Comments from the past month: Pearl Street Entrance needs to be improved for safety for all pedestrians, bikes & vehicles Support for Round about at Pearl Street Entrance Support for two way traffic between Pearl Street, Zoo and Fort Nisqually Complaints about speeding, dogs off leashes and other violations (all of these impact safety, whether on foot, bike or in a car) Preference for a separated pedestrian/bike path between major Park destinations Continue to close 5 Mile Drive loop to vehicles at specific times Find safer way of managing cars and pedestrians along the roads around the bowl More parking needed at the zoo Create a shuttle service during busy times Better trail indicators and maps in more places with you are here markers
2015 MASTER PLAN UPDATE
Discussion Topics Divide the park into three zones. Active Area (Waterfront Zone) Zoo and Gardens (Activity Zone) Natural woodlands (Forest Zone) Include space for entertainment and concerts. Provide a Maintenance/Service Area within the Park. Siting the new aquarium within the Zoo area. Pagoda and Garden: Including the garden with a Japanese character. Walks along the top of the cliff should be protected by fences. Provide picnic areas of various sizes with water, light, grills, tables and seats. Conveniently locate restrooms. Forest Management Clear along the roads to remove fallen trees, dead standing ones that pose a hazard to visitors, and the removal of accumulated dead leaves and other materials to lessen the danger of fire. Maintain natural growth on the steep slopes Install water lines of sufficient size throughout the park Utilize native plants throughout the Forest Zone Prohibit smoking in the park Signage Provide attractive signs, uniform in size and lettering, marking the way to restrooms, picnic areas, viewpoints and buildings.
