THE FOLGER SHAKESPEARE LIBRARY ANC 6B Meeting 12 MARCH 2019 1
1. Honor the Folgers gift to the nation a majestic building and peerless collection by making the 1932 Paul Cret building all it can be for today s visitors and users. 2. Ensure that the Folger s buildings, grounds, and public amenities clearly express our desire to welcome and inspire a new generation of people who love the humanities, starting with Shakespeare. 3. Make access to the Folger s spaces and collections seamless, allowing visitors, staff, and researchers to take greatest possible advantage of what we have to offer, regardless of their physical limitations. 4. Provide secure spaces in the Cret building for the Folger s growing collection, guaranteeing that present and future generations can appreciate the depth, beauty, and cultural significance of that collection and of the other items in our care. 5. Invite visitors to explore the collections we display, and the cultural life they continue to inform, in spaces purposely designed to welcome the public for temporary and permanent exhibitions. 6. Give present and future researchers the best facilities we can provide for ambitious collaborative and individual work across the institution. 7. Give the Folger Institute a defined space that reflects our commitment to fund and lead scholarly research in the 21 st century. 8. Enhance Folger Theatre s facilities so that they advance our inclusive vision of what Shakespeare and the humanities have to offer, providing staff, performers, and visitors with the amenities they should expect. 9. Provide a growing and talented Folger staff with spaces that comfortably accommodate their individual and collaborative work, recognizing the decisive role they play in the mission of a great institution.
