SONSIK e-newsletter Volume 4, Issue 3, May 2014 EDITORIAL: SONSIK Friendship Sports Festival A Memory We Made, A Spirit We Showed, A Happiness We Shared! Dear SONSIK Family, Welcome to the 3rd Issue, Volume 4, of the SONSIK e-newsletter for 2014! We hope you will find this a useful update on our activities and would like to thank everyone who has supported this edition by providing useful information. A central component of this issue is a roundup of details of general, scientific events, research activities and social activities concerning representation of Nepalese students in Korea and the related fields. Subsequently, this issue of the SONSIK e-newsletter outlines cluster meetings recently organized and introduces the new executive committee with the works they performed in the last three months of their tenure. In our renowned mission to increase the interaction between the Nepalese students in Korea and to preserve the pride and nationalism of our colorful heritage, we are the bridge uniting two worlds and two generations in Korea and be conduit for the students who want to come Korea for further study. At the same time, we strive to reach out towards our community by embracing its diversity and keeping our own doors open. We celebrate our awareness of nationalism, patriotism and the sense of humanism to serve Nepalese community and focusing mainly for students who are the pillar for the countries development. We are Nepalese in Korea. We are students. We are an association. We are the members of SONSIK. We all are together we are a unit. This issue is mainly focused on the interaction programs held between students either it be in a form of games or gathering. We are looking forward to continuing this productive channel of information interchange throughout the SONSIK community. SONSIK Interaction program at Ajou University & Seoul National University SONSIK is trying to be not only the organization for only sharing the things via facebook or some social medias but also trying to increase the interaction between students of various universities, with the same motto to understand the daily life styles and social life in Korea in a better way, SONSIK executive committee members are making a series of visit to different universities. Through such visit, we tend to understand the problems and experiences of students of every kind to possible. MoU signed between SONSIK and KINSA: SONSIK Network Building KINSA is a non-profit organization for international students living in Korea and has been founded with the view to setting the stage of exchange between Korean and international students and to extend Korean cultures via private non-profit organizations, the international students. In addition, the KINSA is willing to resolve difficulties that international students have faced with and to share the experiences together during the stay in Korea. 5

With these common motto and goal, we had decided to share our helping hands for the welfare of students and work for the betterment of students. On the date of 18th May, 2014, SONSIK signed MOU with the KINSA. Mr. Taraman Kadayat, president of SONSIK 10th EC represented SONSIK while Mr. Jason Lee, president of KINSA represented KINSA. Before the MOU program, we had a joint meeting with other int l students societies of Africa, Mexico, USA, Indonesia, Philippines and Myanmar with whom in future days; SONSIK seeks to work in a friendly environment. There are 22,687 Nepalese immigrants living in Korea, including undocumented (2200), dominated by male (20,043) population. 18,800 of them are unskilled workers, mostly employed in manufacturing industries, while 2267 of them are working in agricultural, fisheries and livestock sectors. The second largest group is made up of married immigrants (946), mainly the females (825). Besides, there are 488 Nepali students currently pursuing higher education in the country with 251 enrolled in Master s program and 153 people in the Ph.D. program, remaining in language and other programs.
