Overview of the Summit Shanghai International City Lighting Summit 2018 Date: 03-04 September 2018 Venue: Jumeirah Himalayas Hotel Shanghai No 1108, Meihua Road, Pudong New Area, Shanghai The first Shanghai International City Lighting Summit successfully concluded after a two-day gathering at the Jumeirah Himalayas Hotel. The summit was jointly organised by the Shanghai Trade Association of City Appearance and Environmental Sanitation Committee of City Landscape Lighting and the Shanghai Lighting Association. The summit also received support from the Shanghai Landscaping and City Appearance Administrative Bureau and LUCI Association. This high-level gathering featured 10 renowned speakers from both China and overseas, and welcomed attendees from across the lighting industry as well as from government and city-management level. The range and breadth of talks, from lighting design and integration to health aspects and human-centric lighting, ensured that there was plenty for attendees to contemplate from this unique gathering of the industry.

Chapter 2 The meaning of light to a city It is necessary to strike a balance between the development of urban lighting and economy. Urban lighting design should take local culture and identity into consideration. It is more than lighting up a city. Urban lighting beautifies a city with creative and innovative designs. Mr Qinghua Ding, Director Shanghai Landscaping & City Appearance Administrative Bureau Urban lighting has a fantastic potential to help our cities become more beautiful, safer and smarter for all. It can be a powerful tool to support social, economic and cultural development in a sustainable way. The best and sustainable lighting design improves the quality of life. It is also a strategic tool to achieve a shared growth community and healthy China. Chapter 3 & 4 Lighting up our city Chapter 3 The glory and the dream To best showcase a range of city lighting solutions, this year s fair organised a number of scenic zones. Well-known domestic companies such as Guangzhou Yajiang Photoelectric Equipment and Jiangsu Pozen Optoelectronics Technology set up exhibits which allowed visitors to see the real-life applications of products including smart street lamps, outdoor projection lights and lighting to enhance public areas and parks. Chapter 4 Huangpu River Cruise A cruise down Huangpu River should be an essential item on any visitor s itinerary in Shanghai. The sheer number and variety of lighting displays on either side of the river provide ample inspiration for lighting enthusiasts.
Chapter 5 & 6 The future of landscape lighting Chapter 5 When science meets arts The principle functions of landscape lighting include the followings: 1. Enhance city image and gain reputation 2. This can be achieved by taking the individual conditions of a cityscape into consideration, by creating an identity that transports the familiarity of a sight from daylight to night.
