I hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday. Now that it s 2019 it s full speed ahead for your Council. First on January 24 th it s our General meeting, then on March 8 th our Arbor Day Award ceremony in Yorktown, after that on April 3 rd it s our Hats Off to Garden Clubs fundraiser. We ll wrap up the Council year with a bang on May 23 rd with a Luncheon and installation of a new Board. Be sure to have these dates on your calendar. I want to congratulate Green Spring Garden Club for an inspiring 59 th Christmas Homes Tour. Also, a big thank you to all who shared their time and talents to make this year s tour a success. This tour is always a wonderful event for the community and guests. Our January 24 th General Meeting will be hosted by Ford s Colony Garden Club at their Swim & Tennis Club on St Andrews Drive. Our guest speaker is Susan Dippre. Susan will share tips and designs to brighten our winter days. Ways & Means will have fabulous raffle items don t forget to bring some cash! Directions are in this newsletter. This month we ll be calling on each garden club to participate in our Hats Off to Garden Clubs fundraiser. To make our fundraiser a success we need our Council Garden Club members to participate with hats that are special to them. The hat could be yours, your mothers, grandmothers or one that brings back a wonderful memory. Debbie Abrams will have information at this month s meeting on how clubs and members can participate with a hat vignette. Arbor Day voting is this month (January 8 th ) I hope all Arbor Day representatives will be able to attend the meeting. If you cannot attend, be sure to contact Ellen Schiavone or Geneva Hunt. You can t recycle metallic paper or glitter. When recycling boxes, remove large amounts of heavy-duty tape. You can also reuse your tree. It can be chipped for use as ground cover or mulch. Or place the trunk strategically in your garden as a small habitat for birds and squirrels. If you have a pond you can submerge a tree to create a habitat for small fish. VFGC Tidewater District VFGC TIDEWATER DISTRICT PRESIDENT Glenda Knowles, Berkeley and Colonial Heritage Garden Clubs ggknowles@cox.net, 757-651-0401 Tidewater District Flower Show The Tidewater District will present its annual NGC Standard Flower Show, Rhythm and Hues, January 25-27, 2019, as a part of the larger Virginia Flower & Garden Expo. The Expo will be held at the Virginia Beach Convention Center, near the oceanfront. There is a $10 (adults) charge for the big show; but if you participate in Rhythm and Hues, you will be able to enter at no charge. Entries for Rhythm and Hues" will be: Thursday, January 24, 2:00 4:00 p.m., and Friday, January 25, 8:00-9:30 p.m. Please consider entering our show. It is a great opportunity for exhibitors, both design and horticulture. This show will also feature Botanical Arts Artistic Crafts. Our theme will carry through the sections and classes. Artistic Crafts will include a necklace, an evening glove and a shoe - all crafted with plant material. Class titles are I Feel Pretty, I Feel Stunning and for the shoe, Dancing Queen. Designs will include Designer s Choice, Table Artistry, and Petite Designs.
