Introduction Thank you for purchasing your new Power Vent System. This product has been designed using the latest technology and the highest quality materials. This robust unit has been developed or use in a wide range of Element4 Gas Fireplaces. This product must be installed in compliance with the building, gas and electrical codes in effect at the time of installation. This Power Vent System is for use indoor only. Installation and service must be performed by an authorized qualified installer, service agency or gas supplier. Note: The following instructions are intended to make installation and operation easier. The safety instructions are important and to be followed at all times. When all of the instructions are followed, your Power Vent will give years of trouble free service. Compliance Declaration We hereby declare that the design and construction of the Element4 Power Vent MkII are complying to the essential demands and regulations for gas products. J. Kempers CEO Product: Vent Fan Model: Power Vent System Applicable guidelines and specifications: BSEN 613:2001+A1:2008 ANSI Z21.50 Edition: 2014/02/01 ED:7; Err. 2015 CSA 2.22 Edition: 2014/02/01 CSA P.4.1:2015 Ed.3 This declaration loses its validity when changes to the device are made without the written permission of Element4. 2

Installation Note: Check before first use that the Power Vent and included parts have not been damaged during transport. Always report damage to your supplier immediately. Check whether the following parts are included: 1. Power Vent 2. Air Separator with Adapter 3. Power Vent fan module + cables 4. 120V AC connection cable 5. Installation manual 6. Air Splitter Vent Adapter Power Vent Note: For service purposes the Power Vent must be accessible at all times! Check the site situation to ensure that the installation conforms to all relevant codes and regulations. For advice and guidance, see your local dealer. Extreme windy positions should be avoided as this may give rise to nuisance shut downs and the need for the customer to reset the unit. Reset by unplugging the power and readjusting the speed. Ensure that vent passes through all walls without being tight and seal the wall around the vent with suitable material, such as high temperature fire cement or silicon. Due to mechanical flow of the flue gases the inlet and outlet do not have to be in the same pressure area. 2 terminations are required. The location of the terminations must be in accordance with all local regulations. Air supply The supply of combustion air must only come from the outside. Installation of the Power Vent Always maintain a free space around the fan of at least 4 (10 cm) Keep in mind the extra distance to combustible materials, as well as the ventilation. When the Power Vent is installed in a closed space, a minimum of two openings with a free area of at least 1.0 in 2 (645mm 2 ) each must be provided. Venting All venting on the exhaust (outflow) side of the power vent must be rated for positive pressure chimney applications. Single-wall venting must be placed in a non-combustible chase. In all other cases concentric venting is to be used. Note: Make sure no heat may be transferred by way of the support of the concentric/single-wall piping. Vent connections must be made according to the requirements of the venting manufacturer. The fan must be installed at a minimum distance from the fireplace of 6.5 ft. (2 meters). This will ensure the life of the unit is maintained by reducing the flue gas temperature. The Power Vent does not require extra maintenance, but a annual checkup is recommended. Make sure the connections to the Power Vent are unmountable, to ease removal of the motor or circuit board if necessary. Terminations To ensure a well functioning fire, the air supply and exhaust must not be restricted. Either a wall or a roof termination are allowed to be used. 4

ON-OFF DOWN Mounting the Power Vent The Power Vent is provided with three mounting tabs for use with the fasteners most appropriate for the installation. The fan may be mounted in any orientation and it must be mounted inside a conditioned space. The Power Vent is provided with an electric plug which is to be connected to a dedicated 120V AC receptacle mounted within 3 /1 m of the Power Vent Once the unit is wired refer to the Pre-fitting test procedure in First Adjustment of the Power Vent to correctly set the fan speed. Servicing or cleaning of the fan should normally be carried out only if problems occur, and it must be carried out by qualified personnel. Important! This product must be installed in compliance with the building, gas and electrical codes in effect at the time of installation. Power Vent Module The Power Vent Module and 65 ft./20 m cable (included) ensures communication between the fireplace and the Power Vent. The cable must not contact any part of the venting. Installing the Air Separator The air separator may be connected directly to the North American Vent Adapter or to a 5 /8 vent section. In all cases the Power Vent must be connected to the fireplace with at least 6.5 ft./2 m of venting. The venting must be installed according to the requirements of the venting manufacturer. Please ensure that all the connections between the individual parts of the venting are tight. Leakages will affect the operation of the appliance or may even cause a shut down. Note: Venting may NOT be set in concrete floors or buried. First Adjustment of the Power Vent Adjusting the Power Vent is done with the speed controller. With this you set the resistance of the motor. This controller and the indicator lights are located on the Power Vent. The Access Cover must be removed for this. Make sure that this cover can be reached at all times. Pre-fitting Test It is essential that this test is carried out to check for the unlikely event of transit damage and also to familiarize you with the fan operation. All units are fitted with a 13A fused plug. Starting Position. Position 0 Position 6 Position 12 Motor is turning full power Starting position for every installation Motor is turning in lowest speed. FAN SPEED V+ FAN V0 RUN 6 0 12 Draadkleuren Access Cover Starting After starting the fireplace the fan will run at high speed for 5 seconds, then a signal will be sent to the control module and the speed will audibly drop. In that position the two green LED lights are ON and one is blinking. Blinking LED The blinking should last for 60 seconds during which the fan is checking the system for correct operation. After 60 seconds the blinking should stop. LED Blinking Red If the green light does not stop blinking or it turns RED, then increase the fan speed by one step as described below. To do so, remove the access box lid and locate the blue speed control. Check the fire performance, and see that the flame color and motion look satisfactory. Note: Increase the fan speed: Turn the speed control counter-clockwise Decrease the fan speed: Turn the speed control clockwise RUN PWR Fine Tuning When flame appearance is pleasing advance the speed control by one step (if necessary) to account for severe weather and avoid nuisance shut downs. Speed Regulator (Blue) WARNING ISOLATE SUPPLY BEFORE CARRYING OUT ANY WORK OR ADJUSTMENTS. All electrical work must be performed by a suitably qualified person. 9 Note: Allow 20 minutes of flame operation before judging the flame appearance. In the first 20 minutes it is still possible for the fan to shut down. Always take into account this extra time during first installation.

Operating the Power Vent By pressing the On/Off button the fire and fan will both start. Note: When used with the power vent, the thermostat function or the standby pilot function will no longer work with the fireplace. AM PM ON OFF 1 2 10
