ISIA MinimumStandard for Safety 2.2. Safety on and off-piste The candidate must be able to assess winter and mountain hazards (weather, avalanches and terrain) correctly, respond and behave appropriately, and be able to take immediate action in the event of an accident. The candidate will be familiar with and able to implement FIS rules. (ISIA performance level 2) 10

ISIA MinimumStandard for Safety 3.2. ISIA test safety The candidate will be able to plan and undertake off-piste runs with guests (not glacier or rock runs) independently. S/he will be familiar with the necessary equipment (compass, altimeters, geographic maps, avalanche transceivers, probe poles etc.) and methods for analysing the avalanche situation, and will be able to draw the necessary conclusions. S/he will be able to read, understand and interpret avalanche bulletins and weather forecasts. In the event of an accident, s/he will be able to respond immediately, coordinate the rescue and provide first aid. (ISIA performance level 3) 11

ISIA Stamp outcomes Instructors have the skills enabling them to lead off piste, inside the boundaries of an organised ski area (excluding glaciers), meaning the area served by lifts, and where it is possible to be back on piste directly, at any moment, with no need for other equipment, and where patrollers can easy intervene with an akia sledge; lead on marked ski itineraries. NB: ALWAYS INSIDE THE LIMITS IMPOSED BY THE LOCAL LAWS! 21

ISIA Card outcomes Instructors have the skills enabling them to lead ski tours anywhere in the mountains on nonglacial terrain not involving the use of ice axe, crampons, rope or overnight stays. organise and lead rescue operations in case of need. NB: ALWAYS INSIDE THE LIMITS IMPOSED BY THE LOCAL LAWS! 22
