sears CrEsCENT ANd COrNHILL The Sears Crescent building on Cornhill, home of the 41st office of The First National Bank of Boston, was built by one david Sears around 1840 - in Victorian imitation of the Tontine Crescent of Charles Bulfinch, the great architect of the Federal Period. Of the many structures that crowded Cornhill during the 19th century, it is the only survivor. looking out on the contemporary architecture of Boston s resplendent new Government Center, Sears Crescent has been preserved not as an attempt to recreate the past but as a very part of the past itself. as a matter of interest to our customers and friends, we present this thumbnail history of Cornhill.
