START UP CHARGING CABLE CHARGING ON/OFF SWITCH IMPORTANT: Charge the Walker Alarm at least 6 hours; but not more than 24 hours. ➊ Turn switch to OFF position ➋ Plug in charging cable to the wall outlet and plug charging cable into the side charging port on the Walker Alarm. A YELLOW LED lights during charging. A GREEN LED indicates a full charge. The battery manufacturer recommends not to leave the battery in a charge function over 24 hours. 2 LOW BATTERY INDICATION After 8 hours or more of continuous normal use the YELLOW Low Battery Light will start to flash indicating 0-5 minutes left of battery charge. After the remaining 0-5 minutes is up, the Walker Alarm will CHIRP and flash YELLOW for about 2 seconds and then shut off. Note: Please read the information on lithium polymer batteries on page 0.
SUGGESTED BEST PRACTICE Select, measure and adjust walker to patient. STEP : MEASURE FROM WRIST TO FLOOR. STEP 2: WALKER IS ADJUSTED TO MEASUREMENT FROM STEP Follow the manufacturer s suggested procedures to fit each style of walker. SWITCH SET-UP ➊ Slide Cover open by lightly pressing down and forward on the rear of the cover. If needed, gently lift front with fingernail. ➋ To get the feel of the Dip switches, move a switch up or down with a tip of a ball point pen, feel when the switch engages into the up or down position. MATCHING WALKER ALARM TO PATIENT NEEDS The Walker Alarm device as shipped from the factory comes with 3 biofeedback controls TURNED ON or in the UP position: Factory Switch Setting Select which feature, and the number of features to be used based on impairment and assessment. SWITCH : Vibration Control. The ON position activates the VIBRATION sensory feature. Switch : Vibrate On/Off SWITCH 2: Sound Control. The ON position activates the BEEP audio alarm feature. SWITCH 3: Light Control. The ON position activates the LED light visual feature that flashes WHITE then RED or Glows GREEN. Switch 2: Beep Alarm On/Off Switch 3: Color Glow On/Off NOTE: The GREEN GLOW give the person the instant gratification that they are using the walker correctly. 4

TRAINING ON THE USE OF THE WALKER ALARM 5 INCH ALARM ZONE 6" OR GREATER ALARM ZONE Alarm Safe Zone Alarm 5" ALARM ZONE: This is the area between the patient and up to 5 inches away from the face of the Walker Alarm. Alarm will activate: The White LED flashes, then the Red LED flashes, the unit vibrates, then there is a BEEP Alarm. This alarm cycle will repeat until the patient moves back into the Safe Green Zone. SAFE ZONE: Walk with the walker keeping the Green LED light on. THIS IS YOUR TARGET STAY IN THE GREEN SAFE ZONE. 6" OR GREATER DISTANCE ALARM ZONE: This area is 6 inches OR GREATER away from the face of the Walker Alarm. Alarm will activate: The White LED flashes, then the Red LED flashes, the unit vibrates, then there is a BEEP Alarm. This alarm cycle will repeat until the patient moves forward into the Safe Green Zone. 7
SUGGESTED BEST PRACTICE Training or refreshing training patient in the use of the walker. CORRECT: One foot inside the walker. INCORRECT: Both feet are outside the walker. Follow this suggested procedure or similar for all types of walkers. If the patient has previous training in the use of the walker do a proficiency assessment to verify the patient is using the walker SAFELY. 8
THERAPY SESSION TIME GOOD TRAINING SENSORS Slide the Walker Alarm unit onto the slide bar mount that is installed on the walker you intend to use. ON/OFF SWITCH SLIDE BAR MOUNT The sensors must be facing the patient. Turn on the Walker Alarm using the ON/OFF switch on the side of the device. The patient has cognitive impairments The patient is too unsteady to walk unsupervised Any other circumstances which may effect an individuals balance (dehydration or illness for example) Any change in medical, physical, or cognitive condition LITHIUM-POLYMER BATTERY Supplied with the Walker Alarm a Lithium-Polymer Battery WITH Protection Circuit Module that protects the battery pack from over charging and over discharging, reducing the risk of explosion, fire and damage. CHARGER AND CHARGING All Walker Alarms will be supplied with UL approved chargers. If available, PC USB ports/hubs are acceptable when used with approved power supplies. Just ensure the charger used is a good one and is rated at 5V at 200mA or more. A YELLOW/GREEN charging LED is near the USB charging connector. With the charger plugged in, the computer shows the charging LED YELLOW anytime the battery is being charged, and GREEN when there is no current being supplied, indicating that the battery is fully charged. This is an important visual safety feature showing what the charger is doing related to the battery and is important that the responsible person has knowledge of this.
TROUBLESHOOTING Computer-based system alerts: Incorrect Switch Position If here is a continuous FLASHING RED LIGHT when turning on the Walker Alarm, turn it off, check the switch 4, 5 or 6 settings and turn it back on. When first turned on if the LED, vibrator, or buzzer doesn t work, turn the Walker Alarm off, check switches, 2, or 3 settings and turn it back on. Incorrect Distance Reading If a PURPLE LIGHT IS SEEN, IT IS DUE TO AN INCORRECT DISTANCE READING. The Walker Alarm computer will correct itself, thus no action is required.
