Residential Monitoring to Decrease Energy Use and Carbon Emissions in Europe Some results from the measuring campaign National Workshop September 19th, Brussels Organised by MINA-Raad

OVERVIEW : Methodology Output Some examples of results Focus on consumer electronics Focus on lighting Discussion of results

METHODOLOGY : Sample : 100 households in Flanders and Brussels As representative as possible (household seize, type of dwelling, number and age of children,.. Type of family Type of dwelling 100% 100% 90% 90% 80% 70% 60% 50% 40% 30% >65 19-65 / Children older than 12 19-65 / Children younger than 12 19-65 / No children 80% 70% 60% 50% 40% 30% Multi Occupancy Building Single Family House 20% 20% 10% 10% 0% 1 0% 1

METHODOLOGY : What has been measured? Total electricity consumption of the household during 2-4 weeks Load profile or consumption of main electric appliances (not : coffee machines, kettles, microwaves,..) Load profile of main lights / lamps

METHODOLOGY : Measuring equipment : Load profile power loggers Lighting loggers Consumption meters

OUTPUT : 1. Database with socio-econnomic variables (hh. size, age of children, type of dwelling, ) Total consumption / load profile during 2-4 weeks Measured consumption / load profile per appliance and per lamp Database can be used for bottom-up modelling of electricity demand and for comparisons with other EU-countries 2. On-line tool for consumers to estimate their consumption and get advise on how to reduce it
