Welcome to your new state of the art ARC InstaTemp digital infrared non-touch thermometer! The ARC InstaTemp is a digital non-touch thermometer that measures and displays human body temperature. This device is intended for use by responsible adults at home. NOTE: PLEASE READ PRECAUTIONS BEFORE OPERATING ARC InstaTemp To ensure the best results with your ARC InstaTemp thermometer, please be sure to read the following operational and procedural manual carefully. If you give this device to another adult, it is vital that you also pass on this user manual. The ARC InstaTemp is a sophisticated technologically advanced electronic medical device that has been carefully engineered to quickly and accurately measure human body temperature without requiring any contact with the human body. Do not use this device for any other purpose. 2

OPERATION CHANGING ºF TO ºC ARC InstaTemp is set to Fahrenheit by default. To change to Celsius, follow these simple steps: Press and release the activation button to get a reading. Once the reading appears on screen in Fahrenheit, press and release the activation button again the reading will automatically change to Celsius. Repeat to change back. 5

OPERATION TAKING A TEMPERATURE Before attempting to take a temperature reading: Remove protective label prior to operation Move hair away from the path of the sensor. Wipe perspiration from the forehead, if apparent Ensure that the person has been in the room for 20 minutes. Do not measure the person s temperature immediately after he/she has been exposed to really cold or hot climates, or has drunk a hot or cold liquid as it may temporarily change the surface temperature of the skin. In these instances, wait 20 minutes before taking a temperature reading Do not touch the lens of the sensor. It is the most delicate part of the ARC InstaTemp 6

OPERATION TAKING A TEMPERATURE Point the thermometer at the person as shown below. Ensure the device is 0.5-1.25 ins (1-3 cm) from the forehead, above the eyebrows and between the eyes. ARC InstaTemp must be held steady, perpendicular to and pointing directly at the center of the forehead at the area above the eyebrows and between the eyes when taking a temperature. 0.5-1.25 (1-3cm) Point and Click Hold the ARC InstaTemp in position, and press and release the activation button once. Hold the thermometer in position until the display is illuminated and a temperature reading is displayed on the screen. 7

OPERATION TAKING A TEMPERATURE The temperature reading will be displayed for 4 seconds. Temperature Range Indicator System The temperature range indicator will be green, orange or red depending on the temperature measurement detected. See the tables on the following page for details of the temperature ranges. Should you wish to take a second reading, wait for 5 seconds and repeat. Do not hold the activation button between measurements. 8

Outside the measurable range, 89.5-109.1 F (32-42.8 C), the screen shows or as applicable. 9

OPERATION TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE MEASUREMENT RANGE Reading The LCD will display. This indicates that the temperature which the thermometer has measured is outside the device s measurement range (i.e. >109.1 F/ >42.8 C). Above 109.1º F / 42.8 C Reading The LCD will display. This indicates that the temperature which the thermometer has measured is outside the device s measurement range (i.e. <89.5 F/ <32 C). Below 89.5º F / 32 C 10

OPERATION OTHER SCREEN INDICATIONS Indication Meaning After 4 seconds the backlight, LCD display and temperature range indicator turn off and the thermometer powers down. If the display remains in this state after the button is pressed then the battery has depleted and your thermometer needs to be replaced. An Error message indicates an internal problem with the thermometer. If an Error message is displayed, please contact ARC Devices or your distributor. Contact info on the final page of this document. 11

OPERATION OTHER SCREEN INDICATIONS Indication Meaning This indicates an invalid reading. This is due to incorrect usage, such as: trying to measure a temperature when the ambient temperature is outside the operating temperature range. temperature measurement failed due to too much movement by the operator or patient. Wait 15 seconds and repeat the temperature. Repeat the temperature measurement as described in the section titled Taking the Temperature. Steady battery symbol & red indicator light: insufficient battery power for a measurement. Refer to page 23, Warranty 12

CARRYING & STORAGE (If accessory is included) To insert the ARC InstaTemp into the neoprene carrying case: 1 Pull the hood of the case back. 2 3 Remove the device by holding it on its sides, and slide it into the case, such that the LCD screen is slightly visible. Do not touch the sensor. Cover with the hood and store in a dry place. To remove the ARC InstaTemp from the neoprene carrying case 1 Pull the hood of the neoprene case back. 2 Grab the ARC InstaTemp on its sides and pull out of the case. 13

CARRYING & STORAGE (If accessory is included) The wall mount can be attached to any smooth vertical surface using its adhesive pad on the rear of the wall mount. Because it is magnetic, the wall mount can also be attached to any metal surface. The internal magnet also keeps the ARC InstaTemp gently attached to the wall mount. 14

PRECAUTIONS Essential safety steps to be read and noted before use: Read this manual and always follow the instructions as specified when using the ARC InstaTemp. This product is intended for home use only. Using this thermometer is not a substitute for consulting your physician. The ARC InstaTemp and the person must remain in a stable climate for at least 20 minutes before a reading can be taken. Do not measure the person s temperature immediately after he/she has been exposed to really cold or hot climates, or has drunk a hot or cold drink. In these instances, wait 20 minutes before taking a temperature reading. Do not apply any hot or cold compress, cloth or gel based, on the person s forehead prior to the measurement for at least 20 minutes. Do not drop, tap or shake the ARC InstaTemp thermometer. It is a precision device and any damage may result in an inaccurate reading. The temperature in the forehead area differs from the internal temperature, which is taken orally or rectally. Vasoconstriction, an effect which constricts the blood vessels and cools the skin, can occur in the early stages of a fever. In this case the person s temperature may be unusually low. Only use the ARC InstaTemp in climate temperatures ranging from 50-104 F (10-40 C). 15

PRECAUTIONS Outside of this range a --- will be displayed when a measurement is taken, repeat the measurement inside the 50-104 F (10-40 C) range after waiting at least 20 minutes. Do not subject the ARC InstaTemp to temperatures above 104 F (40 C) or below 45 F (7 C). Do not use outside or close to a heat or cooling source. Using the thermometer in these conditions may affect the accuracy of the temperature reading. Do not allow the ARC InstaTemp thermometer to become damp or immersed in water or other liquids. Do not touch the lens of the infrared sensor. The sensor is the most important and sensitive part of the device. Do not attempt to measure body temperature with the thermometer if: a) The thermometer has been exposed extreme conditions. b) It has been exposed to electric current or electromagnetic fields. c) It has been exposed to moisture. d) It has been dropped or shows any signs of damage or malfunction. e) If there is any visible dust or dirt on the device lens or in the device lens opening. Do not attempt to fix or repair the thermometer yourself. 16

PRECAUTIONS Do not attempt to replace the internal batteries, The internal batteries are non-removable, non-replaceable and non-serviceable. Do not open the thermometer casing. If the device touches or comes in contact with the person: a) Do not take a measurement for 5 minutes, b) Check the device lens and opening for contaminants, c) To clean the device please use a standard IPA wipe. CLEANING damage. Do not touch the lens of the sensor. It is the most delicate part of the ARC InstaTemp thermometer and must be protected from dirt and 17

CLEANING Do not immerse the ARC InstaTemp in water or other liquids. It is not water resistant. Take care not to scratch the lens of the sensor, the display or the housing. Never use aggressive cleaning agents. Clean the thermometer using an IPA wipe. 18

DISPOSAL This symbol means that according to local laws and regulations your product should be disposed of separately from household waste. Please note this product contains batteries and magnets and therefore must be disposed of according to local laws and regulations. Do not dispose of this product in a fire as batteries may explode when exposed to excessive heat. When this product reaches its end of life, take it to a collection point designated by local authorities. Some collection points accept products for free. The separate collection and recycling of your product at the time of disposal will help conserve natural resources and ensure that it is recycled in a manner that protects human health and the environment. Consult your municipal authority or your dealer for information about disposal. 19

ICON IDENTIFICATION This instruction manual belongs to this device. It contains important information about starting up and operation of the thermometer. Read the instruction manual carefully as non-observance of these instructions can result in serious injury or damage to the device. Caution: consult section titled Understanding the Temperature Range Indicator System and Taking a Temperature. Measurement Accuracy (Laboratory Error) ASTM laboratory accuracy requirements in the display range 98.6 F to 102.2 F (37.0 C to 39.0 C) for IR thermometers is +/-0.4 F (+/-0.2 C) within the operating temperature range of 59 F to 95 F (15 C to 35 C ) per ASTM standard 1965-98. Whereas for Mercury in glass and electronic thermometers, the requirement per ASTM Standards E667-86 and E1112-86 is +/-0.2 F (+/- 0.1 C). 21

WARRANTY Limited two year warranty ARC Devices warrants this product against any defects that are due to faulty material or workmanship for a period of two years from the original date of consumer purchase. This warranty applies when used for normal household use in accordance with the Use and Care Manual and excludes the battery and damage to the product resulting from accident or misuse. This product is not warranted when used in a professional environment. In no event shall ARC Devices be liable for any special, incidental, indirect or consequential damages in connection with the purchase or use of this product or costs over the original cost of the product. If the product should become defective within the warranty period or for questions regarding operation of the ARC InstaTemp thermometer, contact ARC Devices Customer Support Department -- Monday-Friday 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM ET -- at +1 561-282-6074 for general operational questions, repair or replacement at no charge. ARC Devices reserves the right to replace a defective product with the most comparable product currently available. Should service be required during or after the warranty period, you must call ARC InstaTemp s Customer Service Department to obtain a return authorization number and shipping address. Repackage the thermometer carefully in its original packaging or securely packed to avoid damage during shipping. Include the original sales slip indicating the date of purchase, a note describing the problem, your authorization number, and your return address. While this warranty gives you specific legal rights, you may also have other rights which vary from state to state or province to province. 23
