JASON MILLER
JASON MILLER Jason Miller is an acclaimed American industrial designer based in Brooklyn, New York, where he runs both Jason Miller Studio and highend contemporary lighting brand Roll & Hill. Miller creates lighting, furniture, accessories and interiors inspired by contemporary American culture, elevating the everyday though rich materials and reimagined forms. De La Espada works closely with Jason Miller, realising the studio s creative vision through elegant materials, exquisite craftsmanship and meticulous detailing. At the De La Espada factory in Portugal, expert craftspeople optimise the beauty and integrity of every product.
MOODBOARD Raised in Darien, Connecticut, Jason s suburban upbringing informs the elegant, historically rich work that has become his signature. He is fascinated by luxurious materials and intricate construction details as a means of redefining and reframing common features of American culture, drawing from Italian design, nature, sinuous forms and sumptuous textures.
Jason Miller s furniture is inspired by the housing trend currently prevalent in Brooklyn, where 100-year-old brownstones, originally built as single family homes then converted into apartment buildings, are being converted back into single family homes. Many of these buildings still retain original details such as ornate fireplaces, moldings and woodwork, but are in need of renovations, creating an interesting juxtaposition of old and new design. Jason Miller s product line captures this juxtaposition of time, purpose, and aesthetics. 054 GATES SOFA
I try to design things that the designers I admire will like but also things my mother would want to have in her home. I think this is possible. Jason Miller 052 CLASSON SIDEBOARD

When I was in school, and just out of school, I worked as a carpenter. I have always liked the humanity of wood. It s one of those materials like stone, ceramic, glass that humans have been using for centuries and will continue to use into the future. I think De La Espada has a respect for the material that comes through in the products. Jason Miller 050 ELLIOT DINING CHAIR

INSPIRING BOOKS Jason Miller is inspired by common aspects of American culture, as well as the forms of nature, whether the striking shapes of fluid in motion, or the photorealistic paintings by Vija Celmins of oceans, spiders webs and stars. Modern Italian design, rich with expressive curves and unmistakable luxury also informs his work, as he takes inspiration not only from the materials and contours, but their relationship with space. Miller is interested in the way interior environments define experiences and express personal styles, approaching furniture design with a view to the wider context of domesticity.
