Energy efficiency brought into focus. Optimized heat recovery and cooling energy recovery Swegon s rotary heat exchangers (RX) offer unbeatable temperature efficiency, up to 85% and low pressure drop. The rotary heat exchanger recovers cooling energy just as efficiently, especially if you select one with hygroscopically coated rotor surfaces. However, in some applications, the airflow paths through the heat exchanger must be completely separate from one another. Such applications call for the use of a plate heat exchanger (GOLD PX) or coil heat exchangers (GOLD CX and GOLD SD). These alternative heat exchangers have an energy-efficient, anti-frost protection system that also measures humidity in the extract air. This ensures that the efficiency will not be controlled to the min. setpoint until the actual risk of freezing is imminent. Swegon s heat exchangers cut your costs of operating the heating and cooling system of the building to optimally low levels. Energy-efficient fans The motor and frequency inverter of the fans in the GOLD units are optimized to generate the best output while consuming as little power as possible. The motors perform to Class EFF1, i.e. their performance measures up to the highest efficiency rating classified by the EU and CEMEP European Committee of Manufacturers of Electrical Machines and Power Electronics. The frequency inverters also have a high power factor. This enables the electrical installation of fuses with lower rating. The fans are compact and take up little space. Sharp bends can be connected directly against the fan outlet without pressure losses. Low noise level enables the use of smaller sound absorbers in some applications the ventilation system can be selected completely without them. Tools worth their weight in gold. An intelligent economist Pressures, airflows, temperatures, energy recovery and operating periods can be controlled in the IQnomic control system, which is standard in all the GOLD air handling units. Practically all the functions you can think of for an air handling unit are incorporated into the system and they are all ready to be activated. There are also several unique energy-saving functions such as Cooling Boost, density-corrected airflow and season-related airflow. All the settings and readings can be entered/viewed in plain text via a user-friendly, hand-held micro terminal. As standard, the GOLD has support for all the usual communication standards (TCP/IP, EIA 485 and EIA 232). The TBLZ communication unit can also be used for communication via LON and Trend. The GOLD also has a built-in web communication function ready to be connected to the network. All you need is an ordinary computer connected to the network. The fact that the control equipment is integrated into and specifically developed for the GOLD ensures that its electronics and mechanics operate hand in hand. This also offers you the chance to come a step further than you would with a control system built up of standard components. The IQnomic involves substantially lower costs compared with the planning, procuring, programming, configuring and installation of conventional control components and supervisory systems. Effective solutions with the GOLD. Decentralized ventilation Swegon has a history of creating pioneering products and the GOLD is generally used as a criterion by both clients and competitors. Swegon has also taken a step further and developed solutions aimed at giving the client maximal return on investment. Decentralised ventilation is one example. The concept involves using several smaller air handling units, instead of one single large unit. Each unit serves its own smaller section of the building and this offers the client increased profitability. A decentralized solution namely sets more floor surface free that can generate additional income from leases. This is possible in that the GOLD unit takes up little space and the level of sound it generates is low. The operating costs are in many cases also lower because the fans, heat recovery and controls in smaller air handling units are more efficient than those of a larger unit. One single large ventilation unit in the cellar, for instance, requires considerable floor surface and large shafts (upper illustration). With the GOLD system, it is possible to have one air handling unit on each floor of the building occupying the same space as the shaft. This leaves the whole cellar free for lettable floor surface for car parking spaces, for instance (lower illustration). Further benefits are that the building becomes more flexible, because it is easier to adapt the ventilation system to each tenant s specific comfort requirements and that the building can be completed by stages both in new-building and refurbishment schemes. The Consultant The GOLD units are easy to place because they can be connected to ducting in a number of ways. No extensive work is required for describing how the control, regulating and supervisory system should be designed; all this is there, integrated into the GOLD. A description and flow charts can be obtained from the ProUnit air handling unit selection software. Correct technical data and knowledge that the units have been granted certification by Eurovent are additional guarantees that no unpleasant surprises will arise when the ventilation system is put into operation. You don t have to reinvent the wheel; you can instead focus on making good use of GOLD functionality and energy efficiency in the best possible way. The Installer The GOLD can be installed quickly and easily. In applications that require external functions such as dampers, presence detectors or a cooling unit, these can be easily wired to clearly marked terminal blocks. Certain wiring operations are done directly with modular connectors. Should the passageways through the site prove to be narrow; the larger air handling units can be easily split into sections. The GOLD is the ideal alternative for turnkey contract projects. All the necessary functions are built in; you need only activate those required, including communication and supervision. Technical description General General The GOLD RX/PX/CX one-piece units are complete air handling units with direct-driven supply air and extract air fans, supply air and extract air filters and heat exchanger. The heat exchanger is either of rotary type (RX), plate type (PX) or consists of two coils (CX). The GOLD SD single-direction units are supply air/extract air handling units with one direct-driven supply air or extract air fan. Optional filters are available for all sizes. Heat exchanger coils and unmounted pipework package can be selected for the size 14-80 units. The GOLD has built-in control equipment that can be operated from the hand-held micro terminal with clear-text display. The electrical and control system is completely integrated into the air handling unit. The microprocessor-based equipment controls and regulates temperatures, airflows and other functions. A large number of functions are built into the system and are simple to activate. If supplementary function sections such as dampers and air coolers are required, they must be installed in the ductwork. With provision for cooling and heating The GOLD is also well suited for cooling, preheating and postheating. The control functions in the control system are ready to activate and the relevant items of equipment are available as accessories. Range of application The GOLD units are designed for use in comfort ventilation applications. Depending on the variant selected, GOLD units can be utilised in buildings such as office buildings, schools, day nurseries, public buildings, shops, residential buildings, etc. GOLD units equipped with plate/coil heat exchanger (PX/CX) and separate supply air and extract air handling units (SD) can also be used for the ventilation of moderately humid buildings; however not where the humidity is continuously high, such as in indoor swimming baths. The separate GOLD supply air and extract air handling units (SD) are designed for applications in which the supply air and extract air flows need to be completely separated from one another or where, due to limited available space, separate units for supply air and extract air are needed. They can also be used individually if only one of the variants is needed. GOLD units can be installed outdoors and then must be equipped with with roof, air intake section and exhaust air hood accessories. Installation, Dimensions and Weights GOLD RX, sizes 04/05, 08 Delivery and transport within the site The size 04/05 and 08 GOLD units are produced in one single variant. All components are arranged at their given physical location inside the air handling unit. The junction hood can be removed, if required, for transporting the unit within the building site. The air handling unit is supplied on a wooden pallet. Stand/Base If the air handling unit is installed horizontally, it must be mounted on a stand (accessory) or some other form of base support, so that its inspection doors can be opened. Installation/duct connection options A: The GOLD is supplied in a right-hand version. The unit can be changed to the left-hand version at the building site by making a simple adjustment in the control equipment. B: The air handling unit can be installed up ended. Installation, Dimensions and Weights GOLD RX sizes 14/20, 25/30, 35/40 Delivery and transport within the site The GOLD 14/20, 25/30 and 35/40 are always supplied as one complete unit. The air handling unit can be split into three sections to facilitate transporting it within the building site. The three sections are joined together by bolts and the electrical and control cables have quick connectors. The junction hood can be removed, if required, for transporting the unit within the building site. The air handling unit is delivered on wooden beams. Duct connection options A: The GOLD is supplied in a right-hand version. The unit can be changed to the left-hand version at the building site by making a simple adjustment in the control equipment. B: The arrangement of the functional sections can be vertically reversed. Specify this by selecting fan arrangement 1 or 2 when ordering! C: The fan outlet at the top of the air handling unit is covered by a cover panel. This cover panel can be easily moved to the end wall panel if it is desirable for the upper fan to discharge air upwards. The fan outlet can also be used for both forward and upward air discharge. Complements and accessories Air recirculation section, GOLD RX and CX TBBR Air recirculation section The TBBR air recirculation section is available for the size 14 and larger GOLD RX and CX units. The TBBR consists of an extra unit section that has a motor-driven damper (on/off or modulating). Depending on how the air recirculation section is to be used, it may also be necessary to install extra sensors for reading the pressure, room temperature, CO 2 content, heating and/or cooling coil temperatures and the status of shut-off dampers for exhaust air and outdoor air. Recirculation, on/off: Can be used when it is desirable to heat an unoccupied room with recirculated air; an economic solution for factory buildings, shopping centres, etc. The intermittent night-time heating function stops the extract air fan and heat recovery, closes the shut-off damper for outdoor air and opens the damper in the air recirculation section. Recirculation, modulating: Can be used for the demand-controlled and economical operation of fans, heating and cooling, especially in buildings in which the load varies. The patent-pending ReCO 2 function adjusts the air quality (in response to signals from CO 2 sensors) and temperature by steplessly controlling the shut-off dampers and the damper in the air recirculation section as well as the speed of the fans. Complements and accessories Plug and Play cooling unit for direct expansion CoolDX Cooling unit The CoolDX is a complete system for comfort cooling in GOLD RX/PX/CX air handling units. The CoolDX operates with direct expansion in which the refrigerant transfers cooling energy via a pipe system with coils. The cooling unit operates in 3 steps. A special function provides stepless control as well. The heat exchanger in the GOLD is then used in parallel with the cooling compressors. All the equipment is housed in one and the same unit and the CoolDX can be docked to the GOLD across ordinary duct connections. In addition to the above, only an electric power supply and a communication cable (with quick connector) between the CoolDX and the GOLD are required. The GOLD has ready-to-use cooling functions for controlling the CoolDX. This also includes communication via the web or traditional supervisory systems. The CoolDX is available in several capacity variants for the size 08-60 GOLD units. A floor stand is available as an accessory for the size 08 units. Base beams are standard for the size 14-60 units.
