If your cleaner is not picking up as well as it should, please check: Dust filter bags It is important to replace them when the dust filter bag indicator shows red, otherwise the performance of the cleaner will be impaired. Call our helpline for replacement dust filter bags. Filters It is important that the filters are cleaned regularly or replaced to allow air through the appliance. Blockages Check nozzles, tubes and hose and dust canister connector for blockages. Thermostat Blockages, dirty filters or use with a full dust bag may cause the safety thermostat to operate. Clear blockage, clean filters and replace bag. Allow 45 minutes for the thermostat to self-reset. Primarily there is danger of injury or death and secondly the danger of damage to the appliance. These are indicated in the text by the following two conventions: WARNING: Danger to the person! IMPORTANT: Damage to the appliance! In addition we offer the following safety advice. Location Do not use or keep this product outside. Do not store the appliance near hot surfaces, eg. ovens or heating appliances. Mains lead Do not allow the mains lead to become strained or run this appliance over it. If the electrical cable becomes damaged the cable assembly must be replaced. Do not attempt this task yourself, contact the helpline number that is found at the bottom of the page. Personal safety WARNING: Keep loose clothing, hair, fingers etc. away from the turbo nozzle during use. The plug must be removed from the wall socket before cleaning or maintaining the appliance. Never use in the presence of explosive liquid or vapours. Never pick up inflammable or poisonous liquids such as petrol, copier toner or other volatile substances. Never pick up acids, asbestos or asbestos dust. Never touch the plug or cable with wet hands. Unprofessional repairs can be dangerous for users. The appliance must never be left running unsupervised. This appliance is intended for domestic use only. Misuse or use for commercial or any other purpose will render the guarantee invalid. Always disconnect the appliance from the main supply after use or prior to emptying, cleaning or maintaining. To protect against fire, electric shock and personal injury do not immerse cord, plug or cleaner in water or other liquid. This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. Product safety Never use the appliance without the filters being installed. Never use the appliance to vacuum hot ashes, broken glass, sharp objects or liquids. Use only Morphy Richards spare parts and accessories. Never modify the cleaner in any way. Children Children do not understand the dangers associated with operating electrical appliances. Never allow children to use this appliance. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance. ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS Check that the voltage on the rating plate of your appliance corresponds with your house electricity supply which must be A.C. (Alternating Current). If the socket outlets in your home are not suitable for the plug supplied with this appliance the plug should be removed and the appropriate one fitted. If you cut off the plug and let go of the cable it will rewind into the machine, therefore you must pull out a length of cable and secure it before cutting the plug off and re-fitting a new one. WARNING: The plug removed from the mains lead, if severed, must be destroyed as a plug with a bared flexible cord is hazardous if engaged into a live socket outlet. 70255 rev1 12/9/07 09:49 Page 4 Mini turbo brush Ò This brush is suitable for cleaning pet hairs and stubborn dirt from stairs and upholstery. Pull the telescopic tube È off the handle A, then push the mini turbo brush directly onto the lower end of the handle B. Large turbo nozzle Û Use this nozzle for cleaning and rejuvenating cut pile carpets and picking up stubborn dirt and pet hairs. Remove the combination nozzle and attach the turbo nozzle Û to the telescopic tube È. Telescopic Tube Adjust the length of the telescopic tube. To do this, press the telescopic tube lock down. Then pull the telescopic tube by the handle to the desired length. To lock it, release the telescopic tube lock Ë when you let go. You will hear an audible click F. OPERATION Suction hose Push the end of the suction hose fl into the suction hose opening ˆ on the vacuum cleaner G. A È B È Ò C Cleaning the turbo brushes The turbo nozzle should be regularly cleaned and any hairs or fibres wrapped around the brush bar removed to maintain optimum performance. Tool storage When not in use, the furniture brush and crevice nozzle can be secured to the accessories mount on the carry handle C. Push the tools onto the mount and attach them so they click audibly and noticeably into place. The appropriate cleaning tool can be attached directly to the lower end of the handle, or the telescopic tube can be used between the suction hose and the tool H. Switching on Pull out the supply cable by holding the plug until the yellow mark is reached I. Plug the appliance into the mains supply. Push the on/off switch to start the motor. Turn the Eco Switch clockwise to the desired power. D Ù E ı Ò Ò The mini turbo brush can go in the recess in the dust chamber cover. Push the brush into the recess in the dust chamber cover D so that the opening on the brush housing hooks into the holder clips Ù. Then flip down the mini turbo brush E and press it into the recess in the dust chamber cover ı until it noticeably and audibly clicks into place. 70255 rev1 12/9/07 09:49 Page 5 Controlling suction power The Eco Switch allows you to turn down the power when cleaning more delicate items, such as curtains and upholstery, saving energy and reducing running costs. See table (right) for guideline settings. The suction power can also be adjusted using the fingertip control on the handle J. Closed: full suction Power setting Application Curtains and delicate fabrics Textiles and upholstery Open: reduced suction J open closed Floor coverings, such as rugs, economy setting for carpets Recommended settings Alter the power setting to suit the surface, see guide table (right). Carpets or hard floor coverings Overheating protection If the motor overheats, the cleaner will switch off automatically. If this occurs, press the on/off switch, disconnect from the mains supply and leave for 45 minutes to allow the motor to cool down. The likely causes of the cleaner overheating are: The nozzle or tubes are blocked The dustbag is full The motor protection filter is very dirty The exhaust filter is very dirty Check and rectify the problem before attempting to reuse the cleaner. IMPORTANT: Do not use your vacuum cleaner without the filters fitted. After Vacuum Cleaning / Switching off K Turn the motor off by pressing the button. Remove the plug from the mains supply and follow the Cable rewind procedure below. K Cable rewind K Switch off the appliance. Remove the plug from the mains supply and rewind the power cable using the cable rewind switch. WARNING: When using the cable rewind, always hold the plug as the cable will rewind quickly. 5

MAINTENANCE Changing the dust filter bag M Í Â Tube standby L During short breaks in cleaning, the tubes can be held in an upright, standby position, whilst you move furniture for instance. Hang the standby hook Î into the standby hook mount Â. IMPORTANT: Ensure that the appliance is never left unattended whilst switched on. If suction power is reduced or if the dust bag full indicator is permanently fully red, the dust filter bag needs changing. Also check whether the suction hose, tube or nozzle are blocked. Always switch off and unplug the appliance before changing any bags or filters. 1 Unlock and open the dust chamber cover by pressing the dust compartment release button Ó, then flip the cover up N. N STORAGE Tube stow-away M The vacuum cleaner can be stored in an upright position. Rotate the floor nozzle until the stow-away hook Í on the neck of the tube can be fitted into the stow-away hook mount on the base of the appliance. 2 Open the dust chamber cover until it noticeably clicks into place and remains open without having to be held. 3 Pull the dust filter bag up and out of the dust bag holder O. 4 Dispose of the dust filter bag with the normal domestic waste. O Always store the appliance in a cool and dry place. 5 Push the new dust filter bag into the dust bag holder, making sure it is fitted in the correct direction. 6 Close the dust chamber cover. It clicks audibly into place. 70255 rev1 12/9/07 09:49 Page 7 Changing filters P If the dust filter bag is defective, the motor protection filter prevents larger particles from destroying the motor. It is recommended that this filter is cleaned every time the dust filter bag is changed. Slide the filter holder upwards to remove. Take out the filter and shake over a dustbin. The filter may be washed in cool water, but must be fully dry before refitting. Cleaning and maintenance Unplug from the mains before cleaning. The vacuum cleaner and all accessories can be cleaned using a damp cloth or a non-abrasive domestic cleaner and wiped dry. To keep the underside of the floor nozzle clean, vacuum it at regular intervals using the crevice tool. P Q The HEPA exhaust filter filters the finest particles from the blown-out air. Replace every 6 months. IMPORTANT: The exhaust filter is not washable. Purchasing dust filter bags and replacement filters Use only genuine replacement dustbags and filters which can be purchased by calling the number below. Á Changing the HEPA exhaust filter HELPLINE 1 Switch the appliance off and unplug from the mains supply. 2 Open the exhaust filter cover. To do this, press the release button Á down and pull the exhaust filter cover back and out Q. If you have any difficulty with your appliance, do not hesitate to call us. We are more likely to be able to help than the store from where you bought it. 3 Remove the exhaust filter. 4 Insert a new exhaust filter. 5 Then put the exhaust filter cover back again. First hook this in from below and then press it up and forwards until it clicks into place audibly and noticeably. Please quote the following information if the product develops a fault. These numbers can be found on the base of the product. Model no. Serial no. All Morphy Richards products are individually tested before leaving the factory. In the unlikely event of any appliance proving to be faulty within 28 days of purchase, it should be returned to the place of purchase for it to be replaced. If the fault develops after 28 days and within 24 months of original purchase, you should contact the Helpline number quoting Model number and Serial number on the product, or write to Morphy Richards at the address shown. You may be asked to return a copy of proof of purchase. Subject to the exclusions set out below, the faulty appliance will then be repaired or replaced and dispatched usually within 7 working days of receipt. If you suspect a fault, follow the simple checks detailed below before retrying the appliance or calling the helpline. Check the filters for blockages. Morphy Richards products are intended for household use only. Check the tools / tubes for blockages. Check the plug is firmly in the socket. Check the socket is working by trying another appliance. Check the fuse in the plug. If for any reason this item is replaced during the 2 year guarantee period, the guarantee on the new item will be calculated from original purchase date. Therefore it is vital to retain your original till receipt or invoice to indicate the date of initial purchase. To qualify for the 2 year guarantee, the appliance must have been used according to the instructions supplied. EXCLUSIONS Morphy Richards shall not be liable to replace or repair the goods under the terms of the guarantee where: 1 The fault has been caused or is attributable to accidental use, misuse, negligent use or used contrary to the manufacturer s recommendations or where the fault has been caused by power surges or damage caused in transit. 2 The appliance has been used on a voltage supply other than that stamped on the products. Morphy Richards has a policy of continuous improvement in product quality and design. The company, therefore reserves the right to change the specification of its models at any time. 3 Repairs have been attempted by persons other than our service staff (or authorised dealer). 4 Where the appliance has been used for hire purposes or non domestic use. 5 Morphy Richards are not liable to carry out any type of servicing work, under the guarantee. 6 The guarantee excludes consumables such as bags and filters. This guarantee does not confer any rights other than those expressly set out above and does not cover any claims for consequential loss or damage.
