5 european style made simple Belgian Shades Belgian Shades are meticulously detailed rather than overly embellished. Their transitional styling makes them an appropriate choice for formal or more relaxed interiors. DIZZ Belgian Shades are available in sizes up to 155 x 155. Shades up to 80 square feet can be made using our Elite clutch driven operating system that requires less than 1 ½ of mounting depth. This system allows designers and architects to use DIZZ shades to accommodate unique architectural features. A wide variety of automation options are also available. Our experienced dealers can help you with everything from a single shade with a hand held remote to incorporating our shades into the most advanced home automation systems. DIZZ Belgian Shades are manufactured at a state of the art facility in Tielt, Belgium. Shades are stitched never glued. Hem bar and batten pockets are side sewn but allow for bars to be removed. This technology allows DIZZ to line their sheer fabrics with a wide variety of different linings to create hundreds of different looks. A fabric that is listed with Height means the fabric is shown railroaded on the hanger and in the book. Shades made from these fabrics will have no visible vertical seams. For more details on vertical seams see the Seams section on page 21. Information about individual fabrics including, price category, fiber content, repeat, width and/or height information as well cleaning information can be easily found on the reverse side of the swatch in the book. 7 european style made simple The same information can also be found on the hanger tags. In addition, the hanger tags tell you about light fastness and shrinkage. In Europe, fabrics are rated on light fastness (a.k.a. color fastness) from 1 to 8, with 8 being the highest. The higher the light fastness the better a fabric retains its color over time when exposed to light. In other words, a higher light fastness rating means the fabric is less likely to fade in sunlight. All Dizz fabrics are rated 4 or higher, which is the standard for drapery fabric in Europe. However, customers who are using the fabric in a particularly sunny area should consider fabrics rated with a 5 or higher. In high humidity areas, particularly with inside mount shades, customers should consider using a fabric with 1% or <1% shrinkage rating. 10 european style made simple Fire Rated Fabrics Three (3) fabrics in the DIZZ collection have been tested and meet the requirements of NFPA 701-04, Test 1. The three fabrics are: Eritrea (Sheer) Romulus Remus (Woven Dim-out) PDF Copies of the NFPA 701 certificates are available by calling Customer Service or emailing info@belgianshade.com. Please note that Eritrea may be used as a lining for no additional surcharge compared to standard lining. (See page 11 for more information on linings.) Memo Samples Memo samples of all DIZZ fabrics offered in the US are stocked at our offices in Norwalk, CT. Memos are provided free of charge to authorized DIZZ dealers. Samples are approximately 8 ½ x 11. The most efficient way to order a memo sample is to email Customer Service at info@belgianshade.com. Memo sample requests received by 1:00 pm EST will usually ship the same day via UPS ground delivery. Next day UPS delivery is available on memo samples for a $15 surcharge. Please be sure to specify the fabric and color number for the memo sample you are requesting. We will send memo samples directly to the dealer address on file unless otherwise instructed.
11 european style made simple Lining Options DIZZ has over 100 lining options. Any solid colored LB price group fabric can be used as lining at no additional surcharge compared to our standard lining. One of our most popular lining fabrics is Good Night which is a woven dim-out fabric that blocks 95% of light and comes in 27 colors. Another popular fabric is Hermes which is room darkening and comes in 32 colors. Both Good Night and Hermes are 100% polyester. Any fabric in the DIZZ line may be ordered with lining, including the sheers. Lining sheers with different colors allows you to create a wide variety of effects as shown below with style Sparta. 12 european style made simple Size Information DIZZ Belgian Shades can be made in sizes up to 155 x 155. You may order in increments of 1/8. Inside/Outside Mount: If you are ordering an outside mount shade and want to reduce light leaking from around the edge, be sure to add an extra 4 to the window opening measurement (2 for each side). If you are ordering an inside mount shade, you should measure at the top, middle and bottom of the window and then enter the narrowest width. If you enter Inside under Mount, the factory will deduct ¼ from the width. Length: The finished length is from the top of the headrail to the bottom of the shade. The factory makes no deduction on length for inside mount. The minimum width for DIZZ Belgian Shades is 15 ¾ Please also note that the headrail size will vary with shade size. DIZZ Belgian Shades come with a 1 ¼ x 1 ¼ aluminum headrail clutch driven system, standard. Manual shades over 80 square feet will be on a 2 x 2 headrail system. 13 european style made simple Rear Batten / Front Batten DIZZ Belgian Shades are available as either rear batten (shown left) or front batten shades (shown right). Whether they are rear or front batten, DIZZ Belgian shades have rings sewn at every batten and the fabric folds between the battens as the shades are raised. 14 european style made simple Batten Spacing Unlike lower quality shades, the spacing between battens for DIZZ Belgian Shades is uniquely calculated for the specific length shade that you order. In general, the average batten spacing is 30 cm (or 11.8 ). When you order an unlined shade with a plain sheer fabric, the battens will be evenly spaced and the lift cords will be tied off at the hem bar as shown below. 15 european style made simple When you order a lined shade or a shade with a solid or decorative fabric, the battens will be evenly spaced except for the bottom section (which will be ½ the size of the other sections) and the lift cords will be tied off at the lowest batten rather than the hem bar. This sewing technique is referred to as the sun protective flap. It prevents the face of the fabric from ever facing towards the window, and thereby helps reduce the chance of uneven fading on the front. Note that matching battens between shades of different lengths may not be possible when using a sun protective flap. Specifically, the bottom batten may not line up. 16 european style made simple Matching Battens When there are multiple shades in the same room that have varying lengths, you have the option of noting that you would like the battens to match from the top of the shade down. Indicate on your order which lines you would like to have match. When you receive the shades, the batten spacing will match from the top down. Different length shades with matching battens Please note that matching battens may have an effect on the size of the sun protective flap. 17 european style made simple Custom Batten Spacing When ordering unlined shades made in sheer fabrics you may specify where you want the battens to be placed to match up with architectural features (e.g., the window mullions). Specify the distance from the top of the headrail for each batten. The first batten is the top-most batten. There is no surcharge for Custom Batten Spacing. This information is filled in at the bottom of the form by indicating the line number and the batten spacing. As an example, if you enter Line # 1 and then 12, 25, 32 the shade on Line # 1 will be made with three battens: the first 12, the second 25 and the third, 32 from the top of the headrail. 18 european style made simple Shade Stack The shade stack is the distance from the top of the headrail to the bottom of the shade when the shade is fully raised. Below is a chart that gives you the approximate shade stack based on the length you are ordering. The actual stack may vary and can change if you request matching battens or custom batten spacing. CPSC recommends the use of cordless shades in all homes where children live or visit. Even with the additional safety options, Belgian Shades are NOT cordless shades. Breakaway Rings (available 2012) Breakaway rings are 2 piece rings that are sewn in place of the normal rings on the lower 5 (60 ) of the shade. Regular rings are used for the rest of the shade (which would normally be out of a child s reach). This reduces the chance that a ring would accidentally break away at a place that could not be easily reached to reattach the ring. Shades under 60 long ordered with breakaway rings will have breakaway rings the entire length of the shade. The rings are designed to break away at approximately 3 pounds of force. Rings are sewn on the lower 5 (60 ) of the shade Close up of ring in normal engaged position Ring that has broken away. 20 european style made simple Shroud System The shroud system uses a shroud that is attached at every ring. The lift cords pass though the shroud. The maximum batten spacing for shades made with the shroud system is 7.5 (approximately 60% of our normal batten spacing). The shroud reduces the chance that a hazardous loop can form. 21 european style made simple Seams All DIZZ fabrics are 110 wide or wider. Many of the fabrics can be railroaded (or turned) so that there are no vertical seams. A fabric that is listed by Height means the fabric is shown railroaded on the hanger and in the book. Shades made from these fabrics will have no visible vertical seams. For the fabrics that cannot be railroaded, when you order a shade that is wider than the fabric width less 6, there will be vertical seams. If you select a 110 wide fabric, (e.g. Hermes ) any shade over 104 wide will have seams. The standard method of seaming is to have a large center panel and 2 side panels. The side seams have to be a minimum of 5 ½ in from the edge of the shade. Seams can be no closer than 5 ½ from the edge 5 ½ You can specify where you would like the seams to be placed, as long as they are no closer than 5 ½ to the edge of the shade. Some customers, when putting shades side by side, may not want right and left seams. You can indicate no seam on one side and specify the distance on the other to create this look.
22 european style made simple You can also specify seam placement so that the seams line up with the mullions in the window, or any other architectural feature. Seams - Lining Most lining fabrics can be turned so that there are no visible seams in the lining. The main exception is when you select either styles Hermes or Good Night as lining. Shades over 104 wide that are lined with Good Night or Hermes will have visible, vertical seams in the lining. When selecting Good Night or Hermes as lining with a face fabric that will also have visible seams (a Width or W fabric), the lining seam will be hidden behind one of the face fabric seams. When selecting Good Night or Hermes lining with a face fabric that has no visible vertical seams (a Height or H fabric) the lining seam will be in the middle. Alternatively, you may specify where you would like the lining seam(s) to be just as you can with a face fabric.

This system incorporates an internal gear box that allows shades to lift easily. Shades under 15 square feet can be ordered without a gearbox for faster raising and lowering. 25 european style made simple Control Side Please indicate whether you want the control chain on the left or the right side. If no indication is made, the control will be on the right. For motorized shades, the control side indicates which side the motor, and therefore the wire for power, will be on the shade. Chain Colors (Manual System) With the 1 Elite System you may choose from plastic chains in transparent, white, grey or black or metal chains in silver, grey, matte gold or messing (brass). The 2 Maxi System is only offered with metal chains (silver, grey, matte gold or brass). 26 european style made simple Tension Device The Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) advises consumers that children can become entangled in and possibly strangle themselves on control chain loops. To help prevent these accidents we provide tension devices attached at the factory that will partially prevent the roller shade from operating unless it is attached to the wall or sill. The devices will work with both inside mount and outside mount applications. The tension device is installed on the chain at the factory and will not allow the shade to fully operate unless it is installed Device comes in clear only.
27 european style made simple Motorized System (Dimensions / Specifications) Motorized shades come in an enclosed aluminum headrail and use a Somfy LS40RTS motor with integrated radio receiver. The system comes with a 16 wire exiting from either the the left or the right side (Please specify which side under Control Side ). The system can easily lift our largest shade (155 x 155 ). The system operates on 115 volts and requires 1 amp. As the system is controlled by an integrated radio receiver, no special wiring is required, only a power source. See next page for remote control options. We can also provide a Lutron QED 64 motor in this headrail. Please contact us for control details and lifting capacity if your project requires Lutron motorization. The bracketing system allows the shade to be mounted on either the wall or the ceiling.
28 european style made simple Remote Control Options (Motorized) The Telis hand held remote from Somfy comes in two versions, the Telis 1 and the Telis 4. The Telis 1 has one channel and will control a single shade or a group of shades simultaneously. If the Telis 1 is used to control multiple shades in a group, you cannot operate the shades individually. The Telis 4 has 5 channels and will control up to 4 shades individually with one group channel that allows you to control all the shades simultaneously. Both the Telis 1 and the Telis 4 are available in 3 colors, Pure (white with grey buttons), Silver and Lounge (Black). The switch is mounted to the wall and is operated by an extended life lithium battery (included with the remote) and therefore requires no wiring. Shades are radio frequency controlled. The Decoflex switches come in 1 button and 5 button models. The 5 button model allows you to control up to 5 shades or groups of shades individually.
