T8400C Universal Electronic Thermostats INSTALLATIN INSTUCTINS APPLICATIN The T8400C Universal Thermostat provides single-stage, non-programmable temperature control for 24 Vac heating-cooling systems with manual changeover from heat to cool. Heating cycle rate is selectable at,, 4, 5, 6, 9, or 2 cph. Cooling cycle rate is fixed at cph. Temperature indication can be set for F or C. The T8400C Thermostats are powered through the heating and/or cooling system controls. T8400C models includes a thermostat, wallplate (for wiring and mounting thermostat) and owner s guide. MECU NTICE If this control is replacing a control that contains mercury in a sealed tube, do not place your old control in the trash. Dispose of properly. Contact your local waste management authority for instructions regarding recycling and the proper disposal of an old control. INSTALLATIN hen Installing this Product. ead these instructions carefully. Failure to follow them could damage the product or cause a hazardous condition. 2. Check the ratings given in the instructions and on the product to make sure the product is suitable for your application.. Installer must be a trained, experienced service technician. 4. After installation is complete, check out product operation as provided in these instructions. CAUTIN Equipment Damage Hazard. Can short equipment circuitry. Disconnect power supply before installation. Location Install the thermostat about 5 ft (.5m) above the floor in an area with good air circulation at average temperature. See Fig.. Do not install the thermostat where it can be affected by: drafts or dead spots behind doors and in corners. hot or cold air from ducts. radiant heat from the sun or appliances. concealed pipes and chimneys. unheated (uncooled) areas such as an outside wall behind the thermostat. This thermostat is a precision instrument and was carefully adjusted at the factory. Handle it carefully. U.S. egistered Trademark Copyright 2002 Honeywell All ights eserved X-XX UL 69-495-2

Mount wallplate, T8400C, and the screws provided (see Fig. 2) as follows:. Place the wallplate at the desired location on the wall. 2. Pull the thermostat wire through the wallplate entrance hole.. Select the two mounting holes that best fit the application. 4. Fasten the wallplate to the wall using the anchors and screws provided. 5. After wiring the wallplate, plug the hole to prevent drafts from affecting the thermostat; see iring section. ALL ALL ANCHS (2) Setting Fan peration (Fuel) Switch The fan operation (fuel) switch is preset at the factory in the F position. See Fig.. This is the correct setting for most systems. CAUTIN Equipment Damage Hazard. Fuel switch remaining in F position for electric heat turns on electric heater but keeps off the fan during a call for heat. Set switch to E position so fan truns on immediately with the equipment to prevent equipment damage. If this system is an electric heat system, set the switch to the E position. The E setting allows the fan to turn on immediately with the heating or cooling equipment in a system where the terminal is connected. Cooling CAUTIN Low Temperature Hazard. perating at too low of an outdoor temperature may cause compressor damage. Do not operate cooling if outdoor temperature is below 50 F (0 C). efer to equipment manufacturer instructions. For compressor protection, during power interruption and on initial startup, the T8400C Electronic Thermostat will go into a 5 minute delay. During this delay the cooling icon, a snowflake, will flash. Fan. Slide the SSTEM switch to ff and the switch to n. The fan should run continuously. 2. Slide the switch to Auto. In heating, the fan is controlled directly by the heating equipment and may start a few minutes after the heating equipment turns on (on most systems). hen using an electric heat thermostat, the fan starts and stops with the heating equipment. In cooling, the fan starts and stops with the cooling equipment. Make certain all equipment responds properly to the thermostat.. Slide the SSTEM switch to Cool and the switch to Auto. 2.
