ARS Water cooled water chillers, scroll compressors, brazed plate exchanger, R410A refrigerant gas. Heat pump by hydronic circuit inversion, condenserless unit. Minimum 2 compressors for each circuit. EER 4,7; ESEER 6. Units designed for commercial or industrial applications, where required a good protection from freezing. Only for indoor installation. Cooling capacity from 63 up to 577 kw Heating capacity from 66 up to 598 kw R410A refrigerant www.rigelimpianti.it 3

Available versions CHILLER: basic version to be associate, for example, with a separate dry-cooler or using ground water and/or with a hydronic hot user plant. HEAT PUMP: with inversion on hydronic circuit. - This version is identical to chiller unit, but the control is based on hot water temperature, when switched to heat pump mode. - This unit need to invert the user water flow from the evaporator (chiller mode) to the condenser (heat pump mode) so to have hot water for the user. - The inversion on hydronic circuit shall be done by external devices not supplied with the unit. SILENT: unit equipped with soundproof compressors. CONDENSERLESS UNITS: these units are supplied without integrated condenser; they can be connected with an outdoor air-cooled condenser; optimal solution for very cold climate can easily solve the problem to protect against the freezing, the circuits with water inside. PARTIAL HEAT RECOVERY (desuperheater): an heat exchanger is inserted along the compressors discharge line before the condenser, it s able to desuperheat the hot gas and produces hot water up to 55 C. - The amount of recovered energy is around the 30% of the cooling energy production. TOTAL HEAT RECOVERY: a water condenser is inserted on the discharge line of the compressors in parallel with the water condenser, when the recovery circuit is not satisfied, a changeover valve diverts the refrigerant hot gas in the water condenser, to transfer the total condensing energy on the hot water circuit. - The amount of recovered energy is around the 135% of the cooling energy production. CLIENT: units with special equipment or devices on request. 4 www.rigelimpianti.it

Features Structure of electro-galvanized and painted steel sheet Water condensed water chiller with scroll compressors Ecological refrigerant R410A This refrigerant R410A with zero ozone depletion potential (ODP=0) together with a very low value for the global warming effective potential, is the best choice for circuits with scroll compressors. Thanks to its characteristics of heat transfer and its heat capacity in the gas phase, allows high yields of condensers. R410A www.rigelimpianti.it 5

Scroll compressors two or three high-efficiency scroll compressors, on each circuit refrigerator for maximum energy efficiency at partial loads. The choice of scroll compressor allows you to have low vibration and noise emissions. Reliability is high thanks to the reduced number of moving parts and to the high capacity of the compressor to adapt to many different conditions. Scroll Compressor section Due to its construction, hermetic scroll compressors withstand at flooded start much better than the piston or screw compressors (in faulty conditions). In addition thanks to have multiple compressors on the same circuit, when only one of them is started (this happens during many hours in a year) it can work with oversized of the heat exchangers and this produce a bigger efficiency during working conditions partialized. The example is as follows: If a circuit with two compressors has a value of EER= 2.70 W/W, when on the same circuit only one compressor operates the EER value climbs to 3.74 W/W; the result of this technology is that the value of ESEER (seasonal average efficiency) increases much more than in chillers with only one compressor per circuit. Brazed plates condensers Brazed plate condenser Made in stainless steel specifically designed for R410A. In addition to a very high mechanical resistance, due to the use of stainless steel, they have high corrosion resistance. These condensers works in perfect countercurrent and allow to have very low condensing temperature compared to other kind of condensers, for maximize EER performance. 6 www.rigelimpianti.it

Brazed plates evaporators specifically designed for R410A, made in stainless steel. In addition to a very high mechanical resistance, due to the use of stainless steel, they have high corrosion resistance. These evaporators works in perfect countercurrent, and allow to have very high evaporation temperature compared to other kind of evaporator, to maximize EER performance. An integrated distributor guarantees a perfect equalization of the refrigerant gas flow inside each plate heat exchanger, for maximum performances. Brazed plate evaporator Thermostatic expansion valves As standard all chillers are equipped with thermostatic expansion valves to ensure a return of dry gas to the compressor. www.rigelimpianti.it 7

Electronic expansion valves on request by request the unit can be equipped with electronic expansion valves. These valves, via an electronic driver, a temperature sensor and a pressure transmitter, are able to provide a more precise value of superheating. The graph below shows the effect of switching between the operation of a chiller with a TEV (thermostatic expansion valve) to an EEV (electronic expansion valve). The lowering of the average superheat value, the stability of the value itself and the operating pressure are clearly evident. Carel controllers and Electronic Expansion Valve 8 www.rigelimpianti.it

Electronic regulation by a microprocessor card for the management and control of all functional parameters. The controls normally used are parametric products of Carel. For chillers up to 4 compressors the used control is μc2-se. For the other units is used μc3 with a semigraphic terminal, where available languages are English, Italian and Spanish. On request or for special units, it is possible use controllers belonging to family Carel pco or from other manufacturers. In any case, the functions controlled are: a. inlet water temperature control, with the alternative possibility of adjusting the output water temperature; b. management capacity control of cooling and heating capacity by turning on and off the compressors depending on the request of the hydronic circuit; the control is such that the number of operating hours of each compressor is the same for everyone; c. prevent high pressure - this function allows you to turn off one of the compressors on the same circuit when the condensing pressure rises too much; d. condensing pressure control by a PWM or 0..10V signal, able to manage a modulating valve or a fan speed controller (only for Condenserless unit) e. antifreeze heaters (when installed) - a set of heaters protect the evaporator circuits containing water when their temperature drops below the safety threshold; f. low noise mode (only for Condenserless unit) this feature as standard on SILENT version chillers allows you to change the fan speed adjustment in the night hours, reducing noise emission; g. circulation pump control; h. second circulation pump; i. rotation pumps (active only in the presence of the double pump); j. burst function (pump switched on only when needed) - this feature allows a considerable energy saving and to manage automatically the turning off pump for only as long as is necessary - this function is useful when you have constant flow on chiller side circuit and variable flow on the system side circuit by inserting a manifold by-pass between them: the maximum benefit is obtained when the buffer tank is placed in the stream user system; k. flow switch; l. water temperature set point variable by outdoor air temperature (sliding set temperature) or by external contact; m. communication with supervisory systems; n. general circuit alarm; o. anti freeze alarm. μc2se μc3 semigraphic terminal www.rigelimpianti.it 9

Hydronic circuit The unit is normally equipped with Victaulic flexible couplings complete with clamps and solder terminal tubes. On request the unit can be completed with: flow switch (to be installed by the user, near the inlet connection of the unit ), antifreeze heater for evaporator, circulating pump for evaporator, circulating pump for condenser or second circulating pump for evaporator, water safety valve, water filter. It is possible to choose between low pressure pump, and high pressure pump. For special requirements is possible to install special pumps. In the following pictures different costructive solutions regarding the hydronic kit are shown. Note: for units equipped with the hydronic kit the flow switch is integrated in the unit. Note: water filters are supplied separately from the unit, to be installed by the user. Note: for compatibility of heat recovery and hydronic kit please contact the manufacturer.
