This was an increase f 445 calls fr service ver 216. Incidents fr the quarter included 29 public service calls, 155 alarms activated, 75 mtr vehicle accidents, and 62 fires. Fire Preventin Public Educatin & Cde Enfrcement The Chilliwack Fire Department is practively wrking t reduce fire lss and injury thrugh educatin, engineering, cde enfrcement, and fire investigatins. Fire & Life Safety Educatin A ttal f 192 fire and life safety sessins were delivered t the cmmunity in 217. This includes 94 safety sessins held at the Chilliwack Safety Village fr lcal schl children. Fire Preventin Fire Investigatins. Fire Investigatins / Lsses Furth quarter fire lsses were $2,53,8 fr ttal lsses in 217 f $5,143,56. Thirteen civilians and tw firefighters suffered fire related injuries during the year, and ne civilian fire death ccurred in December 217. Twelve f the fire related injuries ccurred in residential buildings. A ttal f 17 dllar lss structure fires ccurred this quarter with 14 (82%) ccurring in residential ccupancies. Ttal 217 structure fire lsses were 67, with 57 (85%) ccurring in residential ccupancies. Training The last quarter f 217 was a very busy perid fr the Training Divisin. In additin t ur regular training, we began ur recruit training prgram fr paid n-call (POC) firefighters. This prgram is designed fr the new firefighters entering int ur paid n-call ranks. The prgram fcuses n fundamental firefighter training, and this year s training prgram had 12 new members. This training equips new firefighters t perate safely and effectively during emergency incidents. Technical Training Driver Training 2 apparatus peratrs were instructed and evaluated in a 16 hur prgram using the Internatinal Assciatin f Prfessinal Drivers (IAPD) educatin, techniques, and training that includes a cmbinatin f thery, track maneuvers, and rad evaluatins. Pre Hspital Care is a large cmpnent f ur training curriculum and includes regularly scheduled CPR, AED, and First Respnder (FR) 3 training. Cmmercial Vehicle Rescue Three f ur Vehicle Rescue Instructrs attended a cmmercial vehicle rescue curse. The techniques and knwledge gained in the curse will be applied t ur existing vehicle rescue prgram. Emergency Scene Management Five f ur senir firefighters attended a five day curse designed arund industry best practices t ensure firefighter and civilian safety and accuntability when mitigating incidents. Chaining up Tires fr Snw Funtain Tire delivered a department wide prgram n best practices and prcedures t chaining up apparatus. Paid On-Call Recruit Training Prgram Nvember 217 Educatin Fire Service Instructr As many f ur senir firefighters assist with training and teaching ur newer firefighters, we delivered a curse n the techniques f instructin t 24 members. Kinder Mrgan Pipeline Kinder Mrgan delivered a department wide presentatin n the expectatins and respnse in the event f an emergency invlving their pipeline running thrugh Chilliwack. Emergency Management The furth quarter saw a cntinued fcus n the 217 wildfire seasn. The Chilliwack Emergency Prgram tk part in debriefings facilitated by Emergency Management BC, where successes and lessns learned were shared by stakehlders frm arund the prvince. These debriefings prvided a gd pprtunity t make sme small revisins t the city s wildfire respnse plans, including the creatin f guidelines fr the peratin f Reginal Emergency Receptin Centres. Cmmunity awareness and educatin n emergency preparedness cntinues t be a fcus f the Chilliwack Emergency Prgram, with presentatins being delivered t the fllwing grups in the furth quarter: Chilliwack Secndary Schl, Chilliwack Senirs Resurce Sciety, Prspera Credit Unin staff, and the Evergreens at Ensley gated cmmunity. Planning fr the establishment f a secndary Emergency Operatins Centre began late in the furth quarter. Utilizing pre-existing City-wned infrastructure, the secndary Emergency Operatins Centre will add t the City s resiliency and capacity in the event f a large scale disaster. The Chilliwack Emergency Prgram cntinues t hld bimnthly meetings with internal and external stakehlders t imprve emergency planning effrts, relatinship building, and review f past emergency incidents. The Chilliwack Amateur Radi Club met weekly and cntinues t prvide regular training t their membership. In additin, the club als hsts affrdable tw day amateur radi licensing curses thrughut the year, whereby interested members f the public can becme a certified basic amateur radi peratr. The Chilliwack Emergency Scial Services team met mnthly t train and discuss past emergency incidents. There were n calluts fr the team t prvide emergency fd, clthing, r shelter in the furth quarter. Cmmunity Activities The Fire Department cntinues t be actively invlved in many cmmunity events and fundraisers. This quarter, Chilliwack firefighters and the Chilliwack Firefighters Charitable Sciety (CFFCS) vlunteered and raised mney fr the Sciety at the fllwing events: Rsedale Harvest Festival rganized a pancake breakfast raising mney fr Wildfire Relief and the Salvatin Army; Hallween Dance (rganized by the CFFCS); Remembrance Day Centaph prcessins (with the department s Hnur Guard); Men s and Ladies' Nights at Muntainview Harley-Davidsn; Yarrw Open Huse BBQ; Salvatin Army Fd Drive (with Chilliwack Search and Rescue and Emergency Scial Services) cllected apprximately 18, fd items, alng with cash dnatins; Hbby Hill Preschl, Breakfast with Santa; BIA Tree Lighting event at Salish Park; Department calendar and clthing sales; Assisted with Bright Nights in Stanley Park (spnsred by the BC Prfessinal Firefighters Burn Fund).
