Check with Campus Directr (r persn in charge) wh will take a head cunt frm the instructrs. Wait fr instructins frm emergency respnse persnnel. D nt re-enter the building until tld it is safe t d s. Safe Area Lcatin The safe area fr the staff and students is designated as: Medical Educatin Building: Back Entrance: Instructrs will lead students acrss the street t the sidewalk n 7th Street. Using the Attendance rster, the directr will take a head cunt frm the instructrs and further instructins will be given at this time. Medical Educatin Building Frnt Entrance (Harrisn Street): Instructrs will lead students t the sidewalk acrss the street n Harrisn Street. Using the Attendance rster, the directr will take a head cunt frm the instructrs and further instructins will be given at this time. Administratin Building: Frnt Entrance: Campus Directr will lead all staff thrugh the frnt entrance t the sidewalk, then walking twards and crssing 7 th Street. HVAC Building: Frnt Entrance: Instructrs will lead students ut the frnt entrance dr t the sidewalk, then walking twards and crssing 7 th Street. Planned Evacuatin Rute CLASSROOMS and LABS fr Instructrs and students. Faculty and students will fllw a planned evacuatin rute when exiting the building. That rute will be frm the classrm and lab area thrugh the hallway and ut the student entrance dr n Harrisn Street. If that area is blcked by fire, students and faculty will exit thrugh the back dr, turn left and cntinue acrss the street n the ppsite side. At this time, using the Attendance rster, the directr will take a head cunt frm the instructrs and further instructins will be given. ADMINISTRATIVE BUILDING Frnt Office. Administrative staff, visitrs and students wh are meeting with administrative staff will meet in the frnt administrative ffice area and be taken, by the directr, t the sidewalk acrss the street n Mercer Street. HVAC BUILDING Faculty and students will fllw a planned evacuatin rute when exiting the building. That rute will be frm the classrm and lab area thrugh the hallway and ut the frnt entrance dr n Mercer Street and 4
cntinue twards 7 th Street. If the frnt entrance area is blcked by fire, students and faculty will exit thrugh the back dr and crss Harrisn Street. At this time, using the Attendance rster, the directr will take a head cunt frm the instructrs and further instructins will be given. ALL EVACUATION ROUTES ARE CLEARLY POSTED AND MARKED BY EXIT SIGNS THROUGHOUT THE BUILDING. Building Safety Systems The Administrative building lcated at 617 Mercer Street and the Academics building lcated at 616 Harrisn Street have the fllwing safety systems: Alarms: Fire alarms are lcated in bth Administrative and Academic buildings. Smke Detectrs: There are 25 lcated thrughut the campus in designated areas. Fire Extinguishers: Administrative Building: 1 in the frnt lbby by the dr. 1 by the frnt Fire dr. 1 by the back dr. 1 lcated in the Lab rm (by the sink). Fire Extinguishers: Academic Building: 1 in the frnt lbby by the dr n Harrisn Street. 1 by the frnt Fire dr. 1 by the back dr. 1 lcated in the kitchen area. 1 lcated in the Teacher break rm. Manual Alarm pull statins: Academic Building (Harrisn Street) 1 lcated beside the dr at the frnt entrance/exit. 1 lcated beside the back entrance/exit dr. 1 lcated beside the frnt Fire dr (Harrisn Street). First Aid Kits: First aid kits are available in the administrative ffice area and in the Break Rm n the wall in the Academic Building. Fire Drs: Academic Building (Harrisn Street): 1 lcated in the Student Break Rm. Evacuatin Persnnel The fllwing staff will serve as evacuatin persnnel. Emergency Annuncer: Campus Directr r staff member left in charge by the Executive Directr. Annuncer will annunce any disasters t all areas f the building. 5
Evacuatin Warden: Gerge Campbell Alternate Warden: Elizabeth Prajapati Wardens will: Supervise evacuatin prcedure Check with searchers t get an all clear reprt r find ut any prblems. Reprt t the Cmmand Center if areas were unsearched due t lack f persnnel. Ensure that all peple frm the area prceed t the designated meeting place t check in and wait fr all clear which will cme frm the Cmmand Center. Reprt any prblems t the Cmmand Center. The Cmmand Center will be the Fire Department. Searcher: Elizabeth Prajapati, Directr f Academic Affairs- MCA Building Searcher: Diana Cx-Bth, Admissins Representative- Administrative Building Searcher: Jim Caskey, Lead HVAC instructr- HVAC Building Searchers will: Check all rms including restrms, cnference rms, and remte areas, clsing all drs behind them. They will advise remaining emplyees r ther persns n the flr abut the emergency and the requirement t evacuate. When the area is clear they will prceed ut f the building. Date f Last Evacuatin Drill The last evacuatin drill at the Princetn Campus f Valley Cllege was held n 10/08/14. The next evacuatin drill is scheduled fr September 17, 2015. Campus Wide Evacuatin Drills are t be held at least every six mnths. Infrmatin regarding evacuatin shuld be discussed during every Orientatin. Discussed n Orientatin: 1/30/15-3/09/15 Discussed at Step-up Ceremny: 2/08/15, 3/18/15. Actual Drill: 9/17/15 (5 minutes and 13 secnds) Evacuatin Persnnel Duties: Designated evacuatin persnnel duties with alternates per area. If there are nt enugh persnnel t fill all the rles, rles may be dubled where apprpriate. N funds have been prvided fr vests r armbands. A flashlight will be prvided in case f pwer failure. Evacuatin Persnnel shuld never be placed in imminent danger. Evacuatin Annuncer Duties: (Campus Directr) Annunce any disasters t all areas. Alternate Evacuatin Warden Duties: (Elizabeth Prajapati) Takes the place f the Evacuatin Warden if the Evacuatin Warden is nt present at the time f the event If the Evacuatin Warden is present, the Alternate Evacuatin Warden will assist the Evacuatin Warden as needed. Searchers: Areas shuld be searchable in 3 minutes r less. Check all rms including restrms, cnference rms and remte areas, clsing all drs behind them. Advise if any remaining emplyees, r ther persns n the flr abut the emergency and the requirement t evacuate. When the area is clear, prceed ut f the building. Fire Emergency Plan (Discussed at every Orientatin) If yu discver fire r see smke d nt panic. Call 911 and prceed with the fllwing: RACE Remve/Relcate individuals away frm danger; if pssible withut endangering yur safety. Activate Alarm: Call 911 Cnfine/Cntain fire and smke by clsing drs and windws. Extinguish fire nly if trained and fire is small by using the nearest fire extinguisher. Instructrs shuld lead students t the designated safe areas. Instructrs shuld take the Attendance rster with them. Instructrs shuld take attendance nce at the safe area and reprt t the Evacuatin Warden. D Nt Re-Enter the Building until the ALL CLEAR is issued by the FIRE DEPARTMENT 7
Severe Weather Plan (Discussed at every Orientatin) Severe weather includes trnads, severe thunderstrms, vilent snw strms, and flding. Trnads/Severe Thunderstrm Watch: If a trnad r severe thunderstrm watch has been issued in an area that includes the campus: Mnitr lcal emergency alert weather statins r the Natinal Weather Service. Faulty and staff shuld be alerted t infrm students f building s safe areas and be ready t relcate t thse areas in case the Watch is upgraded t a Warning. Definitin f a Watch: A severe thunderstrm r trnad watch is issued by the Natinal Weather Service when the weather cnditins are such that a severe thunderstrm, a trnad, r bth, are mre likely t develp and yu shuld be prepared t mve t a designated safe area. Definitin f a Warning: A severe thunderstrm r trnad warning is issued by the Natinal Weather Service when a thunderstrm r trnad has been sighted r indicated by weather radar. At this pint the danger is very serius and yu shuld mve t a designated safe area. If a trnad r a severe thunderstrm WARNING has been issued in the area that includes the campus: Mve students and staff t safe areas IMMEDIATELY. Clse classrm, labratry, and ffice drs. Instructrs shuld take the attendance rster t the safe areas with them. Remain in safe area until warning expires r until the all clear has been issued. Schl Clsings and delays will be decided by the Executive Directr and Campus Directrs. Annuncements f such will be made n WVVA and WVNS and als by radi n 104.5 and 99.5. Students will be cntacted by SMS (CampusVue) messaging. A phne tree has been established if calls need t be made t staff in emergency situatins. Carrie Kennedy will call/text the admissins reps and financial aid rep. Elizabeth Prajapati will call/text the instructrs and the Academic Administrative Aide. Gerge Campbell will call/text the enrllment crdinatr, the Directr f First Impressins and the Placement Directr. Safe Area Lcatin Classrm C is the designated safe area lcatin. 8
Hstage/Intruder Situatin Plan (Discussed in Step-up meeting 1/08/15) If an intruder enters a classrm r enclsed area with a weapn and threatens t sht r injure persns the fllwing guidelines shuld be fllwed: Respnsibilities: Campus Directr/Designee Immediately ntify plice (911) Initiate Actin Secure Building Lck dwn building and d nt let any students that are nt in class enter the building. Alert all rms f the event. Instructrs will lck classrm drs. If the Campus Directr is nt present, ntify the Campus Directr f the situatin. Mnitr hstage situatin the best yu can withut ding anything t exacerbate it. Fllw instructins f law enfrcement fficials wh will take ver when they arrive n site. Staff Remain calm. Talk with the individual in a lw-key, nn-threatening manner. D nt argue with r antagnize the individual in any way. Keep yur distance. Give the intruder ample persnal space. D nt attempt t deceive r threaten the intruder. D nt buy int the delusins f the intruder. Suggest marching the students r staff quietly ut the back dr. Back ff if this apprach angers the intruder. Be cnstantly alert and prepared fr vilence. Initiate Actin Duck, Cver and Hld if the intruder pens fire. DUCK dwn and take COVER under a sturdy desk r table and HOLD this psitin until the all clear is given. Nte: If the schl becmes invlved in a hstage situatin the primary cncern must be the safety f the students, staff, and faculty. Individuals wh take hstages are frequently emtinally disturbed and the key t dealing with them is t make every attempt t AVOID antagnizing them. Cmmunicatin must be handled in a nn-jking manner; always remembering that it may take very little t cause such persns t becme vilent. Campus Directr/Designee Infrm staff supervising students in the classrm t initiate Actin Duck, Cver & Hld. Immediately ntify plice by calling 911. If the Campus Directr is nt present, ntify the Campus Directr f the situatin. Wrk in crdinatin with supervisrs f law enfrcement until the situatin is reslved. Initiate student release prcedures and r evacuatin prcedures nly if it becmes necessary. Staff In classrms, maintain Actin Duck, Cver & Hld until the situatin is reslved. 9
