The wine cellar takes main stage in this open-concept home. STORY GINA MAKKAR BEAUTIFULLYBold PHOTOGRAPHY JASON HARTOG Never judge a book by its cover. That s certainly the case with a beautiful Lorne Park custom build that was the vision of Huguette Lirette and Brian Beaulieu. The couple first fell in love with the area while visiting friends, and decided to embark on their own custom build. They called on Rosalia Fazzari, designer and owner of Tapestry Décor to help bring their vision to reality. Continued on page 40 38 ourhomes FALL 2016 ourhomes FALL 2016 39
HHaving worked with the couple before, Rosalia was confident when she set about implementing a design she knew would suit both their needs. We got Rosie involved from the start. She had done some work in our previous home and we knew that she understood our style, says Huguette. Rosalia worked alongside the architect technician from the beginning to ensure the design vision was carried through. From the outside, the unassuming bungalow is perfectly at home within its landscape. Beautiful details, from the warm exterior by Artizan Interior and Exterior Finishings Inc. to the rich, dark window frames and charming portico, exude sweet simplicity. Landscaping by Louie s Landscaping & Designing Inc. provides lovely curb appeal out front and a relaxing oasis out back. Just inside the front door, splendour awaits. I love the unpretentious exterior and surprise first impression the interior provides, says Huguette. The door opens to reveal unfettered sightlines and a full view of the home from the front to the back. A magnificent wine cellar, the jewel of the main living area, is trimmed in four species of exotic wood and enclosed with glass. To the right, oversize walnut doors slide open to reveal a fresh, contemporary office space. RIGHT: A spectacular backsplash from Dynamic Flooring Concepts brightens the kitchen. BELOW: With no walls, guests can drift comfortably but stay connected to the festivities. ABOVE: Rosalia Fazzari stands with clients Brian Beaulieu and Huguette Lirette in the finished kitchen. RIGHT: A casual sitting area by the kitchen is great for entertaining. BELOW: Stacked lava stone is a striking in the stairwell that leads to the lower level. Just to the left, an informal seating area next to the kitchen extends the living area and provides a place for quiet conversation. In the kitchen, a white and silver backsplash in a diamond pattern offers a splash of glamour. Smoked glass in the upper cabinets brightens the space but still allows kitchen essentials to remain concealed. Rich Van Gogh leathered quartzite countertops from Interstone Marble & Granite Ltd. add a touch of darkness and connect the kitchen to the darker elements throughout the space. We wanted a casual yet elegant home, says Huguette. A place where we could entertain and our guests would feel comfortable. The couple didn t really have a wish list, but knew that they didn t want a living room or dining room, s they felt were often underutilized. Instead, they designed a table that can be used daily but also accommodate seating for 12 when they entertain. Continued on page 42 40 ourhomes FALL 2016 ourhomes FALL 2016 41
Areas throughout are delineated by subtle transitions, like the shift from clean white cabinetry in the kitchen to the rich built-ins and the beamed ceiling over the family room area. Warm walnut tones mixed with a lava stone wall and the floor-to-ceiling doors at the back of the home bring natural elements in. The rich walnut of the coffee table connects the sliding doors at the front of the home to the back and provides cohesiveness. Italian porcelain slabs from Interstone Marble & Granite Ltd. were cut and fabricated to create a stunning fireplace focal point. Lots of planning and thought led into this, says Rosalia. All of the elements needed to flow and work together within this bungalow. Continued on page 45 ABOVE: Stately columns and the warm stone facade exude curb appeal. The master suite becomes luxurious with elements like a custom headboard, mosaic tile shower, sitting area and well-designed closet. BOTTOM LEFT: A lovely spare room is a home away from home for guests. Down the hallway, the master retreat awaits. A custom floor-to-ceiling, built-in headboard is a dark, dramatic focal point. Trim work on the ceiling provides subtle texture. Lighting from Lando Lighting provides moody glamour. A textured area rug completes the space. In the master en suite, large grey porcelain tiles blend seamlessly with the grey and white mosaic tiles that surround the zero barrier shower. The colour scheme continues in the custom walk-in closet, where plenty of storage includes shelving and enclosed wardrobes. Continued on page 46 44 ourhomes FALL 2016 ourhomes FALL 2016 45

All of the design aspects, from the room size and the cabinetry choice to the paint, trim style and accessories were carefully selected and the work was carried out by Rosalia s trusted team of trades. Rosalia starts each new client project with an interview. I interview them as they would interview me, she says. She takes what she learns from the interview and pulls from it. Getting to know what they like is important, but getting to know what they don t like is just as important. As previous clients, Rosalia focused on using what she knew about the couple s individual styles to create a balanced aesthetic that would reflect both of them. They were amazing to work with, and gave me the creative ability to create a beautiful flow throughout their home that reflects their specific styles. All the elements speak to their style and make it their home, says Rosalia. Huguette wanted the interior design to project a cool, casual vibe with a touch of elegance. I think that was achieved, she says.
