Standardised safety instructions for electrical products When using any electrical appliance, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including: This appliance can be used by children aged from 8 years and above and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards involved. Children shall not play with the appliance. Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children unless they are older than 8 and supervised. Keep the appliance and its cord out of reach of children less than 8 years old. Always ensure the voltage on the rating label corresponds to the voltage in your home. Check the power cord and plug regularly for any damage. If the cord or the plug is damaged, it must be replaced by a qualified electrician or a service repair centre. If in doubt please contact our customer service team. The appliance is intended for domestic use only. Industrial or commercial use will void the warranty. The supplier cannot be held responsible for injury or damage if the appliance has been used for anything other than its intended use. Incorrect operation and use can damage the appliance and cause injury to the user. Do not use the appliance if it has been dropped or damaged in any way. If the unit has been damaged take the unit for examination and or repair by an authorised service agent. Do not immerse or expose the motor assembly, plug or the power cord in water or any other liquid for any reason. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or by someone who is suitably qualified to avoid a potential hazard. Do not let the cord hang over the edge of a table or counter. Ensure that the cord is not in a position where it can be pulled or tripped over accidentally. Do not allow the cord to touch hot surfaces and do not place the cord near hot gas, electric burners or in a heated oven. Use of an extension cord with this appliance is not recommended. However if it is necessary to use an extension cord, ensure that the extension cord is equal to or greater than the power consumption of the appliance to avoid overheating of the appliance and extension cord. Do not use any other appliance on the extension cord. Do not place the extension cord in a position where it can be pulled on by children or animals or be tripped over. Always operate the appliance on a smooth, even and stable surface. Do not place the unit on a hot surface. Always remove the plug of the appliance safely. Do not pull on the appliances cord to remove the appliance plug from the electrical socket. 3

Never handle or operate the appliance with wet hands. Under no circumstances is this product to be hard wired into an electrical ring main. Do not touch the hot plates, use the appliance handles. Safety at work Keep the work area clean and well lit at all times, cluttered or dark areas present a safety hazard. Do not operate the appliance in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes. Ensure that bystanders and children are kept away from the work area while using the appliance. Electrical safety Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn the appliance on and off. If the appliance cannot be controlled with the switch it is dangerous and must be repaired. Before carrying out any maintenances, repairs, changing accessories or storing the power tool disconnect it from the electrical supply. 4

Directions for use To switch on the appliance, push both the rear switch and the front switch in at the same time. If, for any reason, either one becomes disengaged the appliance with stop working. Please note, the small flash by the ventilation area is normal and does not indicate a problem. Using the appliance When trimming a hedge, first cut the sides from the bottom to the top. Cut the upper part giving it the shape you prefer. The lever guide will help you control the blade in a horizontal action. The safety blade has laterally rounded and staggered cutting teeth to reduce the danger of injury. The additional shock protection avoids inconvenient kickback when the blades come into contact with walls and fences. If the blades are jammed or blocked by obstacles, switch the motor off immediately, remove the plug from the electrical supply and remove the object from the jamming blades. Obstacles such as metal fences may damage the cutting blades. When using the appliance keep the extension cord behind yourself and plan the direction you are cutting the hedge. Maintenance, cleaning and storage Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tools or these instructions to operate the power tool. Check for misalignment, binding or moving parts, broken parts and any other conditions that may affect the performance of the power tools. If damaged have the power tools repaired before use. Only use original spare parts and accessories recommended by the manufacturer. 5

Have your power tools serviced by a qualified person. Clean the main body with a damp wet cloth, drying thoroughly before storage. Always store the appliance with the blade cover attached. Store the appliance in a dry place out of the reach of children. After each use, clean the cutting blade with a soft brush and cloth using lubricating fluid oil. After cleaning, spray a thin layer of fluid protective oil. Clean the motor housing with a moist cloth and never use detergents or solvents. 6

Appliance specific safety Keep your body away from the cutter blades at all times. Do not remove cut material or hold material to be cut when the blades are moving. When clearing jammed material always turn the appliance off and unplug it from the mains supply. Carry the hedge trimmer by its handles at all times. Switch the appliance off. When transporting or storing the hedge trimmer always fit the blade cover. Always keep the cable away from the cutting area. When the appliance is unattended, maintenance is being carried out, cleaning, blade oiling or when the blades are blocked, always switch the appliance off at the mains. Always make sure the hand guard is mounted on the machine when using the hedge trimmer. Never remove any of its components and never use a damaged or incomplete machine. Never modify any parts or the machine, components or tamper with the original trimmer arrangement in anyway. Only use splash proof extension cords approved for outdoor use and marked accordingly. Before using the hedge trimmer examine the appliance, cord and plug. If any components are worn or damaged, have them checked, repaired or replaced by an authorised service centre.
