Venue Hire Located in the heart of Dunedin, the Dunedin Chinese Garden is New Zealand s only authentic Chinese Garden. As a Garden of National Significance it has a distinct character being designed using genuine Chinese materials and being crafted by a team of artisans from Dunedin s sister city of Shanghai. The Garden features hand-made wooden buildings, tiles, bricks, lattice-work and hand-finished granite paving stones.

Garden Space The Garden offers your guests a chance to unwind and discover the contrasting nature between traditional Eastern and Western garden styles. The traditional high garden wall encloses you and your guests in your own private sanctuary with the rest of the world seeming far removed.
Courtyard Transport yourself to a very special place. The Courtyard is perfect for an intimate wedding, dining experience or cocktails with the intricately detailed inlaid stone paving, authentic rocks and symbolic plantings. This private space is centrally located between the Tower Room, Tea House and Gift Shop.
Tower Room Offering views across the Heritage Precinct, the Tower Room is a novel location for board meetings, business get-togethers, or when you need a couple of quiet hours to meet and work through heavy agendas. Free parking at the door makes this an easily accessible option.
Wedding Photos A perfect miniature of a traditional Chinese landscape painting, the Garden encapsulates nature s essence. Many different spots around the Garden provide beautiful backdrops for your wedding pictures. Toitu otago Settlers Museum We are pleased to work in conjunction with the Museum in offering additional spaces to complement your function at the Garden from conference openings to pre-dinner cocktails. Speak with the Functions and Events Co-ordinator at Toitu Otago Settlers Museum to discuss your options. Catering Dunedin Chinese Garden can provide catering services from a selection of catering companies. For an additional charge, the Functions and Events Co-ordinator can arrange your catering.
HIRE CHARGES Tower Room $150 half day (9am 1pm, 1pm 4.30pm or by arrangement; no reduction if booked for less time) $200 full day (9am 4.30pm) Venue hire charge includes four tables, tablecloths, SMART television, white board and up to 24 chairs. Garden Hire Outside opening hours before 10am or after 5pm. $300 per hour (includes two staff) $30 per hour for extra 1 staff $30 per hour for security guard The Garden hire comprises use of the entire Garden space, including the Tower Room, Tea House and Tea Shop and two service staff. The number of staff required is based on number of guests per booking and is at the sole discretion of Garden staff. One security guard per 50 guests is required, also if alcohol is served security guard(s) are mandatory. Wedding rehearsals Up to 12 people can attend one wedding rehearsal during opening hours at the Garden. There is no charge for this however any additional people will be charged $6 each. An extra fee applies outside hours. Wedding Photographs only Step outside the traditional wedding photo setting and choose something different with the tranquil and beautiful setting of the Garden. Have your photographer take photos of your special day in the Garden during opening hours or by prior arrangement. The fee is $150 for a maximum of 12 people. terms and conditions Bookings are essential for all functions and ceremonies. Both parties have to sign the booking sheet and a copy will be given to the Hirer. We require a 10% deposit payment for all events to secure your booking. The deposit is based on the cost to hire the facility and is to be paid on the day of booking. The Garden does not have a liquor licence, therefore the alcohol responsibility agreement must be read and signed before we can allow the hosting of any function where alcohol will be bought in to the Garden by the Hirer. During normal opening hours, the maximum capacity for the function room is 24 (theatre style) and 10 for boardroom style. Outside normal opening hours, the maximum number of people for any style of function would be 100. Guests must stay on the pathway areas at all times. Plants and flowers must not be picked, removed or damaged in anyway. No temporary structures or covers (tents, flies etc) shall be permitted anywhere in the Garden for the purposes of reception or shelter. No confetti or other litter shall be thrown or left in the Garden. Adults are responsible for the supervision of their children at all times during any functions being held in the Garden.
