A. Adjacent Surface Protection: Protect adjacent work areas and finish surfaces from damage during product installation. B. Surface Preparation: 1. Surface Fixtures: Remove switch plates, wall plates and surface mounted fixtures in areas where wallcovering is to be applied. 2. Cleaning: Clean substrates of dust, dirt, stains, oil coatings, water based paints or other compounds preventing adhesive bond or impairing performance of installed wallcovering materials. 3. Mildew: Remove mildew and treat wall surface with mildew growth inhibitor recommended by manufacturer. 4. Moisture Content: Test substrate with electronic moisture meter to verify surface to be covered does not exceed a moisture content of 5%. 5. Stains: Do not install wallcovering over oil based wood stains or felt tip pen markings without proper substrate preparation recommended by wallcovering manufacturer. 6. New Plaster: Age new plaster 30 days minimum before installing wallcovering. Plaster substrate shall be smooth and free from surface chalk and shall not have more than 5% moisture content. 7. New Wallboard (Drywall): Wipe new wallboard (drywall) with damp cloth to remove sanding dust. Nails, screws and joint depressions shall be taped and spackled to a smooth finish. Seal non-rustproof nails and screws to prevent bleed-through. Wallboard substrates shall not have more than 5% moisture content. 8. Other Porous Surface: Surface shall be clean, dry, smooth and structurally sound. Use an allpurpose cleaner to remove dirt, grease and wax. If a painted surface is found to be unsound, remove paint from surface. Repair cracks and holes. 9. Nonporous Surfaces: Plastic, glass, plastic laminate, ceramic tile, baked enamel, paneling, cement block or glossy paint and other nonporous surfaces shall be primed with primer specially formulated for difficult-to-bond surfaces to maximize initial tack and final bond strength of wallcovering adhesive. If a painted surface is found to be unsound, remove paint. Repair cracks and holes. Surfaces shall be rendered free of joints, cracks, holes and rough edges to offer a smooth surface for wallcovering installation. 10. Renovation of Other Wallcoverings: Remove old wallpaper or vinyl wallcovering and old adhesive. Verify wall surface after removal to determine substrates are structurally sound, clean and dry. Surface shall be free of holes and rough edges to offer a smooth surface for wallcovering installation. Old Plaster: Verify condition of old plaster walls for possible delamination. Remove unsound plaster and replaster to smooth finish. Sand lightly and verify moisture content as with new plaster. C. Substrate Priming: Prime wall substrate with prewallcovering primer that is compatible with adhesive. 1.17 INSTALLATION OF GLASS FIBER WALLCOVERING A. Material Inspection: Inspect each roll of wallcovering material. Verify pattern match with approved samples. Inspect for material defects before cutting. B. Installation: Using a dry hand method, place panels consecutively in the order cut from rolls, including filling spaces above or below openings. Apply each panel so outside of rolled material faces out as material is hung. Length may be pre-cut. Page 5 of 7

1. Substrate: Verify primed substrates are fully dry prior to application of adhesive and installation of wallcovering. 2. Adhesive: Wallcovering is recommended to be installed using a dry hand method by applying adhesive evenly to wall with roller, spray or brush, with no gaps or bare spots. Do not apply more adhesive in each application than will be covered by 1 or 2 lengths of wallcovering. Prevent dry spots and insufficient adhesion. 3. Wallcovering Application: Apply wallcovering to wall substrate, with outside of roll facing out and vertical yellow line towards the wall and DO NOT REVERSE HANG the sheets. (1) Set first wallcovering sheet. Ensure sheet is plumb. Eliminate air pockets and secure wallcovering to wall surface with plastic broad knife. Work from center of strip toward edges. Do not overwork material. (2) Seams: Butt join sections and match pattern of texture at eye level between panels and across seams of wallcovering materials to ensure tight, straight closure. DO NOT USE A SEAM ROLLER. Wallcovering products may be double cut or other patterns may be double cut where edges appear rough or bolt has been damaged to ensure tight, straight closure. Horizontal seams are not acceptable. (3) Remove excess adhesive along finished seam immediately after wallcovering strip is applied. Use damp, but not wet, sponge. Avoid getting adhesive on face of wallcovering. 4. Bonding: Install wallcovering with sound bond of material to substrate. 5. Trimming: When possible, install material prior to installation of plumbing, fixtures, trim, cabinets and other finish operations. Trim wallcovering evenly to edges of wall penetrations, outlet boxes, reveals, adjacent door and window frames and moldings. Trim seams and other straight cuts using a straight edge. Perform cutting work on a cutting table when possible. When wall cutting procedures are required, perform cutting without scoring, perforating or otherwise damaging substrate. Use fresh blade for each cut. C. Appearance Before Painting: Wallcovering shall be smooth, clean and free of wrinkles, gaps, overlaps and other defects. Raising and puckering at seams, bubbles, blisters, telegraphing of adhesive spreader marks and other surface imperfections are not acceptable. Cut edges of wallcovering visible around cover plates or trim are not acceptable. Redo and replace defective installation. 1.18 PAINTING AND FINISHING OF GLASS FIBER WALLCOVERING A. Manufacturer s Instructions: Comply with combined instructions of wallcovering manufacturer and paint manufacturer for painting and finishing of wallcovering. 1. Allow installed wallcovering material to dry at room temperature prior to painting in accordance with paint manufacturer s dryness and temperature requirements. B. Priming and Painting: On unprimed textures, apply 1 coat of primer with 3/4" - 1" (19.1-25.4 mm) roller nap cover to cover wallcovering material thoroughly without gaps or bare spots and allow to dry. If primer is sprayed on, back roll primer into wallcovering. After primer is dry, apply 1 coat of finish paint to produce uniform final color of even coverage, thickness and intensity. For preprimed textures, proceed to apply finish coat (s) of paint. C. Reinstall fixtures: Upon completion of wallcovering installation in each space or area, reinstall fixtures, plates and similar items, which had been removed. Verify cut edges of wallcovering are concealed. D. Finish Appearance: Finished wallcovering shall be smooth, clean of uniform color, finish and appearance and free of wrinkles, gaps, overlaps, bare spots, holidays, roller marks, uncoated areas and other defects. Redo or replace defective installation. Page 6 of 7
