1721 NORTH SHEFFIELD Case Study 2006 Lincoln Park

Studio Dwell Architects believes in the quality of space created with simple forms and light, to encourage people to experience architecture, not just walk within it.
Located in Lincoln Park north of downtown Chicago, the 1721 North Sheffield development needed to blend with the area s brownstones and accommodate the up-scale active lifestyles of urban living. To articulate the building envelope, two main materials where introduced; brick and standingseam metal. Both materials create a harmonious composition for all four sides of the residence. It could be said that this residence has only front elevations and no rear elevations. The exteriors are also carefully designed to disguise the arrangements of the residential units and provide landscaped exterior terraces. Working collaboratively, the developer and architect found innovative solutions for the site. The award winning architectural team of Studio Dwell Architects and Ranquist Development, jointly worked out the site stragegies, building plan configurations and the material palette through a series of design workshops.
