He has a BS degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin - Madison, and has worked for Air Products and Chemicals, ABB, and Aspen Technology, primarily in process control systems. A Safety Instrumented System (SIS) is an independent system composed of sensors, logic solvers, and final control elements for the purpose of taking the process to a safe state when pre-determined conditions are violated. With a safety system, the concern shouldn t so much be with how the system operates, but rather how the system fails. Topics - Functional Safety review - Industry standards - Independent protection layers - Separation between control and safety systems - Safety integrity level (SIL) selection - Safety requirements specification - Safety Lifecycle Process Meeting Details Location: Fluor, 47 Discover, Irvine Date: Wednesday, February 8 Time: 5pm Networking; 5:45pm Career Assistance; 6pm Program RSVP to Manny Martinez at (562) 334-5057 or Manny.E.Martinez@fluor.com Map and More Info: www.isaoc.org Instrumentation 2012 Expo & Training Wednesday, Feb, 22, 2012 at Carson Convention Center Instrumentation 2012 is the largest exhibition and training event on the west coast dedicated to process instrumentation, control and automation. Career Training ISA Safety and Security Division Symposium April 24-26, 2012 at Crowne Plaza in Anaheim Sponsored by the ISA Safety and Security Division, the 2012 ISA Safety & Security Symposium will provide an in-depth look at today s safety technologies and procedures associated with identifying and mitigating safety hazards in industrial environments. This symposium will present two technical tracks; one focusing on safety topics, such as Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), standards, alarm management; and one covering topics related to security, including cybersecurity, control systems security, security standards, and much more. Papers and presentations will cover process automation solutions, design challenges, best practices, and lessons learned all critical areas for industrial automation safety and security. The full two days of programming will include technical presentations, and demonstrations that will challenge attendees and presenters alike, providing practical and useful guidance for designing industrial processes, selecting SIS, and protecting these systems against cyber threats and unsafe dangerous failures alike. A full program will include expert-led sessions, training, social functions, vendor exhibits, and more at the Crowne Plaza Anaheim Resort, Anaheim, California, USA. Keep your processes safe and secure get the tips, tricks, and know-how at the 2012 ISA Safety & Security Symposium Keeping plants protected from dangerous failures and unsafe conditions is always a high priority. With the continued emergence of integrated safety systems, increased integration of business systems to the shop floor, increased awareness of security vulnerabilities and with hazards in industrial processes, asset owners and suppliers are turning an increasing level of attention to protecting processes not only against random hardware faults and safety integrity levels, but also in protecting processes from cybersecurity failures that can have safety impacts. Discuss applications and solutions with vendors and solutions providers during scheduled exhibits and networking breaks. Why attend?
