The following program areas were reviewed March 9-10, 2015: Guidance Guidance Suite Gifted Suite Science (Chemistry, Biology, Physics) General Classrooms Business Education (Labs, Classrooms, Jag Den) Media Center Art (2D Studio, 3D Studio) Administrative Suite Health Suite Waiting Area Room is required for approximately 8-10 students in the waiting area. TJHS noted that maintaining visibility of these students while they wait is important. The Career Center will serve as an overflow for students in the Waiting Room. As such, the wall between the Waiting Room and the Career Center should be glass to allow for supervision from the front desk. A copier should be provided adjacent to the front desk in the Waiting Area. The Cumulative room will be located adjacent to the front desk in the Waiting Area. To allow for privacy of students in the Waiting Area, a portion of the wall shared with the Main Corridor and the Guidance Suite should be solid. Both the Testing and Cumulative rooms should have corridor access. Cumulative storage should include lockable lateral shelving. Testing storage should have 2 D metal shelving; this space will be located at the east end of the corridor. Work Room The Work Room will be used as a meeting space for the Guidance Suite staff with a glass wall to the interior corridor. It will include a kitchenette and table for 4-6. Conference The conference room will seat 10-12 and should have a glass wall to the interior corridor.
WTW Project No. 71-4012 Page 2 of 9 Offices Guidance office furniture should be situated so that Counselor s desks are closer to the door than the guest chairs. 4 marker board and 4 tack board will be provided. Two 4 lateral files will be provided. 3 guest chairs will be provided at each office. Career Center 3 round tables with 4 chairs each will be provided. The computer stations will move to the west wall to allow for supervision from the Waiting Area. Privacy glass will be provided to counter height. The projector and marker board will be located on north wall. The counter work space along the east wall will consist of both open and closed base cabinet storage with tackable surface above a continuous workcounter. Gifted Office Overall plan moves There should be access to the Project/Resource room from both the Guidance suite corridor and the main building corridor. Gifted Offices will have access directly from the main corridor as well as the Project/Resource room. Project/Resource The capacity of the room should be 10-12 students with movable worktables for flexibility. There will be a glass wall at counter height into the Project/Resource room to allow visibility from the main corridor. Below there will be a counter and base cabinets. 4 of tall storage will be provided. The projector and marker board will be located on the north wall. There will be two desktop computers. 2 metal shelving Office Two desks with two visitors chairs each should be provided. Lateral files will be located along the east wall. The door should include one sidelight to the interior corridor. The wall between the Office and Project/Resource room should be glass. Science There is an average of 25 students per class. Science labs will be designed to allow for 28 students. TJHS to confirm if stools are to be used at perimeter lab tables. Chemistry Lab - AP Chemistry Lab will be furnished with perimeter lab stations on the sides of the lab, with movable student tables and chairs in the center of the room (each table accommodates two students). Sinks will be provided at the perimeter cabinets between peninsula lab stations. A fume hood is required in this lab.
WTW Project No. 71-4012 Page 3 of 9 Chemistry Prep/ Room - AP Chemistry The Prep and rooms will be combined and will require access to the adjacent lab as well as the main corridor. Chemical area will be combined in this room. Equipment Required: Deionized water station (TJHS to provide cut sheet of preferred model), refrigerator, sink, dishwasher, flammable storage cabinet, acid storage cabinet, metal storage cabinet, glass door storage for organics, shelving with lip (no doors) for chemicals, double-sided fume hood, wall cabinets where possible, and base cabinets with large drawers. Chemistry Lab - Academic ChemistryC Lab will be furnished with perimeter lab stations on the sides of the lab, with movable student tables and chairs in the center of the room (each table accommodates two students). Sinks will be provided at the perimeter cabinets between peninsula lab stations. In the southern lab, there will be wall access to a double sided fume hood. In the northern lab, a single fume hood will be required. Chemistry Prep/ (Dry ) The Prep and rooms will be combined and will require access to the adjacent lab as well as the main corridor. The Prep/ room will be reduced to allow proper circulation in the room, yet provide more space for the adjacent labs. Equipment Required: One double-sided fume hood, under counter ice machine, sink, tall metal shelving. Space should be allocated in this room to provide parking area for larger, mobile items required by the curriculum. Biology Labs Lab will be furnished with perimeter lab stations on the sides of the lab, with movable student tables and chairs in the center of the room (each table accommodates two students). Sinks will be provided at the perimeter cabinets between peninsula lab stations. Glass wall cabinets will be provided above the work stations on the perimeter. Gas is required at the teacher demonstration stations, not required at student lab stations. Biology Prep/ The Prep and rooms will be combined and will require access to the adjacent lab as well as the main corridor. Doors should be provided adjacent to 2 sided fume hoods to allow for supervision. Space should be allocated in these rooms to provide storage for larger, mobile items required by the curriculum. There will be two distinct uses for the Prep/ rooms. Room 1 Equipment Required: o Refrigerator, tall storage for specimens, double-sided fume hood, base and wall cabinets where possible, tall, open metal storage. Room 2 Equipment Required: o Refrigerator, teachers wardrobe, flammable storage base cabinet, acid storage base cabinet, base and wall cabinets above where possible, double-sided fume hood, tall, open metal storage. Physics Labs The two Physics labs will move westward to overlook the entry vestibule. There will be two distinct layouts for the Physics Labs.
WTW Project No. 71-4012 Page 4 of 9 Physics Lab 1 Requirements: o Lab will be furnished with perimeter lab stations on the sides of the lab, with movable student tables and chairs in the center of the room (each table accommodates two students). Sinks will be provided at the perimeter cabinets between peninsula lab stations. Physics Lab 2 Requirements: o Lab will be furnished with linear, island lab tables equipped with power with no riser in the center to promote visibility. Sinks will be provided in the perimeter counter. There will be movable student desks with two chairs for lecture teaching positioned towards the teaching wall. Physics Prep/ The Prep and rooms will be combined and will require access to the adjacent lab as well as the main corridor. Replace dishwasher with under counter ice machine There is no need for a refrigerator. Greenhouse Show movable metal shelving and worktables around perimeter and in center of room; this furniture will be NIC and purchased by THJS. A stainless steel work sink and counter will be provided, as well as a central floor drain. Infrastructure for a future misting system will be provided. Classrooms (English, Social Studies, Math, Foreign Lang) The following standards will be applied to all instructional spaces for continuity: o TJHS requested that the paired classroom entrances be staggered in the corridors to increase ability to supervise the corridors from less control points. o TJHS prefers double-tier 18 W x 3 H lockers in corridors. o Classroom doors will be solid with glass sidelights. Additional windows may be located above head height to allow for borrowed light fron classrooms to enter the corridors without sacrificing safety. o The low shelving along the window wall in the classroom will include a combination of open shelving and lockable cabinet doors. o TJHS is currently utilizing wall-mounted short throw projectors in many classrooms, with more installations scheduled in the existing building. TJHS prefers mobile interactive whiteboards for the new building to allow for maximum flexibility and multiple classroom configurations. o Provide power and data at 3 corners of classroom (not required at corner near door) to support multiple teaching desk and interactive white board locations. o Lighting dual switching (potentially dimmable with LED) o Provide parking space for one mobile laptop/tablet cart in each classroom o Provide multiple charging locations for devices at bookshelf counter along window wall. Investigate 5V USB receptacles for charging of personal devices. Typical classroom furniture shown will be based on Steelcase Verb tables and Node chairs to illustrate multiple teaching and learning environments. This furniture will be selected and furnished under separate contract.
WTW Project No. 71-4012 Page 5 of 9 Business Ed Business Education Labs Desks with be paired with two computers on tables in rows. A work counter will be provided opposite the teaching wall for 10 students. One business lab includes a forensics program that requires worktables for groups working on computer hardware. These will be located on the wall opposite the main teaching wall and should include multiple power/data drops. Area for 2 printers should be provided. Area for four 4 lateral file cabinets should be provided. The faculty emphasized the important of maintaining eye contact with students while they are working at their stations. Images of workstations that could accomplish this are attached. Space for mobile carts is not required in labs. Business Education Classrooms These two classrooms can be reduced to 850 SF from the 1000 SF stated in program. The resulting 300sf will be reallocated to serve storage needs of other programs on the Lower Level. Entrances to rooms should be paired to increase supervision of corridor. The faculty emphasized the importance of allowing enough room between desks to allow one on one work with students. Jag Den School Store / Retail Area Area for two clothing rounders will be provided. Faculty will consider display pieces for store front. Retail lighting for display walls should be provided. Provide dedicated power for commercial grade refrigerator and microwave. Work Room Space for embroidery machine is not required. Do not require side counter for heat presses. Allow area for heat presses and work space. room will be divided between Jag Den and Business Education. Jag Den storage will comprise of tall storage with doors. Bus Education storage will comprise of open metal shelving. Media Center Reading Room / Main Stacks Area No security gates will be required; book security system will not be utilized. Area at entry of media center has been identified as a quiet lounge area. Allow area for mobile devices and periodical display (approx. 50 volumes), while still maintaining visibility to the central stair beyond. The card catalog station will be a stand up kiosk for 2 computers. Could potentially serve as additional work stations. Floor outlets should be provided at lounge seating areas in reading room. Pop up outlets should be provided at counter/high seating areas in reading room.
WTW Project No. 71-4012 Page 6 of 9 Media specialist requested a central touch down desk located in main reading room for more direct access for students. Images of workstations that could accomplish this are attached. Media Equipment The storage area provided is sufficient; provide open metal shelving ata 12 and 24 depths. Project Development Room Glass should be provided to allow visibility into reading room. Circulation Desk Space should be provided for a mobile returns cart adjacent to circulation desk. Glass should be provided to allow visibility into work room. Instructional Area Media specialist suggested movable student worktables rather than chair with tablet arm. Capacity remains 30 students. There is no need for the shelving to isolate/separate instructional area. Potentially the shelving could be mobile carts that could be used to further distinguish space within instructional space. Media Production Capacity of 24 student desktop workstations is sufficient. The green screen wall for filming will be moved to the Media Editing room. Media Editing Green screen will be located along eastern wall with a digital gray background beyond. Four student desktop workstations should be provided. Art Typical Studio Notes Display gallery should be provided along art corridor. Overhead power on retractable/coiling reels should be provided in each studio above worktable locations. 2d Art Studio Movable 2 x5 tables should be provided; show tables in a U-shape configuration for 18-20 students. The still life table will be situated in the center of the table seating with the potential of storage underneath. Fixed along west wall includes spray booth, teacher wardrobe, tall supply storage, 2 project storage cabinets. Space for mobile drying racks should also be provided along this wall. 3d Art Studio A distinct metals area is not required per the art staff; this program would be difficult to run tandem to a pottery course in the same lab. Space for 18 students is required; show paired desks with two seats facing each other. Computer desks will not be required should be replaced with 2 sinks and counter space. (Similar to front entry wall) Space for a slab roller should be provided in center of studio. Space for a pug mill is required, adjacent to potter s wheel area. At rear of room, provide 1 tall storage cabinet for clay with doors and two 4 open metal shelving racks. Floor drains with clay trap as well as a hose bib should be provided.
WTW Project No. 71-4012 Page 7 of 9 Access to storage will consist of double doors to storage from 3D studio and a 3-6 door from corridor. Along west wall, provide 24 metal shelving. Along east wall, provide 30 metal shelving. Space for a 4 x4 palette of bulk clay should be provided in the eastern back corner. Kiln room Kilns should be docked along eastern wall. Metal shelving should be provided in room. One sink is required. Administration (HS) LCD screens will be located in Secure Check-In and General Reception for announcements. Remove coat closet, dedicate area to general storage room. Work Room Corridor along work room will serve as faculty check-in point and will have through-wall mailboxes to work room as well as storage below for larger parcels. The door between Administration and this will remain locked from Faculty side. Space for a copier should be included in room for faculty use. Admin/Secretary An electric lock on door from General Reception to Administration corridor is required for guests to be granted access. Area for a shared printer in administrative area should be provided. Both the Administrative Assistant and Financial Secretary should have equal visibility to the Administration Desk. Administrative Assistant requires space for a computer and two 4 lateral files. Financial Secretary requires space for computer, one private printer, and a U-shaped workstation. Low shelving should be provided along north wall. 4 Lateral files and space for safe should be provided in Secure. Health Overall plan revisions Tickets/Concession room is moved southward to allow for a more continuous space for waiting, as well as oversight of waiting area from Nurse s Office. The school nurse emphasized the need for visibility to all areas of the suite while still maintaining privacy as well as the important of having access to medical materials from any area in the suite. Waiting Waiting area should provide space for 6 students. One desk for part-time assistant should be provided. Phone should be located at assistant desk. Nurse s Office Vision panels to waiting, exam room, and rest area are required. Phone should be located in office.

Area to park wheelchair should be provided. Toilets Provide one small accessible toilet room and one large accessible toilet room. Large toilet room should be sized to accommodate changing/catheterizing patients. Rest area Three student beds should be provided with privacy curtains. Low counter with medical supplies will be provided adjacent to office with glass panel above. Exam Room Phone should be located in the exam room. Exam room should be acoustically separate from suite to allow for hearing tests. Bed should be located in a position for maximum visibility from the office.
