Course programme Day 2 09.00-10.00 Innovation projects, facing the future challenges with the Climate KIC - Colloquium with Arianna CECCHI and Carolina MATEO 10.00-12.00 Be communicative, be innovative! Contamination Lab, working groups Participants split into non-homogeneous groups, each group works on a specific topic/problem, mainly selected among those identified the day before. Focusing the starting problem, different perspectives and competences of participants will contribute to identify a common vision of the key point and sketch possible solutions. 12.00-13.00 Lunch 13.00-15.00 Preparation of presentation - working groups Groups realize short power point presentations based on the work done during the contamination lab session. Main speakers Sergio PISTOI, Expert in science communication, chair of the course Science writer and a book author with a PhD in molecular biology. Journalistic credits include Scientific American, Reuters, the New Scientist, Nature and many others. As a consultant, he helps scientists disseminating their work to the public and the media. He likes to produce and read/hear/watch stories that are compelling, sharp and accurate. I have also covered positions in research management and strategic planning of science. Sergio last book "Il DNA incontra Facebook" (Marsilio, 2012), a narrative non-fiction about the rise of genetic social networking, was awarded the Galileo Award in Italy in 2013. Jürgen KROPP, Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) He has a PhD in theoretical physics and is a professor for Climate Change and Sustainable Development at Potsdam University, Dept. of Earth and Environmental Sciences. At PIK he acts as deputy chair of research domain II: Climate Impacts and Vulnerabilities and heads the Climate Change & Development Research Group. He is appointed Editor-in-Chief of the new journal Challenges in Sustainability and member of the Editorial Board of Regional Environmental Change journal. In 2012 he was awarded by the renowned CleanTechMedia award for the foundation of the Climate Media Factory Potsdam (Climate-KIC affiliate), an innovative media lab for science communication which is supported by PIK and Potsdam Film University. His research interests are devoted to the analysis of man environment interactions, namely the development of concepts allowing an assessment of transition pathways to sustainability and systematic city research. In this context he is director of two large European funded (FP7) projects. Organisational issues Who can participate The course is addressed to 20 participants selected among public administrators, researchers and business representatives working in different fields and with different roles, dealing with climate change challenges, sustainability, green economy. Participants are expected to come from European countries of the South and Mediterranean area. The course is in English, sufficient language skills are required.
