All commercial pesticide applicators, municipal parks and golf course technicians and lawn and turf care professionals should attend the Symposium. IPM (Integrated Pest Management) is an initiative by lawn care professionals that is providing a healthier, safer way of treating pest problems. The IPM approach focuses on plant health care and prevention and management of pests in a safe and effective manner. IPM emphasizes pest prevention, reduced risk products, and the application of pesticides only when necessary. Net proceeds from the Symposium are donated directly to IPM research. 2008 IPM Symposium Speakers Pam Charbonneau is a turfgrass specialist in the Crop Technology Branch of the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA). She keeps in constant touch with the industry through participation in seminars, committees and organizations. Pam is an Honourary Member of Landscape Ontario. Geoff Cutten, a graduate of the University of Guelph, joined the Ontario Ministry of the Environment in 1979 and now holds the position of Senior Pesticides Regulatory Scientist with the Ministry s Pesticides Section, Standards Development Branch in Toronto. Paul Gray is a senior program advisor in the Planning and Research Section of the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources in Peterborough. Nathan Helder After graduating from the University of Guelph, Nathan worked in the dairy industry. Recently, he was appointed president/ceo of Jan Gelderman Landscaping in Waterdown. Nathan also recently became the chair of Landscape Ontario s Environmental Stewardship Committee. Crystal Lafrance has worked with the Ministry of the Environment as the regional pesticide specialist for the past three years. Previously, she completed her four-year degree in Biology, Ecology and Evolution at the University of Western Ontario. She inspects pesticide operators, vendors and exterminators and can be a resource for your legislative pesticide needs. Jennifer Llewellyn had been a nursery crop specialist with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) since May 1999. She is involved with the growing industry through participation in seminars, speaking engagements and committees. Scott Olan is a pesticide specialist for the Eastern Region of the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and is based in Kingston. Dan Panko is a pesticide specialist for the Central Region of the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and is based in Toronto. Dr. Mark Sears is a professor in the Department of Environmental Biology at the University of Guelph. One of his specialty areas is the biology and control of insect pests in field crops. Dr. Gerald Stephenson is a professor in the Department of Environmental Biology at the University of Guelph. He is an author of several books and has contributed to books related to topics such as pesticide biochemistry, pesticides and human health and pest management in agricultural, forestry and landscape environments. Net proceeds are donated directly to IPM research.
