The liquids removed by he filer carridge coninuously drip from he filer carridge ino he boom of he housing, where hey are auomaically empied by an auodrain assembly (see Fig. 1 and Fig. 2). The air leaving he prefiler, herefore, is laden only wih waer vapor, which will be removed in he membrane module. The waer vapor in he compressed air is removed by he principle of selecive permeaion hrough a membrane (see Fig. 3). The membrane module consiss of bundles of hollow membrane fibers (see Fig. 4), each permeable only o waer vapor. As he compressed air passes hrough he cener of hese fibers, waer vapor permeaes hrough he walls of he fiber, and dry air exis from he oher end of he fiber. A small porion of he dry air (regeneraion flow) is redireced along he lengh of he membrane fiber o carry away he moisure-laden air which surrounds he membrane fibers.
