The Redbud May 2018 Volume 109 Contact us: auburn.garden.club@hotmail.com Website: www.auburngardenclub Newsletter: agclubnewsletter@gmail.com Hello all! President's Message As you are reading this, Carlos and I are having a great time seeing northern Europe! I will take lots of pictures but am sure they will not compare to all the wonderful ones Dave Faoro does! Our annual plant sale was a big success! I want to thank ALL who came out and worked in one way or another. Several members mentioned that they were thrilled to see all the plants we had (we were worried about having enough!) Thanks to Dave Faoro and Mike Malvey for all the tomato plants! The outside garden items went VERY quickly, and the Bake sale was as popular as always! We are only a few weeks away from our annual Installation luncheon at Awful Annie s. Please be sure to sign up for this fun time. Virginia and her crew always do an amazing job on decorations! Ann Wallace, Golden Foothill District Director will be joining us and doing the installation of officers. Have a wonderful May a beautiful time of year and see you June 4th! Erin Angulo May/June Calendar PLEASE NOTE! Next Meeting: Monday, May 21, 9 a.m. Bethlehem Lutheran Church one week ahead because of Memorial Day on the 4 th Monday. June 4, 2018 11:30 am Annual Installation and luncheon at Awful Annies, June 4, 11:30 am New Member Please welcome new member, Leah Capuchino, and she lives on Helen Lane in Auburn. \

This Month's Speaker Bee expert John Whittlesey will present information on our little-known but powerful pollinators, our native bees, and how to encourage their necessary work at the May meeting. Barbara Tellman Plant Sale Chair I wish to thank everyone that helped to make our Plant Sale a huge success. I understand we made over $3100.00 ($500.00 more than last year). You may also add your comments by sending me an email (richardhuntley@yahoo.com). We may be able to make improvements for next year. Keep in mind for plants for next years event. Richard Huntley, Plant Sale Chair Upcoming Events AGC FIELD TRIP MAY 15 9:00 AM PARKING LOT AT BETHLEHEM LUTHERAN CHURCH Join us for our field trip to Pauline and Lilly's garden in Roseville on May 15th. This beautiful garden was featured on the Master Gardeners Mother's Day Tour last year. Pauline and her mother, Lilly, (both Master Gardeners) have transformed their property from weed and scrub trees into four garden loops. Loop one features a lawn makeover filled with UC Davis Arboretum All-Stars, roses, fruit trees and a shade garden walk. Loop two contains a vegetable garden, a cottage garden with California native plants and a Japanese garden. Loop three is where you'll find an arched arbor walkway made with pvc bender board, compost bins and deck that was featured in Sunset Magazine. Loop four features the koi pond with 25-30 fish. Water from the pond is recycled and irrigates the back yard. Here you'll find more raised vegetable beds and an arbor with stained glass artwork designed and made by Pauline. Parking is very limited on this property so it will be necessary to carpool. We will meet in the back parking lot at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Auburn at 9:00 a.m. If you didn't get a chance to sign up at our last meeting, please contact Loretta McGrath at zgal55@gmail.com to be included. June Installation Luncheon Monday, June 4 at 11:30 am Awful Annies Reminder!! Auburn Garden Club annual Installation Luncheon will be on Monday, June 4th starting at 11:30AM. It will be held at Awful Annie's Restaurant in Auburn. We will be having a delicious buffet lunch and once again Ann Wallace will be the installing officer. Ann always has a fun time planned for us. So, come one, come all, and join in with your fellow club members for a social get together. The price of the luncheon is $20.00 per person (tax and tip included). You still have time to sign up and pay at our May meeting. Remember the May meeting is on May 21st because of Memorial Day being on the 28th. See all of you there, Virginia Rowley, Hospitality Chair
