Principal s Message May 2017 May is here! That means that there are only two months left in the year, and they will be busy ones. There are many extra activities going on, such as field trips, track and field, and graduation. Please complete and return all permissions in a timely manner so that activities can run smoothly. Warmer weather also brings out spring and summer clothes. Some clothing is not appropriate for school wear. Our guidelines are as follows: No hats, hoods, bandanas or sunglasses are to be worn in the school except for special events No clothing or other items displaying inappropriate language or symbols, including references to alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs. No message which is gang-related, discriminatory or sexual in nature is permitted. Clothing should not be revealing. Shirts should cover the midriff. No strapless tops. No deeply-scooped armholes or necklines. Shorts and skirts should be a reasonable length. Undergarments should be covered. PVSD has commissioned a parent and guardian survey, and I encourage you to participate. We would like your ideas and feedback, and are hoping for good participation. There are only a couple of days left. The survey is anonymous and found at www.ourschool.net/broadview17. We have provided a couple of attachments to this newsletter. One is next year s calendar, indicating the days students attend school. The other is information from RQHR on when children should and shouldn t attend school. If you have any comments or questions, please contact the school at 306-696-2727. Doris Wyatt SCC Bike Rodeo Friday, May 12 Broadview School Community Council is hosting a Bike Rodeo in front of the School for Grades 1 to 6. Students will learn about bike safety and test their skills from 11am to 12:30 pm. Students need to bring their bikes and helmets. Free hotdog lunch thanks to Hometown Co-op, Broadview Kin Club & Broadview Bakery. 2017-18 Registration Forms Due by May 15, 2017 Please pick up a registration form for students entering Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten in the fall (if they are not already enrolled in our school). Anyone new to the area, please come in and register your children (of any age) for the fall as soon as possible.

Notes from Career Counsellor The school year is winding down and the Grade 12s are quickly going to enter the next phase of their lives. Some students will be transitioning to Post Secondary Options; these students should be registering for classes for the fall. For the students entering the workplace after graduation, this is a good time to spruce up their resume and start sending it out. If they need help with that I can be of assistance to them. Upcoming Events University of Regina May 5 and 6 Advising Sessions at the U of R University of Saskatchewan Class selection will not begin until end of June Saskatchewan Polytech Since most programs are First Qualified First Admitted it might be a time for students thinking about entering Post-Secondary in the fall of 2018 to apply to get the leg up on next year s Grade 12s. Some programs like Dental Assisting carry a year long wait so it is never a bad thing to apply early and get on the wait list. RDIEC Events Landscape Architecture May 16 th Powerline Technician May 17 th Regina Skills and Trades 12 to Trades program closes for registrations on May 5 th with the mandatory informational meeting on May 9 Student Paint Night for grades 4 and up will be held Thursday, May 4 th, 6pm @ the Broadview Centennial Lodge. It s always great to get our students to be a part of the greater community, so this month we decided to ask the residents if they would like to join us! The theme this month is eye catching. Stay tuned for another paint night in May to make up for April! Please sign up with Ms. Zuiker.
