I have held numerous leadership positions during my career. I was Associate Director of the Center for Economic and Community Development at Ball State University (now Building Better Communities Program). During my tenure at BSU I also directed the Indiana Economic Development Basic Course and also was an adjunct instructor of urban planning. I also served at the Hudson Institute as a Research Fellow and Regional Economist focusing on applied economics, economic development and workforce development research. As a private sector planner, I have led many successful award winning redevelopment projects including the redevelopment of the area around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the City of Whiting s Lake Michigan waterfront redevelopment. My specific experience includes: Collaborating with clients in moving their plans into implementation through strong and pragmatic visioning, building public/stakeholder support and excitement, bridging financing gaps through assisting with financial planning and leveraging local resources and helping build internal capacity to manage large projects. Leading projects through an inter-disciplinary approach that helps assure that goals and strategies in the plans are workable and within budget when it comes to implementation. This approach also speeds the process from plan to fruition. Strong public/stakeholder engagement strategies that build key support for a project s success. These strategies include large and small group engagement workshops, community charrettes, educational programs and presentations, focus groups and shuttle diplomacy efforts with key stakeholders and groups. Establishing and maintaining strong client relationships built upon trust and strong communications. These relationships not only help secure repeat planning business but also selling additional services. Leading and transforming my 501c3 statewide professional organization by establishing a working strategic plan, professionalizing board operations, strengthening and empowering the board team and committees, hiring professional management staff and improving overall finances and cash flow.
