LIGHTING CONTROLS Smart Enough to Work Right Out of the Box

Welcome Installing efficient lighting and/or lighting controls are a couple of prime options building owners turn to in order to reduce energy costs, but meeting today s ever-evolving energy codes and regulations can be daunting and appear to be expensive. The NX Intelligent Networked Lighting Control system offers a simple, affordable way to 1) meet energy codes and 2) provide intuitive, energy-saving control of your lighting. The NX system is designed to provide code compliance right out of the box! The NX system is built on industry-standard technologies to give you confidence that it will simply work as you expect. Get full automatic or manual control, or anything in between. The system also integrates wired and wireless elements for a true hybrid distributed network lighting control solution with future-proof connectivity. The NX system utilizes distributed intelligence. The smarts are embedded in individual room controllers, creating the core of a simple yet totally scalable architecture. Set up a stand-alone room or space using one or more room controllers as a zone, which can be networked with other zones into large areas. You get total access to every control point from a single room to an entire campus. Distributed Control System: Is made up of many individual control elements spread throughout the building. Each having local intelligence and capable of autonomous operation without dependence on a central controller or server. Self-Configuration NX components are self-configuring. Simply plug devices such as digital wall switches, occupancy sensors, and daylight sensors into the NX Room Controller and they are auto-configured. It s really that simple! No complex set-up is required for default codecompliant operations. All device communication is over standard CAT5 cables which simplifies installation and eliminates wiring errors. 2 More advanced configuration of dimming and daylight functions within a room can be accomplished with the use of the optional Bluetooth radio and free smart phone app available for both Android and ios devices. All of these features add up to an efficient, trouble-free installation with from the ground convenience.

Energy Code Compliant Modern energy codes and regulations present a challenge to designers, installers and owners. Simple lighting control applications that were prevalent just a few years ago are no longer acceptable by current standards. Line voltage wall switches and simple occupancy sensors that were once state of the art are now all but obsolete. Many applications now mandate manual-on/automatic-off operation mode in the energy codes. Layering this with additional requirements for bi-level lighting, dimming, and daylight harvesting has created a need for a new class of room level lighting controls that are capable of meeting this complex sequence of operation for each building space without requiring complicated wiring, software, and commissioning. NX distributed intelligent controls provide a simple solution for all of this and more. Logic built into the room controller is designed to provide energy code compliance by default along with optimized performance. Bi-Level Lighting - The minimum, requires controls with two independent relays Dimming - Industry standard 0-10V controls allow compatibility with modern LED lighting Manual-on/Automatic-off - Referred to as vacancy mode rather than occupancy. Requires integration of low voltage wall switch with the occupancy sensor. Daylight Harvesting - Dimming electric lighting in response to available daylight. Must be coordinated with room occupancy and manual override. Energy Codes California Title 24 ASHRAE 90.1 IECC 3

NX Room Controller Room Controller The NX Room Controller is the core component of a completely scalable bottom up architecture. It s simple, perfect for stand-alone lighting control of any space, or building up to complete building systems. With one or two relays, with or without dimming, it meets bi-level or dimming requirements. Defaults to manual on mode. On/off switching, step-dimming and full-range dimming are all standard using the same daylight sensor. Use more than one room controller to provide additional load capacity for larger spaces. SmartPORT technology allows room devices such as switches, motion sensors and daylight sensors to self-configure for code-compliant default operation when they are connected. This RJ45 style connection allows room devices to plug into the Room Controller logic using CAT5 cables. Key Features: Digital SmartPORT technology provides auto-configuration of switches and sensors RJ45 connectivity eliminates field wiring errors and simplifies installation Integral push-buttons and LED indicators aid in installation and troubleshooting Compact housing provides up to two relays and two dimming channels Connect up to 8 NX Room Controllers for a total of 16 loads Installs in the plenum above the controlled area eliminating home run wiring Applications: Classrooms Personal Offices Open Office Spaces Libraries Cafeterias Reception Areas 1 3 NX OCCUPANCY SENSOR Monitors the occupancy of the room with dual sensor technology. Each load is configured in vacancy mode (manual on) and turns off automatically when vacant. 2 4 NX DAYLIGHT SENSOR Provides continuous dimming of the fixtures in response to the amount of natural light entering the room. Zone: A room or space served by one set of NX room devices, including at least one Room Controller and a bridge, associated by HubbNET with other zones within an Area. A room or space becomes a Zone on the network. 4 NX ROOM CONTROLLER Provides switching and 0-10V dimming control for two lighting loads. 5 NX DIGITAL SMART SWITCH Provides on and off control for two lighting zones. 6 PLUG LOAD CONTROLLER Automatically turns off nonessential equipment when the room is unoccupied.

Room Control Solution APP The NX Room Setup App takes over where self-configuration and manual configuration leave off. No need for software or a PC. The free downloadable smart phone app provides a simple, intuitive means to configure all sequence of operation requirements for individual rooms with from the ground convenience. The optional NXBTR Bluetooth Radio Module plugs into any SmartPORT automatically enabling wireless connection. Key App Functions: Manually control relays and dimmers Change switch station button types Configure loads for vacancy/auto on mode Set up daylight harvesting Configure dimming fade and trim settings Define preset scenes Set up room partition scenarios Configure occupied and unoccupied levels for dimmers Set power up conditions for loads Name rooms for network discovery 1 2 3 4 5 6 NX Room Controller - Used individually or in combinations, the room controller is the central component in the NX room control solution. It contains either one or two independently controlled relays. Dimming versions are available that provide one or two 0-10VDC control signal outputs for full range control of dimmable ballasts and LED drivers. The NX Room Controller features SmartPORT technology that provides auto-configuration of occupancy sensors and manual control switches. When devices are plugged into the port, the room controller automatically and intelligently responds to the devices to provide the most energy efficient operation. Wiring - All device communication is over standard CAT5 patch cables which simplifies installation and eliminates wiring errors. NX Ceiling and Wall Mount Vacancy / Occupancy Sensors - Sensors employ Dual Technology, Passive Infrared (PIR) and Ultrasonic (US) sensing technologies to control lighting based on occupancy. Each load can be individually set to operate either in occupancy (auto on) or vacancy (manual on) mode. These sensors employ HBA s patented IntelliDAPT technology to eliminate sensor commisioning and prevent false-offs. NX Daylight Sensor - Using a photodiode element, the daylight sensor continuously measures daylight levels and sends the information to the NX Room Controller which then performs daylight switching or dimming functionality based on the amount of natural light in the area. The system provides a self calibration feature to facilitate installation and can be configured to comply with specific requirements. NX Smart Switches - Provide manual control of the NX System with station choices of 1-6 buttons. Each button has an LED status indicator and can be configured to control individual loads or groups of loads. Up to eight stations can be connected in series to one port on a NX Room Controller. The attractive decorator style form factor allows ganging and use of standard decorator style wall plates. NX Plug Load Control Module - Specially designed to stand up to the rigors of controlling all kinds of plug-in loads, the dedicated NX Plug Load Control Module connects into a port and automatically tracks the occupancy state of the room and turns off non essential equipment when the room is unoccupied. Meets ASHRAE 90.1 requirements for control of plug loads out of the box. 5

NX Network Bridge Module & HubbNET Network Bridge NX room controllers can be connected to create networks. Applications benefit from interconnecting all of the building s controls on a network with centralized control and monitoring. Once connected, functions such as area-wide manual switching or dimming control is enabled. Switch stations can perform master control functions across all or some of the Zones in an Area. Schedules can also be downloaded into Room Controllers to perform distributed timebased functions. The NXHNB bridge module connects single rooms to a larger network through simple HubbNET connections. HubbNET Our unique HubbNET self-powered network connects Bridge modules, Panels, SmartPORT modules and other accessory components to the Area Controller for building-wide administration. Ethernet-based, high speed communication is handled on industry-standard CAT5 structured wiring. Accessory power gives HubbNET power over Ethernet (POE) capabilities similar to that widely used today for surveillance and CCTV systems. This self-powered aspect adds reliability and simplifies installation. It eliminates the need to supply external power to many NX components. NX Network Bridge Module Model NXHNB connects one NX Room Controller lighting control zone to the HubbNET network via SmartPORT to SmartPORT connection with CAT5 patch cable. CAT5 Patch Cables NX ROOM CONTROLLER Operates as a stand-alone distributed control zone, but can connect to the building wide NX HubbNET network through the Network Bridge Module. HubbNET Network 6

NX Panels Panels NX relay/dimming panels seamlessly integrate into the NX Distributed Control System allowing control functions for exterior or large interior spaces not suited for control by Room Controllers. NX panels can be configured with up to 48 relays and 32 dimming channels. Dimming is done by traditional 0-10V low voltage technology compatible with many types of lighting and most LED drivers. NX panels employ individually replicable, mechanically latching relays standard. Optional two pole relays allow control of multi pole circuits. NX panels are UL924 listed and can be used on emergency lighting circuits to control emergency lighting. UL924 Relay Module For emergency lighting, many applications use all or some of the general lighting within a space. Controlling this lighting requires special considerations. The unique design of our NXR-3LEM relay module automatically forces the SPST latching relay into the ON position whenever normal power feeding the panel is lost. This allows the NX panel to control emergency lighting circuits, guaranteeing that emergency lighting will be on during periods when normal power is lost. NX panels equipped with NXR-3LEM relays meet the requirements of NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code) Article 700. 7

NX Area Controller Area Controller The Area Controller provides the system user interface, and machine-to-machine interface allowing interaction with an entire NX Networked Control System. User interaction with the system is through a standard web browser. There is no software to install and no dependence on any particular PC platform. The graphical user interface can be accessed through a PC or laptop directly connected to the Area Controller. Or, the Area Controller can be connected to the owner s enterprise network allowing access to the NX system from any user workstation. One area controller can manage up to 64 areas each with 128 zones. For even greater integration, the Area Controller can connect the entire NX Distributed Control System directly to the Building Automation System without the need for gateways or interfaces.
