With boutiques across North America, Aritzia curates a collection of fashion brands, including 13 of their own house brands - Wilfred, TNA, Bobaton and Talula to name a few. Aritzia boutiques are very popular spots, attracting a steady stream of local shoppers and tourists. While their retail spaces are designed to be lounge-like and inviting with ambient lighting and luxuriously warm finishes, Aritzia changes their quirky window displays every six weeks. With over 60 locations across the continent, window display changes and rollouts occur on tight timelines and require careful budgeting.
PRODUCTION PLAN 1 Two half-eggs vacuum formed from white acrylic the PROJECT Aritzia s vision for their Fall 2013 avian-themed window display incorporated backdrops of multicoloured leather plumage and oversized iridescent eggs. 2 Two halves are fabricated together In the summer of 2013, Aritzia met with Peregrine s creative design and engineering team to develop and fabricate eighty 3.5 foot tall egg props, intended for roll out in their window displays across North America. 3 Seams and outside of egg are sanded to a matte finish By placing emphasis on store design and the shopping environment, retailers can differentiate the image of their brand and, ultimately, the overall success of their business. An alluring atmosphere provides added value for customers and increases the likelihood of mood-related and impulse purchasing. 4 Sanded egg is cut in half the CHALLENGE 5 Iridescent colour shift paint paint appliet to exterior Although a visually simple design, smooth delivery of this project relied on a detailed production plan: three separate egg designs and eighty custom built eggs were required on a tight, 2-3 month deadline. The Peregrine team s main challenge lay in the task of creating a three dimensional shape with flowing lines. It was equally crucial that an appropriate material be used - one that would mould to the exact shape of the egg designs, but would also be capable of receiving the iridescent automotive paint finish that would make this display so visually stunning. the PROCESS Peregrine provides a full roster of services, from custom design to manufacture to delivery and installation. The Peregrine team was able to work with Aritzia from the visioning stage through to the installation phase of their window display roll out, and provide them the custom-designed and fabricated props they required for a completely unique piece of window art. After creating a detailed plan, custom egg molds were constructed and the team used vacuum thermoforming technology to create perfectly rounded egg halves out of white acrylic. The halves were then carefully glued together, any voids filled in, and the seams sanded to mimic the uninterrupted surface of an egg. Each one of our projects have significance, not only for our clients, but for us as well. We're invested in the time, process, and work it takes to realize the vision and we enjoy the idea of building projects that can't be found anywhere else. Working with our clients throughout the process to ensure our work fits within the original scope of the project, we utilize the most cost effective materials and production methods possible.
the OUTCOME The project was delivered on time and on budget by Peregrine s project management and technical teams in Vancouver. Installation was carefully planned and coordinated to be as unintrusive as possible to Aritzia customers and staff. The avian inspired window display, with its luminous, custom-crafted eggs, and multi-hued leather plumage, was launched across the Aritzia portfolio, including at the popular Granville Street location in Vancouver and other popular stores. The Peregrine team achieved excellent representation of the initial concept. In turn, the visually arresting display realized maximum impact and proved to be a great success for Aritzia. Creativity, vividness, dynamics and messaging are key attributes of a successful visual design campaign.
