Table 34- Bowman s Woods East 34 Bowman s Woods East General Description This area is an extension of Bowman s Woods (West), north of Sherk Rd and east of Willoughby Drive. Boyer s Creek runs diagonally across the property from southwest to northeast. As with Bowman s Woods (East), the property is divided into a large number of rectangles, some of which are owned by the city. This survey did not try to distinguish between these rectangular parcels, but treated the entire property as two polygons. Although described as the Bowman s Woods (East), the Archery Club does not operate in this area east of Willoughby Drive. Polygon 1 Polygon 2 The area west of Boyer s Creek consists primarily of dense shrub vegetation with an open canopy of young scattered trees. The species are similar to those in Bowman s Woods West, except that the vegetation is younger. The density of the shrub vegetation makes access difficult except along a trail running north from Sherk Rd. near the creek. A number of active hunting blinds exist along this trail system. In one location along Willoughby Rd., rubber tires and other refuse has been dumped. The area east of Boyer s Creek contains an extensive system of trails. Recommendations 1. Removal of garbage/debris 2. To raise awareness of the woodland features and functions, and inform users of appropriate uses signage should be put on site. The signage should be installed near a main trail or access point to the woodland. 3. A formal marked trail is to be established and excess or environmentally harming trails shall be closed. 4. Remove invasive species. After removal of invasive species has occurred, monitoring is necessary to ensure that these plants do not re-establish themselves. The techniques used for the removals shall be tailored to the invasive species being removed and be in accordance with industry standards.
