Bryce Jacob Dave Fox Remodeling, Inc. Bob Quayle Clear Choice Building & Renovations Craig Sedoris More Time for You Ivan White, CR White House Remodelers Executive Director Shari Bates I hope everyone is enjoying this relatively mild winter (so far). For many of us this has been a good time to reflect on 2005 and make adjustments and solid plans for the upcoming year. I think you will find that the board and staff at NARI have been busy putting together an active slate of events and goals for 2006. As always we will have our monthly meetings with a focus this year on letting the membership learn more about each other s business. We will have the majority of the meetings hosted by NARI companies at their showrooms and places of business. February s meeting will be on the 16 th @ Décor Blvd. If you haven t seen this beautiful showroom you really should make it to this meeting. Several of our members have their products on display here. It s a great opportunity to get a better idea of exactly what choices consumers have in the marketplace. Also coming up at the end of the month will be the real start of Spring in Columbus, The Dispatch Home & Garden Show opening February 25 th. Even if you don t have a booth at this show please consider helping out to staff the NARI desk in our own center section. We plan on offering a complimentary remodeling consultation for consumers as well as promoting our free referral service for home owners. Please contact Shari if you would be willing to assist in covering a three hour shift. As you know this show is a tremendous venue for promoting NARI and communicating how important it is to choose a professional for any home improvement. We are beginning to put the Fall Home Improvement Showcase (tour of newly remodeled homes) together. It s not too early to think about any projects you might want to feature in this event. I m sure the committee would also appreciate any help in planning this show as well. Please contact Shari or Linda Davis of Modlich Stoneworks who is the committee chairperson. Speaking of committees, we have many opportunities for involvement with NARI and the best way to get involved is to help on a committee. This is where the bulk of the work gets done and the best way to get to know people. My experience in NARI has taught me that you will get more out of your involvement the more you put into it. We can still use help with the Membership, Golf Outing and Awards groups. If you would like to help with these or have another talent to share please contact Shari. We also will be continuing our monthly series of breakfast roundtables. These are informal meetings with a pre-selected topic that have really been received well. Many attendees have told me how great it is to sit down and have a frank business conversation with folks who deal with the same issues as you every day. Events like these are where we can really help one another. Please keep sharing your ideas on where NARI can still improve. The roundtables came about from a conversation I was having with Patty Cottone Borg, CR. Leadership is service so let me know how NARI can be of service to you and your business. Let s all do our best to keep moving the organization towards the ultimate goal where homeowners will insist on doing business with NARI members. Page 7 NARI & Rebuilding Together (formerly Christmas in April) NARI of Central Ohio has identified a community partner in Rebuilding Together. Their mission and goals are reflective in our own mission to the community. With this kind of partnership our community service efforts can go that much further. You can choose your level of involvement. You can choose to use your knowledge and experience rather than just your muscle. Take a look at the following opportunities: NARI members may volunteer to lead a skill team of volunteers in a project during one of our Rebuild Days. This is especially rewarding in that Members will work with sponsoring teams gaining exposure. Rebuilding Together volunteers learn on the job training. NARI contractors may commit to providing skilled labor for small projects where Rebuilding Together Columbus provides for logistics and materials NARI may work with Rebuilding Together Columbus and Lowe s to provide educational opportunities for Rebuilding Together Columbus volunteers. Rebuilding together is looking for skilled NARI contractors to provide short training sessions one Saturday in late March or early April. We will focus on repairs that are relevant to the volunteers and keep to a realistic time of commitment 2-3 hours. NARI will support the event by: Identifying volunteers to present useful sessions for Rebuilding Together volunteers Having Presenters prepared and keeping to the schedule. Provide safety instructions as part of demonstrations Here are some topic suggestions- Replacing toilets and their guts including reseating a toilet Installing a door bell Replacing a regular light switch with a tap switch Installing a grab bar correctly Repairing plaster/drywall Installing a drop ceiling Installing a doorset - especially in a door that is not pre-drilled Replacing a door or a window Repairing roofing and gutters If you would be willing to commit a few hours, or a day of your time to this very worthwhile cause, please contact the NARI office and let us know your level of involvement. For more details you may contact our President, Mike Lange who has been involved with the organization for 4 years. Mike s cell is 614-551-0129.
