Page 01 THE PRODUCT RANGE The dr.stelzer Consulting Agitator lines encompasses: Direct drive agitators in power classes from 71 to 250 of the IEC standard motors - Series DD... Transmission drive agitators in various models And designs - Series TDA... There were two aims at the developing these two Agitator lines To design agitators with high performance to meet the customers Requirements at nearly all conditions To design agitator lines which not require expensive special Machine tools or workers with extremely high skill We think the lines DD...and TDA.. can do this job to satisfy your customers And your workshop.

Page 02 THE AGITATOR LINES There are two basic categories of agitators: Direct drive agitators Transmission drive agitators DIRECT DRIVE AGITATORS Using direct drive agitators, the speed of the agitating element is always the same as the Speed of the motor. This limits agitator s speed range. The motor speed as function of The motor s pole number can be calculated by the following formula (frequency in Hz): 120 x frequency Synchronous speed = --------------------- in min -1 Number of poles Agitator drives are normally asynchronous motors with speeds slightly less than the Synchronous speed. All Dr. Stelzer Consulting agitator types in our direct drive series begin with The letters DD (direct drive). Our line of products includes agitators of types DDS and DDSF, which are agitators with Special hollowshaft motors (see the description of each of these types), and type DDM, which are agitators with IEC standard motors. TRANSMISSION DRIVE AGITATORS All transmission drive agitator types begin with the letter TDA (transmission drive agitator). There are various models for assorted applications and with different types of gears and With various shaft lengths and diameters. (see detailed descriptions of this line).

Page 03 SERIES DDS / DDSF ================== The DDS production lines consists of direct drive agitators with special motors. A special hollowshaft electric motor designed by Dr. Stelzer Consulting is employed as agitator drive. These motors have a hollow shaft rotor in which the agitator shaft is inserted and axially attached. The advantage of this design is that the motor serves simultaneously as agitator shaft, bearing and clutch, leading to reduced overall height. furthermore, this design permits the installation of the shaft through the tank. after mounting the agitator drive motor. The series DDS agitator drive motors are available in frame sizes 80 to 280 of the IEC standard motors. They are offered with 4, 6, 8, or 12 poles or switchable with 4/8, 6/12, and 12/24 poles. (Framesize 200 to 280 only as 2-pol motors for Dispersing Units) All motors are produced to conform to protection class IP 55 and insulation class F. The manufacturer`s nomenclature for the agitators in the DDS series follows the following pattern: After the series name (DDS), a two digit number represents the hundreds and tens places of the basic IEC standard series. The next two digits identify the number of poles or, in switchable motors, the lower number of poles with the letter P. The letter after the number of poles denotes the flange dimensions. The last number (3, 2, or 1) signifies the width of the windings according to the categories S-M-L of IEC standard motors. Example: DDS 1304 D3 This identifies an agitator in the DDS series conforming to IEC standard series 132 with a 4-pole motor whose synchronous speed is 1500 rpm at 50 Hz; it has mounting flange D and windings width L.

Page 04 Agitators in the DDSF series are designed for side-entry or bottom-entry. As standard they are equipped with a single acting mechanical seals type GLRD. The flanges are produced with a special leakage control that prevents possible leaks from accumulating in dead space.

Page 05 CUSTOM MODELS IN THE DDS / DDSF LINES ====================================== Agitators in the DDS and DDSF lines are available on request in a stainless steel housing. Motors can be provided for voltages in the range from 10 to 660 volts and in 50 or 60 Hz. Likewise, versions to accomodate high voltage fluctuations, higher insulation classes, and Tropical insulation are possible. The agitator elements can be chosen with raw surface roughness, weld joints pickled and Inactivated, ground to 120 to 180 grain, polished or electropolished. All standard parts Contacted by your product are produced with material quality AISI 304, but special materials And coatings can be provided as well. CUSTOM DDSF MODELS In addition to the custom models enumerated above for both DDS and DDSF lines, the Following custom options are available for the DDSF series: Double acting mechanical seal type DGLRD-FTB, DGLRD-FTF, DGLRD-BTF, DGLRD-CK, or DGLRD-TL (only for 12-pole motors). Stuffing box packing type STB- L and STB-F are also possible. You will find a more detailed description of the various Types of seals in the separate section on seals. The following versions are also available: Larger flange for angular installation Mounting flange completely stainless steel DSTC special flange (see description) A complete kit containing flat seals, stainless steel screws and / or bolts, nuts and lock Washers for mounting and attachment is available.

Page 06 SERIES D D M ============= The DDM series agitators are direct drive and have standard motors-beside of DDM...WE. Motors can be selected from a variety of manufacturers in a range of electrical specifications And in different protection categories (e.g. increased safety, flameproof, non sparking). Connections From agitator shaft to motor come in different models, depending on shaft length, torque, and speed Of rotation. The designation of this series adheres to the following pattern: The letters DDM are followed by three digits that denote the shaft diameter. Next comes the identification of the particular construction or model of the agitator. The abbreviations are: W -- without additional bearings; shaft mounted directly on the motor outputshaft B -- with additional shaft bearing; the connection from shaft to motor is via a fixed sleeve Coupling DB -- with double shaft bearings and bearing spacer and flexible coupling P -- switchable pole motor R -- model with frequency inverter, variable speed F -- agitator has additional gasket, its type being listed HZ -- hollowshaftdriving unit with pulley and standard IEC motor WE -- with special motorshaft using thread connecting the most economic type for Standard applications. The parts contacted by the product can be stainless steel, normal steel, special materials, or coated.

Page 08 AGITATORS with TRANSMISSION DRIVES - the TDA Line ================================================= Agitator in the TDA series are all gear-driven, which means that the speed of the motor and the Output of the agitator vary. Depending on shaft length, torque and speed of rotation, various types Of shaft bearings can be employed. Likewise various types of transmissions can be implemented, including spur gear, hollowshaft, variable speed on hydraulic. The motor to transmission connection can be made direct without a coupling in the form of a geared motor or with a elastic coupling in the form of a geared motor or with a elastic coupling permitting the use of standard type motors, pulley drive is an other possibility. The manufacturer`s nomenclature for these agitators is as follows: After the letters TDA, three digits indicate the shaft diameter; then a letter or letters for the model: W H HB -- without additional bearings; shaft mounted directly on the transmission journal -- with shaftmounted gear; hollow shaft serves as bearing -- shaftmounted gear with additional bearing spacer and bearing HDB -- with double shaft bearings and bearing spacer and shaftmounted gear B DB S R P F -- with additional shaft bearing -- with double shaft bearings and bearing spacer and elastic coupling -- with additional bottom bearing -- variable speed model; variable speed by gear or frequency inverter -- switchable pole (2 speed) -- agitator has additional gasket, its type being listed Example: TDA 125 HBPS This is an agitator with transmission drive, shaft diameter of 125mm, shaftmounted geared motor, additional bearing, switchable motor (two speeds) and bottombearing

Page 11 TDA...HDBF Agitator with two separate bearings, shaftmounted geared motor and stuffingbox The TDA...HBF is the most advanced agitator of the TDA line. By mounting the gear/geared motor on the shaft without any fixed connecting with the bearingbox a maximun of protection for the gear is given. -There is not any radial or axial force generated by the agitator to the gear. Page 12 The things for which the THE AGITATING ELEMENTS ========================= The thing for which the agitator drive, the seals and the shaft are needed is the Agitating Element, sometimes called `Agitator` but this can give a mixed up to the complete device, what is called `Agitator` too. The names of the agitating elements are usually according to their shape like `Anchor` or `Disc`. What the agitating elements distinguish, is their direction of flow and their energy dissipation, further their relation between vessel-diameter and agitating element diameter. These points give the selection of agitating elements according the required process.

Such shear sensitive processes are i.e.yoghurt incubation or flocculation by flocculants with extremely long molecule chains.

Page 14 BEAM AGITATOR and CROSSBEAM ================================ A beam agitator consists of two or more skewed surfaces. Agitating is based on the difference between the velocity of the product set in motion by the beam and the remaining product Normally the beams are positioned at an angle to the vertical of 45. If multiple beam units are located above one another it will be called CROSSBEAM (see lower illustration) This design normally employs a hub that goes through. Page 15 TRAPEZOID BEAM ================ The TRAPEZOID BEAM operates in principle like a beam with the same flow pattern. The trapezoidal shape of its blades gives a more smooth agitating and less shear to the product. The TRAPEZOID BEAM is very suitable for shear sensitive products and creates less vortex, which is important for agitating at a liquid level near to the agitating element.
