It complements the schedules for the Art, Youth, Photography and Creative Writing Competitions. RULES and REGULATIONS 1. Eligibility: The Show is open to members of the Ontario Horticultural Association (hereafter OHA) and its affiliates, including the Garden Clubs of Ontario and Master Gardeners of Ontario. 2. Entry Dates/Times: Entries can be placed on Thursday, July 17, 2014 between 5:00 and 10:00 p.m. or on Friday, July 18, 2014 between 7:00 and 9:00 a.m. Late entries will only be accepted under exceptional circumstances with permission of a Competition Co-chair. 3. Public Viewing: The Show will be open to the public on Friday, July 18, 2014 starting at 1:00 p.m. Please note there will be a Judges Update Session using the competition for practice judging between 1:00 and 2:30 p.m. on Friday, July 18 and between 1:00 and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday July 19. The show will close on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. 4. Removal: All entries are to be removed on Saturday, July 19, 2014 between 4:15 and 5:45 p.m. or if necessary, between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 20. A signature is necessary for removal of entries. 5. Judging: a. Judging to take place on Friday, July 18, 2014 starting at 9:30 a.m. b. The decision of the Judge(s) shall be final. Judges may withhold an award if in their opinion the entry is not worthy. c. Judging will be in accordance with the Ontario Judging and Exhibiting Standards for Horticulture and Design (OJES 2003, reprinted 2007 and 2010). Please refer to it for definitions and information. Copies can be purchased from the OHA ($6.00; order form on-line at http://www.gardenontario.org/shop/index.php). 6. Entries General: a. Exhibitors may enter all divisions.
b. Each entry to have an entry tag giving requested information including Exhibitor s Name, Society and District. Entry tags will be supplied at the Convention by the OHA. c. Exhibitors must provide their own containers. d. All entries are to be kept in show condition to the extent possible for the duration of the show. An entry refreshed by the exhibitor must retain its original form and colour. This may only be done during the Show s non-public hours with permission of a Competition Co-chair. e. Reasonable security will be supplied for exhibitors property however the OHA assumes no responsibility for loss or damage. 7. Entries Horticulture: a. Exhibitors are allowed up to three entries per class provided that they are different cultivars. b. Entry tags should include the common name and the botanical name (if possible). c. All entries must be grown by the exhibitor. The exhibitor must have owned all potted plants for at least three months prior to exhibiting. d. The Competition Committee reserves the right to move horticulture entries when necessary to accommodate exhibitors or to subdivide a class. 8. Entries Design and Special Exhibits: a. Registration: Exhibitors are required to register with the Flower Show Registrar (Ann Kerr, 613-524-2370, abkerr@sympatico.ca) for the Design and Special Exhibit Classes as soon as possible and not later than June 1, 2014. There will be a limited number of entries in each class as noted in the Schedule. Space will be reserved for each entry upon registration by the exhibitor. Any exhibitor who finds it necessary to withdraw must make every effort to find a substitute and advise the Flower Show Registrar. b. Exhibitors may enter any number of Design or Special Exhibit Classes, but may submit only one entry in each class. c. Table spaces in each class to be selected by exhibitors on a first come, first served basis. No exhibitor may move another entry or impinge on another space. d. Moving a Design or Special Exhibit entry other than your own is not permitted. The exhibitor is the only person able to move or shift the position of the design. e. All entries must be made and staged by the exhibitors themselves. Work tables and water will be available. f. All entries to be kept in show condition for the duration of the show. An entry refreshed by the exhibitor must retain its original form and colour. This may only be done during the Show s non-public hours with permission of a Competition Co-chair. g. Accessories are permitted. h. Fresh plant material must predominate over other components of the entry. No artificial plant material, no cut or sliced fruit, dairy products or perishable food is allowed. No soil is permitted in an entry in the Design Division. No endangered plants are permitted. i. Dried or preserved plant material and decorative wood may be used in their natural state or painted. No painting or dyeing of fresh plant material is allowed.
j. Plant material may be from any source. 9. Prizes and Awards: a. OHA ribbons will be awarded for 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd place in each class. An honourable mention ribbon may be awarded at the discretion of the Judge. A rosette will be awarded for Best in Show and Judge s Choice. b. Except for Classes 2 and 6, space allotted will be 76 cm (30 ) wide by 62 cm (24 ) deep, height unlimited. Neutral coloured background (white, ivory or light teal). No niches provided. Judging will be from the front, but the back of each design should be finished. Class 2 (small design) will be displayed about 30 cm (12 ) above the table in a blackcoloured niche with open sides, 35 cm (14") wide x 35 cm (14") deep x 35 cm (14") high. Class 6 (miniature design) will be displayed about 60 cm (24 ) above the table in a redcoloured niche with open sides, 20 cm (8") wide x 20 (8") deep x 20 cm (8") high.
