Brilliant alternative: Ceiling systems made of metallic mesh The range of metallic mesh ceiling systems by GKD Gebr. Kufferath AG (GKD) has now been enhanced through the addition of sandwich panels with an aluminium honeycomb supporting plate. With composite meshes (CMP mesh), the company is further broadening its portfolio by adding solutions for large-scale ceiling constructions with a monolithic effect. Two years ago, the Silentmesh acoustic ceiling system marked the beginning of the company's new orientation as a full-scope provider of ceiling systems. The system is available in eight mesh types made of stainless steel and aluminium and now also as the new composite model. It can be installed with either visible lay-in mounting or concealed clamped mounting. GKD ceiling systems are available in all conventional screen sizes and in any desired shape. As a system provider, GKD offers consulting, planning, mesh production, tested systems, prefabrication, assembly and maintenance from a single source. Freedom for creative minds Key criteria of modern interior design are met by the mesh appearance and system design, which can both be individually arranged. The extraordinary aesthetic properties of metallic mesh create real visual experiences through the material's interplay with light. Its almost unlimited durability, simple assembly and the minimal care required underline the cost-effectiveness of the material. Manufactured from either stainless steel or aluminium, the GKD ceiling systems can be supplied with eight different mesh types: alongside the Atlantic, Ellipse 52 and ALU 6010 rod meshes, the PC meshes (PC stands for pre-crimped, i.e. grid mesh with metal wires precrimped in the warp or weft direction) PC Omega 1510 and 1520 as well as PC Tigris 100 x 15 offer a variety of decors. The systems can be fastened to any load-bearing bare ceiling using standard commercial metal anchors and adjustable, galvanised nonius hangers. Two mounting systems are available: visible lay-in mounting with T-rails or concealed clamped mounting with bandraster and single clamping profiles. With clamped mounting, metallic mesh suspension brackets developed and patented by GKD are simply clamped into the profiles from below. By only using folded mesh for clamped mounting, we ensure appealing joint patterns and a high level of tile stability. The module sizes of 60 x 60 cm, 120 x 60 cm, 62,5 x 62,5 cm or 125 x 62,5 cm are suitable for DIN grids and EU grids as well as the imperial grids commonly found in the USA. 2
Strong performance for a lightweight The innovative CMP mesh (CMP stands for composite), a sandwich panel with an aluminium honeycomb supporting plate at its core, is the solution of choice for particularly high-grade, grid-free ceiling constructions. The surface layer made of ALU 6010 aluminium mesh laminated on the visible side of the lightweight panel utilises the unique effect of metallic mesh for visual design, while an intermediate layer of acoustic fleece improves room acoustics. The extraordinary stability resulting from the design means that CP ALU 6010 offers a high degree of flexural strength even for very large panel formats. As such, sagging of panels up to 4 m long and 1.25 m wide is avoided and an even surface guaranteed even for large shaped ceilings. Moreover, the lightweight construction allows for easy handling. Despite its size, with concealed mounting the composite mesh can easily be installed in the clamping profile by means of riveted L-angles. The large format allows for a reduced number of joints, which alongside a butt joint design underlines the monolithic effect of the ceiling construction. The composite design is suitable for all mesh types used in ceiling systems, but is ideal for aluminium mesh anodised in colour on request due to the advantages of its lightweight design. Open to more pleasant acoustics The Silentmesh acoustic ceiling system combines the attractive appearance of metallic mesh with pleasant room acoustics. Equipped with either a highly effective sound absorption mat or tested acoustic fleece, woven ceiling panels reduce the level of noise, grant privacy and optimise speech intelligibility. This makes the system ideally suited for open-plan room layouts such as those typical of modern conference rooms, reception halls or open-plan offices. The free choice of format and system offers 3
architects and users a wide-ranging scope of application, catering to the most demanding functional and visual requirements. Basis for tailor-made ceilings All GKD ceiling systems can be adjusted quickly and easily. Lights, downlighters or sprinklers are easy to integrate. Tailor-made openings and trimmed sections are prepared ex factory by GKD during prefabrication. The system is then delivered with a fully dimensioned substructure and installation plans. Upon customer request, GKD also takes care of assembly.
