Panasonic KV-S5046H/S5076H Scanner Maintenance This guide covers: Cleaning Clearing Misfeeds Replacing rollers Important!!! Do NOT use canned air to clean scanner. The air can force dust behind the scan glass. This is a quick reference guide please see operator guide for more detailed instructions. For additional information or questions, please call 1-800-PANASYS (1-800-726-2797). Cleaning To Maintain Optimum Performance (Caution: Turn off scanner prior to cleaning. Also, be aware that conveyor area may be hot). 1. The scanner should be cleaned periodically approximately every 20,000 scans. a. A cleaning notification pop-up will appear when 20,000 scans has been reached. i. It may need cleaning more frequently, depending on the material being scanned. 1. For example, scanning coated paper, such as NCR, will require that the rollers be cleaned much more frequently to maintain optimum performance. 2. The frequency of the roller cleaning notification popup can be changed in the User Utility under Maintenance Setting. b. Also, clean the rollers if paper misfeeding or double-feeding occurs frequently. Be sure to turn off scanner before cleaning rollers! To access rollers and scan glasses for cleaning, open ADF door by pushing upwards on the ADF door release 1 and opening ADF door 2 Illustration 1 i. Roller cleaning kit (KV-SS03) is recommended. If you do not have the cleaning kit, you may use a microfiber cloth with a small amount of isopropyl alcohol or water. ii. Do Not use detergent, thinner or benzene as this can damage the rollers. iii. Cleaning kit (KV-SS03) can be purchased from your reseller. iv. Clean all rubber feed rollers with the cleaning paper. Direction to Wipe Rollers. 1
v. Reset the roller counter after cleaning them. 1. In the popup notification, Click on the User Utility button, then Maintenance Setting button. 2. Click on Clear Counter next to the clean roller counter to reset it to 0. Clear counter after cleaning rollers. User Utility can also be accessed from [All Programs] > [Panasonic] > [Scanner Tools] c. With a microfiber cloth, wipe off any dirt on the self-cleaning brushes and of the reference plates (rollers) and in illustration 2 below. Push and in the direction indicated by the arrow to rotate the reference plate (roller) on the ADF door side so that you can clean the brush. Repeat procedure on main unit side by rotating and in direction of arrows. Important: When done cleaning reference rollers, be sure that the reference rollers are positioned with the black side of roller facing out. Illustration 2 d. Clean the scan glasses if vertical streaks appear on scanned images. i. Use a dry, microfiber cloth to clean the glass. 2
Clearing Paper Misfeeds Caution: Conveyor area may be hot immediately after continuous scanning. 1. Torn paper, thin paper or paper that is creased on the top edge may cause a paper misfeed. If a paper misfeed occurs, remove the misfed sheet according to the following procedure: a. Remove all documents from the feed tray. b. Press the ADF door release 1 upwards and open the ADF door 2 as shown in illustration 3 below. Illustration 3 c. Remove the misfed document. i. If the document has stopped in the feed tray area, pull it backwards as shown below. Illustration 4 d. If document has stopped in the exit area, pull it forward as shown in the illustration 5 below. e. Close the ADF door until it clicks into place as shown in illustration 6 below. Roller Replacement When to replace the rollers: As a rough guideline, it is recommended to replace the paper feed roller module and double feed prevention roller after scanning 350,000 sheets of paper. (based on scanning normal paper depending on the type of paper and other factors, the actual lifetime for the rollers will differ). The scan count can be checked in the User Utility. A pop-up message will appear when it is time to replace the rollers. Roller Exchange Kit: KV-SS060 this kit includes the paper feed roller module and the double feed prevention roller. Roller Replacement Procedure: 1. Press and hold the power button for one second or more to turn off the unit s power. 2. Push the ADF door release 1 upwards, and open the ADF door 2 as shown in illustration 7. Illustration 7 3. Remove paper feed roller module: a. Move the lever 1 of the paper feed roller module downward to release it and then pull out the module towards you. See illustrations 8 and 9 below: Illustration 8 Illustration 9 4. Install the new paper feed roller module: a. With the lever 1 of the paper feed roller module lowered, insert both protrusions 2 into the grooves 3, and then slowly raise the lever in the direction indicated by the arrow until it clicks into place. See illustrations 10 and 11 below. 4
Illustration 10 Illustration 11 5. Remove the double feed prevention roller: a. Use the indents 1 to pull the double feed prevention roller cover towards you to open it. Illustration 12 b. While pulling the tab 1, in the direction indicated by the arrow, lift the double feed prevention roller 2 in the direction of the arrow. Then pull out the right shaft from the notch in the roller mount. See illustration 13: Illustration 13 6. Install the new double feed prevention roller: a. Align the shaft that is shaped as indicated by 1 with the notch in the roller mount 2, and then insert the shaft in the notch. Push the shaft on the opposite side 3until it clicks into place. b. After installing the roller, make sure that the shaft is inserted into the tab. If not, it may cause double feeding or a paper misfeed. Illustration 15 c. Push the double feed prevention roller cover until it clicks into place to close it. 7. Close the ADF door until it clicks into place. Illustration 16 Illustration 17 8. Press the power button to turn on the scanner. 9. The error notification will pop-up again. Click on Clear Counter. 10. Click on OK to reset counter. 6
