Querido. Mrs. Querido passed away on March 28 th, 2011. As many of you know, John Querido has served as our Section President on two different terms and he has also served as District Vice President. Our next May 11 th meeting presentation will be about Industrial Cyber Security. Some of the points to cover will be: hacker attacks, computer viruses and espionage, proper defense concepts, integrated IT security plan. This topic of current interest will be presented by Gary McDonald. Mr. McDonald is the EPC Business Development Manager for the Chemicals & Biofuels Markets at Siemens Industry. ISA - Central California Section Section tours zero-emissions power plant by Chip Wickline, ISA Central California Section On Thursday April 14th the ISA Central California Section toured the Zero-Emissions Kimberlina Power Plant of Clean Energy Systems/ AUSRA. An additional tour was schedule for Friday April 15th due to the large interest. We were hosted by Mr. Larry Trownsdale (Special Projects Manager) and Mr. Heath Evenson (Plant Manager) for the presentation of the Clean Energy Systems High Pressure Oxygen-Fuel Mixture rocket engine generation. We also had a tour of the adjoining and integral AUSRA solar thermal collection facility. On The Thursday tour guided by Seth Olson of Sycamore power plant we had with us Kevin Edwards of Patten Systems, Charles Maricukus of Emerson, Norm Fry of Sunrise Co-Gen, Phithoun Lau of Sunrise C0-Gen, Roy Blanco of Sunrise Co-Gen, Joel White of Chevron,, Andreas Somaggi of BIZCOM, Fernando Ceja of Pro 3 Automation and David Witeau of FLW. ISA Society News ISA Summer Leaders Meeting in St. Louis by Kim Gordley, ISA Join your fellow Society leaders June 25-28 at the beautiful and historical Chase Park Plaza Hotel in St. Louis, Missouri, for this year s ISA Summer Leaders Meeting. ISA Leaders Meetings bring together Society leaders to review and discuss the Society s direction and adopt guiding policies. In addition to conducting Society business, the meeting provides new ISA Leaders with an introduction to Society structure, operations, and activities through numerous leader orientation sessions. Training and Certification Certified Control Systems Technician exam testing windows ISA s Certified Control Systems Technician Program (CCST) offers third-party recognition of technicians knowledge and skills in automation and control. Being a CCST can also help you gain respect from management and your peers, advance your career, and earn you credibility. If you are a manager and looking for qualified technicians, or you need to document and verify your current technicians knowledge and skills, the CCST program can help. The testing window for applications received by May 13, 2011 is July 1, 2011 through June 30 2012. For applications received between May 14 and September 15, 2011, the testing window will be November 1, 2011, through October 31, 2012. Honors & Awards Outstanding Division and Section Awards Deadline for submitting applications for Outstanding Division Award and Section Performance Awards is June 1, 2011. Division Director s Annual Report and Performance Data Sheets must be presented to the Department Vice President by June 1. Awards will be presented at the October Society meetings in Mobile, Alabama, in October. The Outstanding Division Award recognizes a Division of the Automation & Technology and Industries & Sciences Departments of ISA for outstanding activities and definitive reporting during the year. The Outstanding Division Award was originated to stimulate the improvement of Division activities and to encourage documentation of Division activities, plans and achievements. All Divisions within the Automation & Technology and Industries & Sciences Departments are eligible to participate. The Section Performance Award was originated to recognize and reward high quality performance at the Section level. The ISA website states that the Section Performance Award carries a $500 honorarium and plaque for each of the winning Sections. Presentation is during the Society s annual Honors and Awards Program.
