Inspired by the traditional Mexican dance, the form flirts with the line and the curve, creating a courtyard that promotes both safety and connection to the outside environment.
FALL 2016 ATMOS [ SPHERE] LOCATION San Francisco, CA TYPOLOGY Music Venue for The Boiler Room ATMOS [SPHERE] is designed to reflect the experimental nature of electronic music broadcasted by The Boiler Room. The venue focuses on creating interesting user experience through diverse viewing areas the main performance area is overlooked by two smaller performance bubbles that could be easily converted to additional viewing space.
Heal Permanence Empowerment LOCATION Skid Row, Los Angeles, CA TYPOLOGY Mix Use Apartment for the Formerly Homeless PROJECT HOPE is a 72 sro mixed-used apartment complex with urban farming distributed throughout the space. A set of grand stairs act as a suture to bind private space with garden community space. A home for the previously homeless require several architectural features that is key in promoting happiness. Firstly, there needs to be open spaces such as courtyards, gardens, or therapeutic rooms to heal tenants mentally and physically. Additionally, empowering tools such as a door-bell or a private mailbox empowers people with privacy and a sense of self worth. Lastly, permanence is important in what makes a home personal through a feeling of belonging in community spaces, and overall comfort. PROJECT HOPE WINTER 2017

ANDROGYN SPRING 2017 JOINT PROJECT WITH ELEANOR SHULL ACSA STEEL COMPETITION 2016-2017 LOCATION Skid Row, Los Angeles, CA TYPOLOGY Mix Use Apartment for the Formerly Homeless ANDROGYN recognizes the strong bonds formed in homeless communities and aims to enhance these communal ties through a focus on growth. The first goal is to weave people of various backgrounds together through a set of exterior gathering stairs, linking all public amenities within the building. It is programmed to push visual and physical interaction between people of different socioeconomic backgrounds. Secondly, it reaches to revive visitors and residents alike via support services and public garden spaces ultimately with the overarching goal of inspiring residents and the wider community with the knowledge that they can gain from educational services offered within the space. Additionally, Androgyn aims to inspire the community through its versatile use of steel by showcasing its strength through a library enclosed in a cantilevered truss and its delicacy through a steel screen shading system that encloses the upper garden and circulation space.
