or long that it will jam or wedge the bread carriage. Do not operate the toaster on its side. Never add any food substance to the bread, English muffins or crumpets as this can lead to electrocution or fire. This toaster is for toasting bread, English crumpets and muffins only. Placing other items in the toaster can lead to electrocution or fire. Do not place cold toast on top of toasting slots to warm toast as this may prevent correct air circulation and damage the appliance. Do not remove the kettle from the power base during operation. Ensure the kettle has switched to OFF position, after the water has boiled, before removing the kettle from the power base. 4

The kettle lid should always be firmly in place and locked in the closed position before and during use. This appliance is not intended for use by young children or infirm persons unless they have been adequately supervised by a responsible person to ensure they can use the appliance safely. Close supervision is required at all times when operating the appliance near children. Do not leave the appliance where children can touch hot surfaces. Young children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance. It is recommended to regularly inspect the appliance. Do not use the appliance if the power supply cord, plug or appliance becomes damaged in any way. Return the entire appliance to the nearest authorised Breville Service Centre for examination and/or repair. Any maintenance other than cleaning should be performed at an authorised Breville Service Centre. This appliance is for household use only. Do not use this appliance for anything other than its intended use. Do not use in moving vehicles or boats. Do not use outdoors. The installation of a residual current device (safety switch) is recommended to provide additional safety protection when using electrical appliances. It is advisable that a safety switch with a rated residual operating current not exceeding 30mA be installed in the electrical circuit supplying the appliance. See your electrician for professional advice. Under no circumstances should this product be used to boil any other liquids or foodstuffs. Always ensure the kettle switch is in the 'OFF' position, then turn the power off at the power outlet and remove the plug from the power outlet before attempting to move the appliance, when the appliance is not in use and before cleaning and storing. Do not remove the kettle from the power base during operation. Ensure the kettle has switched to 'OFF' position, after water has boiled, before removing the kettle from the power base. Do not move the kettle while it is switched on. Do not open the lid during operation. Do not touch hot surfaces. Use the handle for lifting and carrying the kettle. Keep the appliance clean. Refer to care and cleaning (page 10). The toaster is electronically controlled and will not lock down into the toast position until the Breville Ikon Toaster Kettle Combo appliance is plugged into a 230/240 volt power point and switched on. Do not operate the Breville Ikon Toaster Kettle Combo on an inclined surface. Do not move the kettle while it is switched on. NEVER OPERATE TOASTER ON ITS SIDE. NEVER ADD ANY FOOD SUBSTANCE TO THE BREAD, MUFFINS OR CRUMPETS AS THIS CAN LEAD TO ELECTROCUTION OR FIRE. THIS TOASTER IS FOR TOASTING BREAD, CRUMPETS AND MUFFINS ONLY. PLACING OTHER ITEMS IN THE TOASTER CAN LEAD TO ELECTROCUTION OR FIRE. THIS TOASTER KETTLE COMBO APPLIANCE SHOULD BE USED WITH A RESIDUAL CURRENT DEVICE (SAFETY SWITCH) TO LESSEN THE RISK OF SCALDING OR OTHER INJURY FROM HOT WATER THAT MAY BE EJECTED IF THE HEATING ELEMENT ERUPTS. DISREGARD THIS POINT IF YOUR HOME IS FITTED WITH A RESIDUAL CURRENT DEVICE (SAFETY SWITCH). 5

Operating your Breville Ikon Toaster Kettle Combo Remove any packaging material and promotional labels before using your toaster kettle combo appliance for the first time. The power plug of the Breville Ikon Toaster Kettle Combo has to be plugged into a power outlet and switched on at the power outlet before the toaster or the kettle can be activated. The toaster and the kettle can be operated separately or together. Operation of the kettle It is recommended before first use to fill the kettle to the maximum level with cold tap water, bring to the boil then discard the water. The kettle will only operate when positioned on the power base with the ON/OFF switch in the ON position. The kettle will automatically switch off once the water has boiled. 1. To fill the kettle with water, remove it from the power base and open the lid by pushing the lid release button on top of the handle. The lid will automatically open. Fill with desired amount of water. Always fill the kettle between the minimum and maximum marks on the water window. Too little water will result in the kettle switching off. 2. Ensure that the lid is closed and locked firmly into place. Place the kettle securely onto the power base. Insert the power plug into a 230/240V power outlet and switch ON. 3. Press the lower section of the ON/OFF switch on the handle to the ON position. The power symbol on the switch will illuminate. 4. The kettle will automatically switch OFF once the water has boiled. Lift the kettle from the power base and pour the water. Take care to hold the kettle level, especially when filled to the maximum level. To re-boil it may be necessary to wait for a few seconds to allow the control to reset. 5. The kettle can be switched off manually by pressing the upper section of the ON/OFF switch on the handle to the OFF position. 6. The kettle should be stored on its power base when not in use. The appliance should be switched off at the power outlet and the power cord unplugged from the power outlet when not in use. The kettle must only be used with the power base supplied. Use caution when pouring water from your kettle, as boiling water will scald. Do not pour the water too quickly. Always fill the kettle between the minimum (MIN) and the maximum (MAX) marks on the water window of the kettle. Too little water will result in the kettle switching OFF. Filling above the maximum mark on the exterior of the kettle may result in boiling water splashing from the kettle. Do not remove the kettle from the power base during operation. Ensure the kettle has switched to OFF position after the water has boiled, before removing the kettle from the power base. THIS KETTLE IS DESIGNED FOR THE BOILING OF DRINKING QUALITY WATER ONLY. NEVER USE IT TO HEAT OR BOIL ANY OTHER LIQUIDS OR FOODSTUFFS. THE LID SHOULD ALWAYS BE FIRMLY IN PLACE AND LOCKED IN THE CLOSED POSITION BEFORE AND DURING USE. 7

Operating your Breville Ikon Toaster Kettle Combo continued Kettle safety boil dry protection The kettle is fitted with a safety device, which protects against overheating, should the appliance be operated with insufficient water. If this occurs the kettle will stop heating, and the illuminated light within the ON/OFF switch will go out. Switch the ON/OFF switch to OFF, switch off at the power outlet and allow the kettle to cool before refilling. The safety device will automatically reset when the kettle has cooled down. For additional safety your kettle is fitted with an additional thermal cut out. In the event of overheating, the kettle will automatically shut down to prevent further damage. Should this occur, take your kettle to an authorised Breville Service Centre. Operation of the toaster When using the toaster for the first time, we suggest you toast on setting No. 3 or 4. Varying types of bread and personal preference may require a different browning setting, for example: raisin toast and white light-textured breads may require a lighter setting, whilst heavier textured rye breads may require a darker setting. 1. Insert the power plug into a 230/240V power outlet and switch ON. 2. Place only 2 slices of bread or 2 halves of an English muffin or bagel into each of the bread slots. Ensure the bread slices or muffin/bagel halves are not too large or thick to fit in the slots. 3. Select the desired browning setting using the browning control dial. Colour settings range from 1 lightest to 6 darkest. 4. Press the high lift lever down until it clicks into place and the indicator notch above the browning control dial will illuminate. Toasting cycle will automatically commence. If the toaster kettle combo appliance is not plugged in and switched on at the power outlet, the high lift lever will not click into place. 5. The toaster turns off when the desired toast colour is achieved and automatically raises the toast. The toasting process can be stopped at any time by pressing the STOP button located on the browning control knob or switching off at the power outlet. DO NOT LEAVE UNATTENDED WHEN IN USE AS TOAST MAY JAM OR WEDGE IN THE BREAD CARRIAGE. 8

High lift To remove smaller items such as crumpets and English muffins, lift the high lift lever approximately 20mm above the starting position. Toasting frozen bread To toast frozen bread, place the bread into the toasting slots, select the desired browning setting, lower the high lift lever until it clicks into place then press the defrost button which will illuminate. Selecting this button will extend the toasting time. A bit more This function allows you to add a bit more if the toast requires a little more toasting or heating. Place toast into toasting slots, lower the high lift lever until it clicks into place and press a bit more button which will illuminate. In the unlikely event that the bread or crumpet becomes jammed, switch the power off at the power outlet. Remove the power plug from the power outlet and then carefully ease the bread out of the toaster, ensuring that you do not damage the self centering slots or the elements. Stop The toasting, defrosting and a bit more functions can be cancelled at any time by pressing the Cancel button. The toaster will turn off and automatically raise the toast. NEVER ATTEMPT TO EXTRACT JAMMED TOAST, CRUMPETS OR ENGLISH MUFFINS OR ANY OTHER ITEM WITH A KNIFE OR ANY OTHER OBJECT, AS CONTACT WITH LIVE ELEMENTS MAY NOT ONLY DAMAGE THE ELEMENTS, BUT CAUSE ELECTROCUTION. THE LID OF THE KETTLE MUST ALWAYS BE LOCKED CLOSED WHILST THE KETTLE IS IN OPERATION. 9

Care and cleaning Always switch off at the power outlet, and then unplug the appliance from the power outlet before cleaning either the toaster or the kettle. Toaster: The crumb tray on the toaster should be cleaned out regularly. Do not allow breadcrumbs to accumulate in the bottom of the toaster. 1. Always switch the power off at the outlet and then remove the plug from the outlet before cleaning the toaster. 2. To remove any crumbs from the toaster, slide out the crumb tray from under the toaster, empty and replace it before using the toaster again. 3. To clean the interior, remove the kettle from the power base and turn the toaster upside down over the sink to shake crumbs free. 4. Wipe the outside of the toaster with a slightly dampened cloth and polish with a soft dry cloth. Kettle: The removable mesh filter in the kettle should be cleaned regularly. Do not allow scale deposits to build up on the filter. 1. Always switch the power off at the outlet and then remove the plug from the outlet before cleaning the kettle. 2. To remove scale deposits, remove the filter by opening the lid and sliding the filter up and out of the kettle. The filter can be cleaned by running under hot water and rubbing with a cleaning cloth or brush. To replace filter, simply slide the filter down into the slot behind the spout of the kettle. 3. To clean any build up of mineral deposits in the interior of the kettle follow instructions below. 4. Clean the exterior of the kettle by wiping with a slightly dampened cloth and polish with a soft dry cloth. Do not use the toaster without the slide out crumb tray in place. do not allow crumbs to build up in crumb tray. Crumb tray should be cleaned out regularly. NEVER IMMERSE THE KETTLE, TOASTER, SWITCH AREA, JOINED POWER BASE, POWER SUPPLY CORD OR POWER CORD IN WATER, OR ALLOW MOISTURE TO COME IN CONTACT WITH THESE PARTS. 10

Removal of mineral deposits Mineral deposits in tap water may cause the kettle interior and water window to discolour over time. This may be removed by using a proprietary kettle descaler which is available from most leading supermarkets, department stores and hardware stores. Alternatively: 1. Fill the kettle until 2 3 full with 1 part white vinegar and 2 parts water. Boil and allow to stand overnight. 2. Empty the solution from the kettle. Fill the kettle with clean water, bring to boil and discard the water. Repeat and the kettle will be ready for use. Do not use chemical, steel wool, or abrasive cleaners to clean the inside or outside of the kettle. Storage Always switch the power off at the power outlet, then remove the plug from the power outlet and allow both toaster and kettle to cool completely before storing. Follow the directions for cleaning and store in an upright position. 11
